Am I being daft (probably :rotfl2:) but I can't remember how to do a search. I want to look for some trip reports on New York to get ideas for hotels.

Sorry - can help with trip reports

but have a look at the following 2 hotels - 30/30 (thirty thirty) and hotel giraffe - have stayed at the 30/30 - its fab and very near everything.
Was due to stay at the Hotel giraffe in April but have cancelled as going to Jamaica instead - am a (little bit) gutted as it looks REALLY REALLY nice! (A bit more expensive than we'd usually pay but looks like you get loads for your £££s!!)

If we go back next year Giraffe will be top of my wish list!

Happy hunting

I know Kevin Stringer has a trip with New York in it. He has his own web site so just do a google search for his name and I'm sure you'll find it.

Thanks for the tip Tony. :thumbsup2 I'm going to New York in April so I'll check Kevin's report out.

I'm in the process of writing my 2009 trippie (from October :rolleyes1) and hope to have the New York section posted very soon :goodvibes

I was looking for some the other day but when i put new york in the search, it said no results found :confused3

Cant help with trip report but can tell you I LOVED new york, it was amazing, I had wanted to go since I was 12, I finally made it or rather afforded it it for my 30th, it was worth every minute wait, go to grand central staion.

Thanks for the tips, Giraffe looks lovely and includes brekkie which is a bonus saves going looking for somewhere and sets you up for the day. Was leaning towards Times Square and Millenium Broadway but TBH put some dummy dates in and Giraffe wasn't much more. In your opinion do you think it would be central to the main tourist attractions. Never having been before its going to be the main attractions we will be going to. Thinking of making use of the hop on/off buses so would like to be near one of those routes. The amount of research I've yet to do seems  but then again Florida was like that at first.

Have a great time in Jamaica.

Try again now, its so easy withthe new search function now.
I just highlighted the words- New York trip report
a magnifying glass popped up, i clicked on that and loads of trip report came up :thumbsup2

Hi

The Giraffe is only a couple of blocks from the 30/30 and that was easily in walking distance of most places in midtown - it Times Square/Empire state building etc.

You would probably go to Central Park or down to the STaten Island Ferry on the tube, but we mostly walked everywhere. This also gives you a great flavour of New York too. We walked till maybe midnight and always felt safe (but same holiday rules apply here as everywhere else).

NY is THE MOST FABULOUS CITY ON THE PLANET - you'll love it. I've done it 3 times - 2 days, 6 days and 5 days and its my aim to do a 3 night trip every year (funds and DH willing:rotfl::rotfl:).

the trip adviser reviews (which we usually find pretty accurate, although you sometimes have to take the American reports with a pinch of salt) are really fab on this hotel - the Giraffe comes in at No8 - just compare the reviews/prices on the Giraffe to those rated 1-7 or 10-100 the Giraffe has much better reviews and is waaay better priced.
Granted its not the cheapest or the most central, but the cheese and wine reception will do it for me everytime!

I would use the tube system more than the buses (although the tourist ones are good). Depending on how long you are going for you can buy a weeks ticket for the price of 3 single days. The tubes are clean, safe and easy to use. Or just walk most places!

If you need anything else PM me and i'll reply.

Happy planning:banana:

Great advice there Katie, thanks. I'm going for the first time in April so I'll keep an eye on this thread! For anyone else who's going soon, there is another NY thread further down the page on the community board. :thumbsup2
