SDMT Soft Opening Lookout Post

We just left WDW yesterday and they did CMs on Friday all day. We went Sunday and it was not running at all.

People riding now but cars not full. Must be CMs. I see no entrance that is open even to ask. Or I'm not looking carefully.

The entrance is right across from the Pooh ride. There is stroller parking just to the right of the SDMT entrance. You will definitely see CMs camped out at the entrance to the mine train, though you will have to take what they say with a grain of salt. ;)

I asked today and they said no soft openings today but they did not know about Friday. Fingers crossed.

I think given the "front and center" location of the ride, soft openings will be hard to do. If they offered a soft opening, it will be very obvious -unlike the when New Fantasyland soft opened. It was behind a wall and most people didn't know it was going on. They could control when it was open and how many went in. With the coaster, a soft opening would be hard if not impossible to control.

I recently saw an snap of an invite for DisneyDestinations employees to visit for a preview May 24 - 27th.

Just listening to the Unofficial Guide's Disney Dish podcast of 7DMT and at the very end Jim Hill says "I'm gonna get in trouble with Disney for saying this...they will...they are going to try and have the attraction open for the guests during that party (24 hours). That's sort of the special sauce for that event at the kingdom."

Jim is a pretty reliable source with inside info so barring any problems, I expect it to be open. I was pretty happy to hear that considering I will be there all day. ::yes::

No, not really. He's interesting to listen to, but I would not categorize his info as reliable. I will be happy to be wrong in this case for your sake. :goodvibes

I highly doubt it will be open for the 24 hour event.

Kind of unfair to the people going for "opening day" if they were to have it open for a 24 hour event. So I highly doubt they would do that. Being this close to the opening day, I don't see a soft opening for anyone other than employees

Out of curiosity, do you think he's flat out lying and has no insider info or his info is incorrect?

I think he makes assumptions based on inside info that turns out incorrect or becomes out of date based on changing inside info. I do not ever believe he is "flat out lying".

A recent example from last year. He said unequivocally WDW would announce either SW Land or CarsLand (I forget which) for DHS at D23. A few weeks later, D23 passed without a whisper.

Very possible, but I'm trusting Jim on this. I bet it opens for part of the party.

I do remember that and I was pretty surprised that he made that claim. Oh well...I hope he's right this time! :)

There is an 82.6% chance you will be wrong.;)

They have never run this new ride for 24 hours straight....ever. Are they really going to risk trying that right off the bat? Uhhhh....no. I can just hear the disappointment wreaking once it breaks down during the party.

Nada...

I highly doubt it runs 24 hours, nor do I think they want it to. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't open, but he's a more reliable source than any I've heard yet.

I agree. I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that one of my CM friends (I know, I know) implied to me the potential bad press that would gush if Disney opened 7DMT at the media event a couple weeks ago and then it failed during the 24-hour day. It's yet to flex its muscle for even a regular day. He suggested the May 28 open was to clear the 24-hour day for that reason. It makes quite a bit of sense.

I agree! It seems that he makes comments and "predictions" based upon his "inside" contacts and then builds a blog around it. I have read MANY things he wrote about that never happened..... including the return of the Pirate and Princess Party, the Yeti being fixed and an announcement for Pixie Hollow that was supposed to open at the beginning of 2014.
