Sea World/Discovery Cove discounts for special needs child

Does anyone know if Sea World and Discovery Cove do a discount for special needs child, and can I purchase a ticket anywhere online or is it at the gate ?

Sea World does, but I believe you have to purchase the tickets at the park. The discount is 50% off of the ticket for the person with a disability plus one attendant.
We have not used this, but I'm sure someone will post who has.

I don't think Discovery Cove gives a discount, but don't know for sure.

I sent an email to Seaworld yesterday asking this question
they replied today: -

SeaWorld Orlando offers a discount for guests with disabilities and one support companion. The discount is intended for guests who are not able to reasonably enjoy our park. Persons who are eligible for this rate receive a 50% discount off the regular admission price. The current Regular admission price is $61.95 plus tax for adults and $49.95 plus tax for children ages 3-9. Please inform our Ticket seller at the time of your purchase and they will be happy to assist you. The discount is only available here at the park on the day of your visit.

It's a good deal as we are only at the park 2-3 hours at most. Though we have being going to Seaworld for many years without knowing this.

I don't know about Busch Gardens, somebody else may be able to answer that. But if not, someone on Disboards gave this promotion code yesterday.
If you go on http://commerce.4adventure.com/store/swt_promotions.asp then enter pepsi in the promotion code box, then select Busch Gardens you should get a ticket discount of 15% or 20%. You just print off the e ticket and take it with you.

We have also gotten the 50% discount at Busch gardens. And it's for any disabled person not just kids.

Does anyone know if Universal does this? Or, the Disney water parks? I can't do anything at either park and it kills me to pay full price, but my kids want to go

On an aside, I've been to Seaworld many times & never gotten this discount, I never knew it existed...

Disney does not; I'm reasonably certain Universal does not, either. As you now know (from this thread ), it's likely that visitors would NOT be told of this discount where it is offered. You'd be expected to have researched the information yourself.

Universal used to have on ,20% or so I think but not sure if they still do. And for any of them you need to ask for it.

Could someone explain why it is offered? Are the shows hard to see if you are in a wheelchair, or can you not reach the touch pools or see in many of the aquariums? I've been trying to talk DH into doing Sea World next trip, but he'll probably be permanently in a wheelchair by that time and discount or no, he probably would not want to go if he can't really see anything.

The official line if for those that can't fully enjoy the park. In reality you can see all the shows and reach in most of the pools. And of course there are the transfers at the rides.

Looking at it from another point of view (not a wheelchair disability). The park is very large and takes alot of energy to make it from show to show (on time). Being there with a mentally disabled child too big to sit in a stroller with some physical and other issues - it was not possible to even see all the shows because of the logistics of traveling the park with him. We have not returned in many years simply because of this reason. With missing the shows it wasn't worth the admission ticket. Had I known we may have gotten a break on the ticket I may have returned.

When Discovery Cove first opened our neighbors who had a severly autistic child went there and must have been given a discount, because it cost them much less than we would've paid when we priced it at their suggestion. They were told their son was the first autistic child they had swim with the dolphins, and they made a huge fuss over the whole family. When I told her how many hundreds of dollars it would've cost us to go, they just couldn't believe it.

BTW - We lived in TX, and there was some grant they got because of the child's severe disability that paid for a caregiver to stay with the child while they took their other kids on a vacation. It was so the family could get a break, because their child was so draining on all of them.

Just wondering how they did this since you can't buy tickets at the gate. As far as I know ALL tickets must be purchused before you even get there.

I received an e-mail from Discovery Cove stating that they don't do discounts for special needs adults or children.

Going to Florida tomorrow, staying at the Disney Boardwalk Villas.
