Has anyone gone scuba diving at either HH or VB? What were the tours like and approximate cost?

Don't know about HH, but DH was looking for scuba trips during our last trip to Orlando. He found a scuba shop in Boynton Beach, about 70 miles south of Vero. You would need a car! He picked it because it was recommended by several Florida resident divers he got to know. He really enjoyed it, I guess that area is really good for diving. PM me if you want to the name & number, and I'll ask my DH. Diana

I know next to nothing about scuba diving, but I have seen people diving off of Vero (not from the resort). Maybe someone at the resort could give you advice/suggestions.

Sorry, I don't have an answer for you but I have a follow up question if I can tag along on your thread...

Is the snorkeling good at HH and do they provide ammenities?

Yes, you can shore dive off of Vero. If you're lucky, you'll come across some of the scattered remains of the 1715 spanish fleet -- mostly cannon and ballast. Vis is around 25 if the seas are flat -- and they must be flat. Otherwise, it drops to almost nothing.

If you have a car, drive about an hour south to Palm Beach (Riviera Beach Marina). For about $45, operators there will take you out for a 2-tank drift dive.

If you haven't drift dived before, the boats basically drop you in the Gulf stream current about 1 mile from shore. You follow the leader with a float ball, and 40 minutes later, you surface, and there's the boat waiting to pick you up. No effort! Check out Dive Solutions on the internet if you want to book. Weekends will probably require a few days notice.

Boynton Beach was mentioned by someone else. Excellent diving there. A little bit further than Palm Beach. Check out Dive Charter International. Around $55.

Both locations offer excellent diving at great prices.

Tried to dive in HH twice. The plans fell through both times. The boat broke - not enough divers... etc.

Visibility near shore is poor due to the sediment from the river. There is / was? a dive shop on the Island but I have not had luck with them. Alot of promises - no follow through.

Good luck. Post if you are successful.

There isn't a lot of diving around here because you have to go so far offshore to get to blue water. Its several hours by boat to the gulfstream. The dive shops around here mostly plan out of town trips to Fl or the islands.

I forget the "exact" percentage but something like 2/3 of the marsh on the entire east coast is in Georgia which is why the water is dark close to shore.
