I own at VWL currently. We have 200 points. Now, if it were up to me we would've bought more so we could go more frequently. We are only going to do 1 BRs and we have a 2 and 4 year old so we'll be going in summer every year or other times school is out. We're doing 2 vacations per year (a short four day one in the spring or fall and a week long in the summer) 200 points just won't cut it if we want to go for a week at Easter, Christmas, or summer. Anyway I was overruled by the wife who thought we'd "go to the beach" in the summer, too. So she said we didn't need to buy more than 200 points.
Well we went to the Jersey Shore this year and came home with........bedbugs!!!! I looked online and, yep, the whole jersey shore is crawling with those little guys. So now my wife has come around to the "go to Disney twice per year and no beach trip" idea. But to do that we needed more points.
I was looking at saving money and getting SSR, but we really want to stay by the MK every year. I decided I didn't want to risk not being able to get a week at BLT, GFV, or VWL at 7 months. I personally hate the busses. I realize they are a necessary evil, but I'm willing to spend more to walk or boat to MK rather than ride a bus to MK. We already own VWL so I didn't want to buy more there. Plus BLT and GFV have longer periods to expiration. So it seemed like the extra money to buy those would wash out when you factor in the longer time period. BLT is less per point than GFV, so BLT it is!
Long story short: we paid $105 for a 250 point BLT contract. Our current VWL is an August use year and this contract is a Feb use year, exactly 6 months different. It had all points banked. I realize 105 is on the high end and many people get it less than 100, but we wanted 250 points, we wanted Jan-Mar use year so it would be as far away from our current August use year as possible. So this contract was a good fit for us.
So this is a case of paying a premium to get what you want. There is so much focus on this board about the cheapest way to go, but sometimes I think buying what you want can be more important than saving $20 per point (assuming you have the cash to afford the extra $20 per point).
