Sea sickness - more in the back or front of the boat?

We are staying in the aft, room 978 or something like that. Where will we feel more motion? My son gets car sick easily so I'm nervous...

We have stayed high, low, front, back and mid and haven not felt a noticeable difference in movement...well...in rough seas possibly more felt forward but I think people feel movement differently.

We were just on the 5/4 Eastern and stayed Deck 7 aft. I felt 2 different types of motions during our cruise - swaying and vibration.

One night the seas were really choppy and the swaying motion was felt everywhere. It was just as bad in the WDT as it was in our stateroom. I don't think stateroom location would have mattered at all in that situation. I have never been seasick in my life, but had to go to Guest Services to get Bonine that night.

One night when we were going close to max speed (to get from St. Thomas to Castaway Cay), the vibration in our stateroom was horrible. I went to lay on the loungers on Deck 4, and felt nothing.

The swaying motion was due more to sea conditions which were out of our control. The vibration was due more to stateroom location which was within our control. However, the vibration didn't give me the same sensation as the swaying motion did. It was annoying (and luckily it only lasted one night and it just happened at high speed), but it did not make me nauseous.

Which cruise are you doing? If it's a Bahamian, the ship will most likely not have to travel near top speed to reach the next port, so the vibration probably wouldn't be a problem.

Aft is worse for me, especially in the MDRs.

Oh gosh. I plan to get the patch before we go, for myself, and of course bonine or something for my kids.

Has anyone used the patch with success?

DH and I usually try for mid deck, and I was worried about seasickness when we ended up aft after an upgrade. But I didn't feel any noticeable difference while the ship was in motion. We did feel more vibration while docking at CC, but it only lasted a minute or two. I wouldn't worry.

How about buying some Seabands to wear on your wrists or eating ginger? Worth trying before taking any medication :thumbsup2

We have 4 cruises under our belt, my daughter and I are expecially motion sensitive (car, air, small boat, rollar coaster....). We have always tried to be low and mid shift, but on our last caribbean cruise we were midshift and deck 7. We only felt the motion occasionally and it was not bad, so do not worry.

Depending on the age of your son, I would give your son bonnine as you board the ship to stay ahead. I prefer the bonine for me to the patch, but it is personal preference.

I also found that because my kids were having so much fun, they did not think about being seasick.

Have fun!

on our magic cruise I felt more motion on our outside cabin, deck 2 than I have when we were on a higher deck. I just think it depends if you are prone to it. I would be safe and start taking bonine/dramamine 24 hours before boarding.

We just came off the dream 3 weeks ago and my husband has terrible motion sickness. I chose deck 7 mid ship and with the patch he was fine. I didn't feel much motion at all in our room. The first night at dinner though was a different story. When we were leaving dinner the ship was rocking so much people were losing their footing and bumping into each other !

I am always pro natural whenever possible so I will definitely be trying these with my 3 yr old but with me and my older son... I know we will need something stronger, which sucks.

Oh my goodness. ..my son will freak out. Haha. I will have to start the patch the day before. I can't even look at my phone in the car for more than a few minutes (while in the passenger) without feeling sick.

Thanks for all of the advice!

Oh my, I hope I didn't freak you out, not my intention. Let me give you our back story, as you know, my Hubby suffers from motion sickness ( quite severe btw) and he had ZERO interest in going on a cruise. I have always wanted to go on a cruise ( i love the water and have no issues with motion) and this year is my 40th birthday so he caved and agreed to go for my sake. I researched the best spot on the ship for motion sickness, splurged and got the verandah room so he could get fresh air if needed. I kept telling him he would be fine and that i had heard those large ships don't move, so then imagine my surprise when the first evening we are being tossed around at dinner. Anyway,it was only that first evening and the rest of the cruise was wonderful. My husband wasn't sick at all (even on the rocky night) and HE prebooked a 7 night cruise on the fantasy. He did say he wouldn't cruise without the patch. I'm not sure how old your son is and if the patch is recommended for children. My husband has had good luck with sea bands in the car and in small boats.

I have stayed all the way forward, one room front very front of boat, all the way aft, one room from back of boat, and directly at mid ship. Mid ship is best, but if not that I would go with aft. My forward room cruise I didn't get sick but my mom did. It was because at forward, in choppy seas, and traveling fast, the ship seems to jump the waves more, more of a up, then dropping sensation, plus we were on the 10 deck. Aft should be fine, but you might have a lot of engine noise. I might sound crazy but I love the side to side rocking of the boat. I lay in the bed its so relaxing. Its the up and down that could make me sick.
