Just heard on the news that officials are searching all planes in the US for box cutters and other nasty things. Evidently something was found on some Southwest Flights. I hate this. :headache:

me too Steph. It sounds like someone did this to show a lapse in the security measures - we've had that happen over here too by journalists.

Thanks for the link to the report, please keep us posted.

Maybe not the best, most intelligent way to get a point over, but if it means security gets taken that little bit more seriously as a result, thats got to be a good thing.

Yes i agree, i feel sorry for the people who will be delayed etc, But its worth it in the long run,its really scary to think after 9/11 people can STILL get instruments like box cutters etc on planes!

The truth is that it doesn't matter what we do in the way of security. They will always be able to figure out a way to get things like box cutters on the planes. I think at this point, we all need to accept the fact that the passengers are the last line of defense. What happened on 9/11 vis a vis the hijackers and passengers will not happen again.

By accident this year I got through security at Gatwick with nail scissors in my handbag.

I forgot that they were they and didnt discover them until packing to come home.

The scary thing is I was picked out and double searched before boarding the plane at Gatwick, I guess security is lax at times.

Olaf's right, if a person/group is determined enough, there will always be a way found with which to evade security, no matter how tight.

All we can hope is that the powers that be, airlines, airport authorities and, just as importantly, we passengers, make it as difficult as possible, for those who may wish to attempt such a thing, to carry out an attack. To the extent that the likelihood of such incidents is reduced as much as is possible, but without air travel becoming such a trial that the kind of people who would do these things, win by discouraging/preventing people's right to travel without fear.

I look at it like this - the chances of myself or my loved ones being on a plane that coud be affected by something like a hijack is so small it really doesnt warrant a lot of thought. 'They' win if people start to worry about it every time they fly.

More planes are lost thru pilot error, mechanical failure or other reason, than have ever been lost thru hijackor terrorist action. I wouldn't stop flying because of any of those reasons, why stop for this ?

I really don't wan't to sound overly dramatic here, but thats just how I see it - life goes on, we just have to do all we reasonably can to make it go on as safely as possible.

Drudge is reporting that the box cutters were on the planes five weeks before they were found. Oi Vey.
