:hourglass A friend of ours is cruising with us, he would really like to scuba on the Repo Cruise. His wife has been told that it is all booked up.

We are assisting them by asking any one out there if they are aware of any excursion available for scuba nut. We have been told as a result of the wife paying late, all of the excursion are sold out and he is upset. We have been asked to save this marriage. Please help :hourglass

Well, I can tell you that DH and his scuba buddies never book through the ship. If the guy scubas quite a bit, he knows about the scubaboard.com. That's a good place to find information about good dive ops in all the ports he will be visiting. Then he should contact them by e-mail or phone to book dives. It would also be a good idea for him to get on the Cruise Meet thread here on the DIS for the cruise, and find some other divers. He might find a dive buddy.

Thanks for the response. I don't think he knows about scubaboard.com but I've forwarded the link to this thread to them.

Any other suggestions are welcome too.

On the Aug repo cruise I would skip doing scuba in Cabo or Acapulco and find a scuba outfit he can book with privately in Curacao. Check with the Curacao Tourism Board here in the states to see if they can give you any referrals.

I dove in both Curacao and Cabo on the May cruise. One of the dives was full until 5 days before the cruise. I remember because I was able to book it on my birthday. Have him keep checking. People can cancel their excursions up until the week of sailing.

Thanks for the plug Hon!

I don't know how much experience your friend has, but the main reason we don't book through the ship is that they tend to have a dive op that uses a bigger boat that will hold sometimes as many as 30 divers. We call that a "cattle boat". The always have a broad mix of ability and experience levels. They usually tell you that the dive is 40 minutes long at a certain depth. The more experience you have the longer your air will last. I "paid for that air" and want to stay down as long as I can within the no decompression limits, and don't appreciate being "herded" along on a dive.

This is why the smaller, 6-pack dive boats are so popular with divers. Comfortable, fast and they let you dive your own profile.

BTW, where is the dive planned? Maybe I can help, or recommend an dive op!

I was on the May repo cruise and before sailing had the same problem - all booked up. I was desperate to dive in Curacao so kept hassling the company direct that Disney booked with and eventually got a cancellation. Worth making a nuisance of yourself and emailing them....

Good luck and happy diving

Kevin, I will be cruising on July 30th. I have booked the Disney excursions. Maybe you can give me some better ideas. I try to get to Cozumel every year or two. I got spoiled down there ,I use Aldora Divers. Six pack boats, steel 120's, computers! I hate the idea of cattle boats, but I am not too familiar with any west coast dive ops. Any info would be great. Thanks.
