Just wondering whether anyone has been really bothered by sea lice in June/July, should I order some sea safe before we go? How big a bottle for a beach loving family of 4?

I've been wondering the same thing about May. I've read the above post on Sea Lice, but I wondered how many really get infected by it at Castaway Cay. That will be the only time that we get in the water and we probably won't be in it more than 1 or 2 hours for the entire day. I was just wondering if it is really that prevalent at Castaway Cay. I hate the thought of going through the whole thing of ordering Sea Safe and trying to spread a glue like substance on my body for an hour or so. But if it is really that bad I'll do it.

Safe Sea is just like applying suntan lotion so it is not that bothersome. We have used
it w/ an SPF of 30. Out of the 5 of us only 2 were attacked by the pesky things in the last few years. If you don't use it be sure to shower off good once you get out of the water. Especially the area where your swim suit ends. Think of them as the chiggers of the sea. You do know what chiggers are don't you?
:p

Hilarious Buckaroo's Dad!!!! I was going to post the same thing.

LOL....Buckaroo's dad

That was my first thought too.

Buckaroos Dad- Probably not something I could give you over the internet anyway. LOL!

Eva, we've been on Disney Magic two times -- both in May. Never had a problem with Sea Lice. HTH

We just returned from the 3/8-3/15 Eastern cruise. I don't know if we have sea lice, but we definitely have itchy bumps here and there. I think we got them from stirring up the turtle grass on Castaway Cay... just like the post said.

Of course, we're from Minnesota and are very accustomed to mosquito bites, so it didn't even occur to me until this morning that all this itching may be due to sea lice. All three of us who went snorkeling ended up with little red itchy bumps... not rashy... just here and there... like tiny mosquito bites.

Anyway, it's no big deal. I understand they go away in about 7 days, so I'm not too concerned.

Have fun on your cruise!

I see that our families will be cruising together this summer. We went on the 4 day last year and I had never even heard of sea lice. My teenage son did come back from Castaway cay with what appeared to be a few mosquito bites. He complained of being itchy while sitting at the edge of the water. The bites were around his neck and upper back where his t-shirt ended. I don't even know if this is where sea lice woulb bite you! Any one out there know? He went into the water and felt better. No big deal really. Perhaps we were lucky. How many people are going with you. We have a daughte 14 and son 20.

thedisneymom- how great to hear from someone going on our cruise! I thought we were going alone. Actually Stewblue is going at the same time I think. Too bad our kids aren't more the same age, mine are DD4 & DS10. For a cruise I think 14 & 20 might be easier! Or maybe not! LOL Other than the kids, just me and DH, 36 & 46. I am so excited already! I think I read that the sea lice do bite around the edge of garments, elastic etc.

Yes, its much easier with older kids. My daughter is a young 14. In fact, they let her into the lab last year. Their were many 13 and 14 yr olds there. She is a junior counselor for the little kids at a program during the summer. I'm sure she will see your daughter is comfortable in the lab. My son was hilarious on the 4 day last year. He hung out in the teen club even though he was older. There was even a 20 yr old there. We are having shirts made for the first day. Look for us at the terminal and perhaps we can set up a meet.:bounce:

We were at castaway cay in June of 1999 and my brother in law sat down on one the grassy areas to clean out his mask and a little while later his behind started burning and we didn't have the slightest idea what it was. Needless to say it didn't take him too long to decide to go back to the ship to see the doc. He told him it was sea lice and he gave him some cream for his bottom. It was funny then and it's still funny when we think of him squirmishing to the ship. It was our first cruise and we are going again this June and can hardly wait--this time we know about those sea bugs!!!:bounce: :bounce:

It was still a wonderful time!!!!
