Sea Sickness Threat

My ex-husband was like this. He read somewhere that it was classified as being a "super-taster" (I found a Wiki link) -- stuff like beer, dark chocolate, coffee are all too bitter and unpalatable for people who are this classification.

I'm more of a super-smeller. I can smell almost *everything*; ions, cigarettes, many perfumes and especially synthetic fragrances (in deodorant, cleaning products, cheap candles) are nauseating to me. I think my friends call it "dog nose", like what many women experience during pregnancy. But I have it always. LOL

And when I mean ions, I believe it is called geosmin. I can tell when someone has been outdoors from their smell. Not joking. Or when you turn a deionizer on, I can smell the odor it gives off.

I think I'm somewhat like you - a "super-smeller"...slight odour can make me sick. But it's always bad odour. I have a couple of facial creams and lotions that have a scent, but it doesn't seem to bother me. So, the highlighted part happens to me ALL the time. I don't know why no one else can smell this. My whole family makes fun of me...I asked them if they can smell it, and they say no....I have been calling it the "Sun Smell"...since I notice it much more when someone comes in and it's a sunny day...I have no idea why.

I guess I'm not a "super taster"...I don't find coffee or dark chocolate bitter at all...(I love dark chocolate more than regular chocolate - which I find very very sweet).

Bonine once a day starting a full day before cruise. And I wear sea bands the entire cruise. Never had any issues even when Seas are rough since I started that combo.

Yep that is me with my super smeller and it is horrible. It is called Hyperosmia and there is nothing they can do about it. My dad has it so I know that it is hereditary and so far it is getting worse and worse as I get older. Any kind of strong perfume/cologne and especially cigarette smoke gives me an instant horrible headache. I also noticed a new symptom at work last week when someone came in wearing strong cologne, my throat started to feel like it was swelling up. Super scary stuff. If this gets to the point of where it is really bad do you think we can ask airlines to tell people not to wear perfume on the flight like they ban peanut butter? Just as a public service announcement, to those of you reading this, please do not wear any perfumes on a airplane, it really is torture for some of us. Thank you.

I know this is off topic, but I just want to thank you for sharing. I don't know anyone like this and I have always assumed I'm overreacting to certain odours. I wasn't like this when I was younger. And although my symptoms are not as severe, I can definitely empathize. And I believe these are the causes of my migraines.

What are your preferred source of ginger? I have done pills from from Wal-Mart but they were huge. I want to have something DD7 will take. Does anyone make a chewable? Or smaller capsules?

It is a real thing and unfortunately something that most people do not understand and so they have no idea how horrible it is for those of us who suffer from it. It is hard for people to comprehend that one whiff of certain odors and your head starts to instantly pound. For me it also causes my nose to get plugged and my throat to get scratchy. I hope us talking about it here brings a little bit of awareness to at least those on this forum. Just seeing the responses, it seems more people suffer from it then we really know but do not talk about it. It is horrible when friends and family do not understand the severity of it.

Twinings makes a ginger lemon tea that might work. They even carry it on the cruise.

Dramamine makes ginger capsules ("Dramamine® Non-Drowsy Naturals": https://www.dramamine.com/motion-si...wsy-naturals-ginger-for-motion-sickness-pills ) .

No taste and I find I don't end up with, lets call them ginger burps, like I do with liquigel ginger supplements like the Canadian Gravol ginger liquigels.

To an earlier post- never wait until, you start to feel nauseated. By then, it’s too late. If you are prone, take it before you leave and take it regularly whether you feel sick or not.

This is very true for my motion sickness prone DD. VERY.
