I haven't seen it posted but was wondering if DCL has a stash of bonine on the ship. If so where and how do you get it.

I think that I saw Dramamine in the ship's store.

We brought a bottle of ginger tablets and it helped to settle our DD's tummy. It was her first time and that initial bit of queasiness was easily taken care of. She hasn't needed anything since.

Thanks, I know some ships have a stash you can just pick up and thought I saw recently where someone alluded to that for DCL as well.

I can't remember where I heard this, but I thought I had heard that they have a supply of Bonine outside the door to the medical center.

We were on the 3/29/2003 "Mystery Cruise" Western last year. There were very rough seas and many people getting seasick. They had bonine sitting on the counter at guest services. They also were handing it out when preparing to go on shore excusions if your excursion involved taking another boat some where.

I did not see it available anywhere later in the week when things calmed down.

I had the misfortune of needing to go to the medical center this past 1/3 cruise andI can assure you that there is a supply of medication both inside and outside the medical center at no charge.

With most seasickness/motion sickness medication there are side effects. You should find something that works for you (you may need to involve your doctor) without putting you to sleep (or actually making you sick) long before leaving on your cruise so you have time to find what works. You don't want to be sick on the cruise, but you don't want to sleep it away either.

Check out your local drug store and look at Sea Bands - they worked well for my family and there were no drug side effects.

My husband gets m,otion sickness traveling in a car if he is not driving. He has always used Dramamine (sp) and usally gets drowsy. We talked with the doctor and he suggested we try Bonine. We tried it for three months prior to our cruise to be sure it would work and what the side effects would be.

It worked for us... Yeah! Since during our cruise last week we had a very rough night and day waves 8-13 feet and there were a few folks who were a little queasy. My husband felt great.

My advice like the above poster said Try it out prior to the cruise.

Hey there- first time cruisers here- I'm a bit nervous! I definately get motion sick- even in a car if I'm not driving & the ride is a teeny tiny bit bumpy-- we can't do body wars in WDW because it makes us SO sick!!! My bf & I usually take drammamine before we fly (and also before we did mission space in epcot!!-- we weren't missing out on that one!:D ) On the plane I pass out- usually before we're in the air- I was considering taking non-drowsy drammamine with us on the trip but not sure what it will be like to take it more than once- we usually take one for the plane & then not again untill 2 weeks later on the plane again! Now that I read this post I'm a little nervous...What is bonine? How does it work? Where can you get it? Any other suggestions? & how do you try it out before you leave? just take it to see how you react or do you need to do something that would normally make you sick to see if it really works? Thanks for all your help!

it is right next to the Dramamine. You can ask your pharmacy where it is located in thier store.
Since you say you get motion sick in a car try it instead of your dramamine one day of course do it on a day when you have nothing big or important scheduled after your drive just in case. Good luck

We were also on the Jan 3 cruise Thursday was really rough. This was my 4th Disney Cruise and my 5th cruise in total and Thursday had to be the worse day at sea ever!
I got sick on board and had to be confined to my cabin (diarrhea and nausea) Disney made it as comfortable for me as poss. Even hooked up a VCR in my cabin!

We were traveling with a group of nine and three were taking bonine/dramamine from the start. Even two of them got queazy. It made for fun trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night trying to walk without rocking into the wall. :)
Sorry to hear you had to stay in your cabin. I'm glad they hooked up a VCR so you wouldn't be too bored.

Dean: we just got off the Wonder yesterday, and our first day of the cruise was REALLY rough. Guest Services had free dramamine along with a sheet of instructions (can't give it to kids). If you go to a health food store, they do have some homeopathic remedies (patches behind the ear) and I heard that some folks on the Wonder bought bands that you put around your wrists (at one of the gift shops). I didn't see it as a huge problem if you stay busy, go outside as much as you can, and the rolling motion was wonderful to help lull you to sleep at night. Have a wondrous time...we did!!

IF YOU DECIDE ON TAKING BONNIE, SHOULD YOU START IT A COUPLE OF DAYS BEFORE THE CRUISE? OR DO YOU WAIT UNTIL YOU START TO FEEL SICK?

Generic Bonine (meclizine) is available without a prescription. One of the best tips I received before our cruise was to go to a pharmacy and ask them to order a large bottle of generic meclizine (they generally have to order it because it must be labeled the way that nonprescription meds are labeled). It cost me about $10.00 for at least 100 pills (it might have even been 500 given the size of the bottle). This is much cheaper than buying the small packages OTC at the drug store.

Thanks, I guess I was hoping they'd have the bonine that way like RCCL does. I'll likely do what I was thinking and Dr. P says, buy a generic bottle. Thanks.

DH has found Bonine to be the best thing. He gets sick when not driving - flying wastes an entire day because the Dramamine knocked him out and he had to sleep the rest of the day upon arrival. Now he takes Bonine and no sleepy head! Take a pill the day you depart (like lunchtime) and then every day when you get up and you shouldn't have any problems - don't wait until you feel queasy as it is too late.

What a great idea!!! Thanks!

FWIW, I looked at my bottle. It is 25 mg Meclizine HCL and was $10.83 (you may be able to even get it cheaper) for 100 tablets.
