SDFP: CHANGES COMING!! Beware the 7th of June?!

I'm ashamed to even ask because I did read the first page! Btw, love your sense of humor, @ScrapYap! When reading this part, I think my situation will work:

But then I read this and I'm a little confused again:

My situation is that one of my sons and I are going to WDW next month. My DH and my other DS are NOT going. Can I take one of their old bands each to use for SDFP or are they part of the "hive" and considered a clone because I manage them on MDE?
As they are not "clones" of the primary bands you and your DS are using, you will be able to use your DH's and other DS' bands for SDFP.

If we buy an extra set of bands (I am traveling with 9 people and we have a package with linked tickets and magic bands on the way), can I use the extra set to get same day fast passes?

also, if I link them to a different account, can I make SDFP for all of us at one time or do they have to be made one at a time on the kiosk?

Also, if the new bands are not linked to tickets, can they be used for SDFP? My tickets will be linked to the bands coming with our package.

I think I know the answers to these questions from reading page 1, I just want to make sure I understand. Thanks so much for you help!!

Thanks! That's what I was thinking/hoping. I just wasn't 100% positive since they're linked to my MDE (even though they're different people with different MBs).

You tell us what you think the answers are, and we'll correct you if you're wrong! :)

My thoughts are Yes -- we can buy the extra bands and link them to a different brand new account using our middle names and I KNOW the SDFP can only be made at a kiosk. I also think the bands can be used for the SDFP if not linked to tickets but they must be linked to an MDE but not 100% sure.

Also Not 100% sure about making them all at one time if they are in one account or if I need to make them individually. Your answer?

Extra bands must be linked to MDE profiles or they won't work at kiosks.

The extra bands won't be linked to tickets - because your primary bands are the ones linked to tickets. So all SDFP are made on bands without tickets. If you have tickets, you're prebooking - not visiting kiosks. So that's a whole different thing.

For SDFP, you have to tap each band, one after another, at the kiosk. You can group them all at the kiosk so you can choose the same SDFP for the group. Marcie has photos of the kiosk screens showing this at the beginning of the thread.

All under one MDE account right? or do they all need separate accounts?

My plan is to order 9 bands for the extra set and link them all to one (different) account with our middle names. Then I will tap each one at the kiosk.

You'll link the nine bands to nine profiles on the same MDE. You could link them to the same MDE as your primary profiles. Or link them to a new and different account. With a large group, I personally prefer the extra set separated on a different account. But it's personal preference. You can read some of the pros and cons to each choice in the first post of the thread.

Forgive me if this has been answered already, but if I have multiple MBs for other individuals who have traveled with us through the years (already linked to my MDE since they stayed with us), is it possible to make a new MDE, create new profiles for each of the peopleon the new MDE, unlink the bands from my primary MDE and then linik the bands to the new MDE?

No. Details in the first post. :)

A little off-topic, but when you tap your MB at a kiosk, does it automatically link to the MDE account or does it ask for a password? If no password is required and you happened to lose your MB (fell of your wrist, out of your purse, left it on a table, etc.), couldn't anyone have access to your account via the kiosk?

Dang. I saw that on the first post but got confused by this bolded language at the top of that post:

Oct 2016 - a change in usage of the kiosks. SDFP still works, but when you tap a band or card for SDFP, the screen will now display the FP which were prebooked to the primary profile on the MDE (as though you had just tapped your primary band or card).

To avoid this extra step, remove the profiles of the friends from whom you are borrowing bands (if you are borrowing bands!). If all your bands are on profiles that you are managing, you can't remove those profiles - unless you painstakingly set up new individual MDEs for your phantoms.

Either way, it's not actually a problem. You just tap the screen to uncheck the name of the primary profile, then you'll proceed to book SDFP as usual. (This is going to be faster than setting up separate MDEs for each phantom.) Ask a CM for help unchecking the primary profile if you need assistance - they are there to help.

The second quoted paragraph talks about not being able to remove profiles unless you painstakingly set up new individual MDEs for the phantoms. I'm glad to go through the painstaking work between now and my next trip, as getting SDFPs was a complete fail for me this time. Is that still possible? Is that different from unlinking? (Please forgive my likely misuse of terms like unlinking, etc.)

With the changes that came into effect in October, I couldn't succeed at getting more than one SDFP at a time, for just one phantom at a time. Maybe that's the way it works now. Last trip, I was able to scan several bands in succession and then make SDFPs for the group of them (one attraction at a time). This time, I was able to uncheck the box for me (and keep the check for the one phantom) after I selected an attraction and time, but I had to do it 3 times for each band to get 3 SDFPs, and then start the process over with the next phantom MB.

I'm just wondering/thinking/hoping that if I could get the extra people from my prior trips (now using their bands as phantoms) off my MDE account, I might be more successful at getting SDFPs for multiple bands at the same time, since the system seemed to be thrown off my the fact that I popped up and already had 2 FP+s of my own reserved.

I wish I had gotten a CM to help me, but it was so crowded that afternoon and I didn't see any that were available.

Sorry for the long-winded post. I promise that I have read the first page multiple times. :) Just trying to figure out what I may have done wrong this trip and how I may improve things for the next go-round.

Thanks!

They would only have access to FPs that were booked as well as see the names of the guests.

It sounds as though it might be worth your while to try to get your phantoms off your MDE. (Though Marcie proves that you can efficiently use a kiosk for SDFP with all profiles on one MDE.)

So that bolded paragraph. I can see that it may be confusing and will update it. The situation is this: you can't remove any profile on your MDE if there are bands or tickets associated with it -- UNLESS that profile is for a person who has an MDE of their own. This might change. But at the moment, you'll get an error message if you attempt to remove a friend you manage who has "entitlements." But you can remove a friend with entitlements who has their own MDE.

So you'll need to set up a new MDE for each phantom - with a different email address for each one. You may need to experiment - the unfriending function can be glitchy.
- Set up the first new MDE. Be sure the phantom name on the new MDE is the same as that phantom appears on your primary MDE.
- Then sign out of the new phantom MDE and sign into the primary MDE to issue a friend invitation from the primary MDE to the person on your friend list for whom you just set up the new MDE. (You'll be asked to enter the email address.) (Maybe use two different browsers to prevent complications.)
- Now sign out of your primary MDE! Sign into your phantom MDE. Check the email of the phantom and following the link, accept the friend invitation.
- Finally sign out of your phantom MDE and back into your primary MDE. The primary MDE should now allow you to remove that friend. (Because you no longer manage the friend - they have their own MDE.)

As I said, arduous. But it will probably be easier with each one you do. System is glitchy today. Try again tomorrow if you have troubles.

Let us know how it goes. :) Good luck!

Thanks, Karrie! I just did the first one and it went well. It will definitely take some time since there are so many steps, but I think it's likely the right plan for me.

Thanks so much for working so hard on this thread!! :)

please forgive me if this has been covered but has anyone tried to use their dummy band to get any of their 3 FPs in different parks?
for example:
Start in AK and use dummy band for FP for Everest (and don't get a 2nd or 3rd FP), ride Everest. If we then park hop to different park, would we be able to book those 2nd and 3rd entitlements in that new park?

Yes. It will work just like a normal band did before the changes that allowed you to make the 4th FPP from your phone (or in another park once you'd scanned one). You'll still be eligible for 2 more in the next park (and then an additional one at a time after that), but all will need to be booked at a kiosk from the park you want them in.

OK thanks! Are you also saying you can make a 4th FP on a dummy band (using a kiosk)? I didn't know that!
