SDMT - Total Disappointment

We all enjoyed it and got to ride multiple times- with FP, early ADR at BOG and late nights. My favorite part was my kids reaction to it- they are 7 and 9 and also ride the bigger coasters. I just asked my DH who is 6' 2" what he thought of the seats. He said it was a bit snug but ok.

I had heard people on here saying it was a disappointment but i liked it. It felt so smooth compared to big thunder and space.

I love me some Dopey.

I think it also helped that i got there at rope drop and rode it straight away. I wouldnt wait more than 15 -20 minutes for it, but that is the same for any other ride.

It a long walk though to get to the front though! Obviously Disney was expecting big crowds so they built a very long queue area.

We waited in line for 50 minutes on an evening magic hours night as we couldn't get fast passes. It was a total and complete disappointment. It was over before I knew it and I couldn't remember anything about it. Will not bother again.

What is Disney thinking? Really -- that is the central new ride of New Fantasyland?

They do that while Universal opens Gringott's Bank?

Gee, I don't spend thousands to visit Disney with low expectations. I expect them to wow me -- Universal certainly does these days. I don't mean it has to be a thrill ride -- but it was nothing. We went afterwards and rode Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Seems like a similar ride but much better.

We spent 2 days at Disney and eight at Universal in August. Guess why? All the excitement and creativity are there.

While I enjoyed it, I was certainly disappointed, perhaps just from all the hype and the wait time. Hopefully after a few years it will be a fun ride to hop on a couple times in a row. =D

I don't know, it's a kiddie coaster. Yes adults ride it, but like with anything in Fantasyland, you take it with a grain of salt. I don't get off of Pooh, Dumbo or Little Mermaid thinking that was an amazing ride, it's fun for the minute, minute and half I'm on it. If the kids are disappointed then there is a problem. I really don't think Disney thought adults were going to be "impressed" with a kid's ride.

well personally i do get off off certain fantasyland "kiddie rides" thinkint that was an amazing ride.
i absolutely love under the sea and could ride it several times in a day.
and that was the same feeling i had for snow white's scary adventures. i just think they missed the mark with 7DMT. i'd rather have snow white back.

My family and I love it. We have ridden it many times, each time with no wait for various reasons, so that might have something to do with it.

If the ride were longer, waits might be longer, too.

My favorite part is listening to my girls squeal in delight as they ride it. I am really glad it is for younger children and for us as a family, it has just the right amount of thrill. I also love how smooth it is. Jerky coasters leave me feeling sore when I get off (yes, I know, I am getting old).

One of my favorite things about Disney- especially MK- is that families can enjoy just about every attraction together. There are not a lot of theme parks where that is the case.

Ok, so different strokes for different folks. I could see that, I guess it's the old, you can't please everybody. I think 7DMT is something different in a land full of dark rides and that it's a welcomed change. I think some people are comparing apples to oranges, no it's not Big Thunder it never claimed to be or is trying to be, it's not Gringott's. I guess, when people say disappointed, it reads to me that they didn't understand what they were walking on to, and expected it to be different.

The original plans for the new Fantasyland did not include the SDMT,it was supposed to be more princess meet and greets, eventually some smart person realized other people besides girls 5-10 years old visit MK.This is why it opened later as plans changed.I knew going in it wasn't going to be a thrill ride and at least it wasnt another overhyped princess meet so I wasn't too disappointed, its a cute ride but nothing amazing, the only thing that was a bit of a let down was when they mentioned the cars would swing side to side which doesn't really happen.

Obviously Universal is on the upswing building amazing rides and lands at a very rapid pace while Disney stalls and takes 10+ years to build attractions that are not up to par,but this is old news. They're only recently getting hints that their business plan may take a hit due to Universal if they don't step up and get serious about adding new attractions,if these additions don't wow the general public they're obviously going to have issues as Universal expands with a new water park and rumors of a new theme park giving people reasons to lengthen their Universal stays.

Too many people just had unrealistic expectations. How could anyone think they'd build a super awesome ride on such a small plot of land in Fantasyland?

It turned out to be exactly what was promised. A cute family type coaster. It was never meant to be compared to Everest or the Harry Potter rides at Universal.

When it first opened, I admit the TV ads were very misleading. They REALLY exaggerated the speed of the ride in the commercials, showing it zipping around the curves and down the hills. So Disney does have some blame in raising expectations.

Worth the hassle trying to get a FP+ for it? No. Worth a 50 minute standby wait? No. But it's a nice ride I'd be willing to wait 20 minutes for, like right before closing time.

Yep-- Disney has been riding on past glories and even delaying maintenance. it seems like Avatar land has been a "coming attraction" for years. Star Wars land -- same thing.

I had not heard about a possible new park at Universal. now that is exciting news if true!! I have been so impressed with Universal's Harry Potter lands -- and I have never read the books and I slept through all the movies. But I think The Harry Potter lands are great fun -- creative, inventive and very enjoyable.

I agree with the OP, we found it to be a let down the first time we rode last year. Just too short and no big drops. We didn't even try for a FP+ there for our upcoming trip. I'll stick with Big Thunder Mountain, which feels like they fly people through even the standby line!

They definitely swing if you make them. My daughter and I love doing that.

I thought the sensation of it was excellent. Very smooth, no strain on neck or back. I would love it if the track were longer.

It bothers me that I can't recall anything about the animatronics inside the mine. My mind is entirely blank on it, even when I watched the YouTube video to try to jog my memory. I do recall the cottage scene toward the end. It's odd for me to forget such a substantial portion of it since I have sharp long-term memory (and horrendous short-term memory, heh). It does make me wonder just how brief the "show" part of it is. I apparently didn't process it at all. Maybe something distracted me.

Wow, I was under the impression that this was a BTMRR with small bits of Splash tossed in. Is it really closer to a Goofy's Barnstormer coaster?
