opps meant to post this to your post but hit the wrong button that is what I get for doing two things at once. LOL:earseek:

I will be willing to help you but need more info.

when you do the scan it should tell you what it found.

What virus did it say you have?

Mal

hey Mal!
Thanks for the offer to help. No specific name of a virus came up. Will rerun the scan and post the info on what it says.
Stacey
Thanks.

Noton Anti-virus has found 0 infected file (s) and 5 at-risk file (s). The file names are: iexplorr11.dll, iexplorr22.dll, sui.exe, updaterInstall_112...., wupdater.exe.
The threat names are: adware.mybar, adware.mybar, adware.keenval, adware.keenval, adware.keenval.
Action: adware found (all 5 say this)
Status: at risk (all 5 say this)

Norton Anti-virus recommends that I let them delete all of the selected items automatically (each of the above have a check in the box next to their name)

When I select Delete, it has a pop-up box come up that says "delete will permanently remove the selected file (s) from your computer. Deleted Security Risks will be backed up in Quarantine if you need to recover the file. Do you want to continue?"
This is where I get stuck. I always delete, but these file keep reappearing when I do the Anti-virus scan.

I did receive one email bounce back that said that the email could not be delivered because of a potential virus attached. I send a ton of email, and this was the only email that bounced back. The email did not state which virus may have been attached.
I run my virus scans all the time and do the downloads that are suggested to ensure everything is up to date. However, I know that when I called Dell for tech support a month ago, they said that I had a few hijackers. I have installed Adware and found stuff through that, but have no idea what hijackers are, how you get them, what they do, and how to remove. As you can see, I am not tech savvy with these issues.
Mal~ Thanks for the help. I truly appreciate it.
Stacey

not to be confused with AdAware which is a trojan(hijacker)removal tool, it is the Belt virus which is the one I had received from a friend the two days that I was running w/o Nortons because of conflicts with new Internet Security 2004.

Anyway let's get rid of it for you. Turn off Nortons then

First you need to download and install hijack this

http://computercops.biz/postt6393.html

save the program to your computer after it downloads click on open.

It will then open a window that you will need to extract the files, click on extract all files
A new window will pop up click on next it will ask you which folder just use the one shown and click on next it will extract
click on finish

What version of windows are you running?

you can either post your scan here or post on Computer Cops.

If you post here I will help you remove.

Mal

Mal:
Sent you an email with the scan.
Again, thanks for your help.

go to your start menu, go to run, type msconfig, then go to start up and look for something around the lines of "mywebsearch" then remove the app from add/remove programs and restart

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

Check the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box as shown in this illustration:

Click Apply. The following message appears:

As noted in the message, this will delete all existing restore points. Click Yes to do this.
Click OK.
Proceed with what you need to do. For example, removing viruses. Restart the computer and follow the instructions in the next section to turn on System Restore.

do not turn back on until virus clean
To turn on Windows XP System Restore
Click Start.
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Uncheck the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
