SDFP: CHANGES COMING!! Beware the 7th of June?!

I read the first post and didn't see this come up anywhere:

Is there a market for trading old cloned bands on this board or elsewhere?

I have four MBs from a trip last year and we are going in January 2018 for marathon weekend. I don't have tickets yet (will be buying Canadian discounted tickets in May) but the room reservation is already tied to MDE and our existing profiles. It seems like overkill to cancel the reservation and set up a second MDE account to rebook, etc.

But I would be interested in trading our old MagicBands with someone for their old, cloned bands, to have the option of SDFP without the expense of buying a second set. Are people doing that?

I haven't seen it being discussed. Perhaps it happens via PM. You might be on to something. Would have to make sure your park days don't overlap with whomever you've traded with.

The DISboard WebMasters have permitted this thread to run as is for the last 3 years. Trading MBs has never been a topic discussed within this SDFP thread.

Thanks! :)

It's not a good idea, unfortunately. You'd be giving a stranger a key to your resort room. They would also have access to your credit card - PINS are not unhackable. Too much risk. Only trade or share with people you know in real life.

I found this thread last week after reading a trip report and this gold mine was mentioned. Great info and very funny! I'm afraid I've already messed up my chances. Sorry to not totally get it--trying to read and reread the rules and posts and I'm getting more confused. Please help me :scared: Here's my scenario:

Going in July. Only going to Epcot for one day. There will be 4 adults. I found two cards in a memory box (with Mickey circle). They were 4 day hoppers. They are linked to my MDE account. Magic bands are on their way bc this will be a resort stay (I've never had them before). I will be pre buying the one day tickets and am planning to add to my mde so I can get the 60 day fp. Our 2 friends are joining dh and I. They have already purchased and linked their room and tickets and I will be managing all our fps.

Question 1 - will these cards work and can I just use them at kiosks (not on mde) since it's only 1 day and manageable?
Question 2 - buying used bands from EBay -ads say 'sold as souvenirs, never used and have been deactivated' with different names on them will these works?
Please help me figure if I can use either of these items. Thank you!!!!!

The top of the first page of the thread will have warned you not to read the other posts as they'll confuse you. Everything you need is there on the first page. You can use the Control f keys on your keyboard to skip to your questions.

For someone wanting to have a second MDE and not adding phantoms to their original MDE, how do you link a new magic band to each of the guests on the second MDE? A friend is trying to do this and I couldn't figure out the answer from the first post. She has set up a second account and purchased bands from the Disney store.

I just placed an order for some "deactivated" Magic Bands on ebay (Four for $10 + free shipping). Even if they don't work in the grand scheme of things the $2.50/band is a drop in the bucket compared to the money I'll be dropping on my Disney trip. I could also always sell them on ebay myself and probably only be out a few dollars for shipping. If I can save a few minutes not standing in line this will easily be worth it. It might even be worth buying the activate later version for $10-12 each as a back up but I thought I'd try this out first. I saw on the previous page someone was going to try to use a deactivated band, but I haven't heard an update yet!

@ScrapYap - okay, despite my two broken toes, I managed to hobble around the MK for 6 hours today. Tested this quickly and made a SDFP with a band I confirmed as deactivated in my MDE. No problem at the kiosk (and it still linked to my account) and no problem at the ride. Deactivating a band doesn't do anything, at least as far as accessing FPP's (whether regular or SDFP) is concerned.

Hope your toes are better soon!
Does this mean that a deactivated MB can't be used as SDFP if it is a clone to the active MBs in the same profile account? So, deactivating a cloned MB can't make that MB SDFP usable, right? I just want to make sure I understand the situation with deactivated MB. Thanks again for all your wonderful help! Get well soon!!

Weird question - can I get two SDFPs at park 2 if I have a "not yet used" SDFP for park 1?

Example: I go to HS at 9am and get a SDFP for 1pm, then I quickly park hop to MK and get two SDFPs for use at night. Will the system balk because I have a FP at HS that I have not used yet?

Deactivated bands still work for SDFP.

A clone will still be a clone, deactivated or not.

Just want to thank ScrapYap for all the information. Returned yesterday after 13 nights at Disney. Bought 3 "unlinked" MDE bands at Earport at MCO when we arrived from UK. Bought them all yellow so as not to confuse them with our real MBs. Told the sever they were a present for someone so she just activated them without using any of our MDE details, think she called it "Link it Later". When we got to hotel I just linked them to my "dummy" MDE account.
Used them with great success during holiday.
At MK we went into City Hall and used the kiosks on the right hand side of the entrance as we came into the park. Ended up with at least 6 FP each day. Made a real difference to our holiday.
The hardest part was remembering which colour band to wear that related to each set of bookings. I also tried to use them by mistake to pay for food!!!
Thanks again ScrapYap.

Deactivated MBs should work for SDFP but you have to make sure they are not all from the same profile. Otherwise they would be clones of one another.

Just got back from 5 days at the park and SDFP worked like a charm...truly a game changer for managing crowded weeks at Disney.

4/9: Got a Living with the Land in the AM, then PotC and Aladdin's Carpets in the afternoon
4/10: HS - didn't really end up using or needing any (skipped RnRC)
4/11: TTBaB, Dinosaur
4/13 (I think I was the first person at City Hall after 7 am): Got Tomorrowland Speedway, Small World & Haunted Mansion
4/14: Nothing good available at Epcot, but was able to get Illuminations, which was nice

Thanks a ton to ScrapYap, Hiro and everyone else on the DIS for helping out with making it an amazing trip!

I guess I could always buy another two bands when at Disney and I'd be no worse off (I only need three bands total for my family). I know the first post mentions the risk of buying bands from eBay, but for the price I thought it was a pretty minimal risk. It would be kind of annoying if only one worked or if none of them worked, but the item description mentioned the items were unused and that there are names on the inside of the band. This leads me to believe they were probably linked at some point to a family, perhaps someone doing a split stay. These could be pretty nice since I could lend them out to friends/family who want to try this technique out without worrying about the vacation package stored on my bands!

Sounds as though they'll work independently. Let us know!

No, at least as of 5/15 when I tried it
It works similar to prebooked fp where it tells you that you have to use, cancel or wait till it expires.
