I own at VWL currently. We have 200 points. Now, if it were up to me we would've bought more so we could go more frequently. We are only going to do 1 BRs and we have a 2 and 4 year old so we'll be going in summer every year or other times school is out. We're doing 2 vacations per year (a short four day one in the spring or fall and a week long in the summer) 200 points just won't cut it if we want to go for a week at Easter, Christmas, or summer. Anyway I was overruled by the wife who thought we'd "go to the beach" in the summer, too. So she said we didn't need to buy more than 200 points.

Well we went to the Jersey Shore this year and came home with........bedbugs!!!! I looked online and, yep, the whole jersey shore is crawling with those little guys. So now my wife has come around to the "go to Disney twice per year and no beach trip" idea. But to do that we needed more points.

I was looking at saving money and getting SSR, but we really want to stay by the MK every year. I decided I didn't want to risk not being able to get a week at BLT, GFV, or VWL at 7 months. I personally hate the busses. I realize they are a necessary evil, but I'm willing to spend more to walk or boat to MK rather than ride a bus to MK. We already own VWL so I didn't want to buy more there. Plus BLT and GFV have longer periods to expiration. So it seemed like the extra money to buy those would wash out when you factor in the longer time period. BLT is less per point than GFV, so BLT it is!

Long story short: we paid $105 for a 250 point BLT contract. Our current VWL is an August use year and this contract is a Feb use year, exactly 6 months different. It had all points banked. I realize 105 is on the high end and many people get it less than 100, but we wanted 250 points, we wanted Jan-Mar use year so it would be as far away from our current August use year as possible. So this contract was a good fit for us.

So this is a case of paying a premium to get what you want. There is so much focus on this board about the cheapest way to go, but sometimes I think buying what you want can be more important than saving $20 per point (assuming you have the cash to afford the extra $20 per point).

Congratulations BLT neighbor! I understand why a monorail resort is attractive and after staying at VGF, I appreciate being able to walk from BLT to MK even more. $105 is a pretty good price and you got what you want.

Happy planning!

Congrats from a fellow BLT owner!

You knew what you wanted and found a great contract. Fabulous!

You want your use year to be right before you'd travel. This way if something happens and you have to cancel you have time to bank your points.

We are going to be traveling in late August before school starts and then also during spring break which will be March or April. We have an August use year for our August trip and we needed a pre-spring break use year for the spring break trip: March, February, or January.

This way if the trip gets cancelled you still have time to bank your points. If you have an August Use Year and schedule a June trip and then cancel it you can't bank those points. You would lose them.

Congratulations. As long as you are comfortable with what you paid is all that matters and you got exactly what you wanted. Enjoy the extra trip every year!

I think you got a good deal especially if it had banked points! I love BLT own there, BWV and SSR. When I add on it will only be at BLT! We will use BWV for every other year F&W but prefer BLT for all other trips. I stuck with Aug UY and will continue since owning DVC and kids growing we have found we have traveled all times of the year so having 1 UY for me made it simple at the 7 month window to combine points. Congrats!

I think finding BLT for under a $100 a point is hard these days.

So if you have banked points and a February UY at $105 you got a good deal.

Welcome Home!

This makes more sense than other reasons I've seen. I always ask why people want different UY's. Usually the answer is "so I can book 11 months out!" Which doesn't make sense. That's why I asked. :)

You're right, it doesn't make sense.

When we originally bought (direct) we knew nothing about UY and were just given February. Apparently a lot of BLT contracts are Feb. As it turns out this is not a good UY for us because we normally travel in Sept/Oct and have run into problems with it since our banking deadline is Sept 30. Have had points go into holding a couple of times but haven't wasted any either.

When we bought a resale contract at another resort we debated on getting a different UY but thought about being able to combine easier at 7 months so we decided to stay with a Feb UY. Why make it harder than it needs to be?

$105 isn't a bad price. Still a lot better than Direct. You did the right thing by purchasing what you wanted so you could be satisfied.

Congrats neighbor!

Paying a few dollars more for what you want means little over the lifetime of the contract.

Free your mind from the bottom of the ROFR thread, and consider it as a $60 per point savings versus current retail cost. You will feel a whole lot better.

Truly not worth beating yourself up over a $5-10 difference when considered versus direct. Congrats on a very good contract purchase.

we bought direct feb UY...and paid a hell of a lot more .....so congrats on the resale

we only use our DVC for Disney resorts, so resale should have been the way to go for us..oh well...live and learn:thumbsup2
