Sea Weed

In our last 11+ trips to the Bahamas over the last 6 years, I do not recall ever seeing seaweed. Maybe it depends on the time of year you go, we always go March and Sept/Oct. As far as the Caribbean and Gulf go, I have repeatedly seen bad seaweed in Florida, Galveston Texas, Belize and St. Kitts.

Ok. I just thought about it today. I remember seeing reports of it last year. But I have never seen any either and we were in Grand Cayman twice in 2018.

It was bad in St. Kitts in June...but I didn't see any on Antigua or CC.

There was the littlest bit at CC last week but nothing too noticeable.

I think it depends on time of year. We've been in May, December and January and haven't noticed any.

While there may be some variations due to tides and seasons the Sargassum has increased over the years. It was much more noticeable on our last Eastern Caribbean cruise than previous ones. The CC family beach is pretty protected and with the on island staff cleaning they keep things tidy for the guests.

Here is an short article about what is probably the new norm for sea weed in the Caribbean.

ETA - Most of us in Florida will recognize that flow from tropical/hurricane patterns so not a real surprising pattern.

I put it on the same level as kale...never touch the stuff.
