Screaming Means Fun: a disboutiquers trip report: Update Page 9!

He actually SAW a bunny the other day...but since it was a New Jersey bunny it wasn't too scared of the barking doxie. He kind of looked at Beau like "What? You talkin to me? Puh-Lease..."

We did take our baby to the dog park yesterday for a good romp. He had a great time. Of course when we got home that little poot figured out a way to get up on to the table and chomp some of daddy's pasta salad whilst we were in the midst of table setting. Seriously. He's THAT FAST! And NOT sorry.

:lmao:

can't wait for more TR!! :thumbsup2

I am just :rotfl: at the thought of a bunny with a New Jersey accent!

Scrappy can be flash lightening fast too. We had to instill a "no food left on the table" rule too. He is not the least bit sorry either, even after a stern talking to. Doxies!

Ok, I am off to finish this trip report!

Oh how tired I get just thinking about Animal Kingdom. My bones just ache. It is my favorite park, outfit-wise, because I just love the outfit I made for Megan and Jacob designed his own and he is so proud of it. When anyone asked if I sewed it I was sure to note that he designed it and told me exactly what to do. I hope I am secretly encouraging him to let me sew for him more, but so far it isn't working, lol.

Oh, and it is hot! Much hotter than the other parks. And spread out. It takes forever to get from one side to the other. I always try to do Animal Kingdom early in our trip, before we get cranky and sick of each other, but it didn't happen this time.

We got in and sent Daddy to get a fastpass for the safari. That is how we start every morning at Animal Kingdom. Then I took the kids to the dinosaur part to ride the little dino ride. We determined if Megan was big enough to go on Primeval Whirl (she is not) and then Tom took Jacob on it. I let Megan play one of those horrible carnival games so she could win a dinosaur and then we waited for the boys.

These cute painter/juggler/acrobat guys came by (how did they know we were just waiting there for something to do?):

Even Jacob was impressed when they made it off the ride:

We were off to leisurely stroll to the safari when trouble occurred. Melt down of epic proportions because the princess was tired of walking. I don't know why I didn't bring the stroller. Actually, I do know. Someone (cough, Tom, cough) had decided that almost-six was the perfect age for a little girl to walk this trip and the stroller was an inconvenience so we didn't need it. Luckily, I packed it in the car anyway because we did need it! Especially at night. But we really needed it at Animal Kingdom. And we didn't bring it. :headache:

Anyway, I sent Tom off to get fastpasses for the rapids and we ducked into the bird show.

I love the bird show. It's one of those things that doesn't have a lot of razzle dazzle but I love it anyway. The birds are cool and the story is always the same and cute and I like it. It's like an old dependable friend of mine, that bird show. Tom hates it (it's so boring, he says) so it's been a couple of years since the kids have seen it, so it was new to them (well, Megan anyway).

IMG_0318.jpg

Ok, I think the meltdown had subsided enough to make it to the safari. It was starting to get hot and crowded and those are two things us spoiled native Floridians do not care for. It was time for fun and then a quick getaway to the hotel!

The fastpass line was "not fast" according to my little whiners. At least there were no smelly people in front of us, eh, CampbellScott?

Look, Megan's favorite birds! Yes, because they are pink:

IMG_0333.jpg

They are pink because of the food they eat, she told us. So smart!

The lion is awake!

IMG_0336.jpg

I don't really bother taking pictures of the animals while actually on the safari because I steal people's much better pictures of the internet and include them in our scrapbook! Shhh, please don't tell.

Why can we not walk by those drums without stopping? Oh, because it's cute, that's why!

On the way to the river rapids, Megan's ears perked up.

Daddy, I hear screaming! she said.

Yes, that's Everest, we told her.

You know what screaming means? It must really be fun! she started to get excited.

Jacob tried to tell her that it was scary and there was a monster but she was having none of it. There was screaming and she wanted a part of it. Unfortunately it was too late in the day to get another fastpass so we told her we would take her when we came back for her birthday (on Memorial Day weekend). She was thrilled and talked about "Mountain Ever-rest" the rest of the trip. She can't wait to ride it! Jacob basically treats it like the rambling of a crazy person. He tried to tell her she was too little to ride but we found out that no, she is not too little, so he is just going to act like she is insane instead. I don't know where he gets that from!

Well, it's just too scary for a little kid to ride! he humphed.

Anyway, we finally made it over to the river rapids and got soaked! Megan said she was the wettest and she was pretty wet but we all were!

I don't know if you can tell how wet they are in the picture:

IMG_0344-1.jpg

After lunch (at McDonald's, how lame it that) it was time to go! I wanted to try to see the Nemo show but it was way too crowded and these people in my family were way too cranky. Plus, we had dinner plans so we didn't want the kids to miss the pool time (although it wouldn't have bothered one of us :rolleyes1 ).

On the way out, we ran into Pocahontas. She was so sweet! She asked Megan about her outfit. Megan didn't say a whole lot, she had pool on the brain by this point.

Up next: a character meal and roasting marshmallows!

I love your trip report. I hope when I come back that I can do one as good and entertaining as yours. I wonder if I can convince Jenna that screaming means fun. She is afraid of all of the rides except Fantasyland.:lmao:

I just got all caught up - I love your TR - especially all the outfits you made!!! I am impressed! Can't wait for the next update!

Hooray for an update! Love the outfits. Wish I could see Jacob's t-shirt better.... :upsidedow Can't wait for the next one popcorn::

I always try to do Animal Kingdom early in our trip, before we get cranky and sick of each other, but it didn't happen this time.

This cracks me up. I will DEFINATELY remember this for the next time I go. Not that I am the one who gets cranky :rolleyes1 not at all. ::ahem::

Awww loving the TR report so far. The kids look so cute in their AK outfits!! Way to go Jacob for designing his own!!!

Can't wait to hear more!!:goodvibes

Animal kingdom is set up poorly. Disney should fire the civil engineer who designed it. We never seem to get anything done there.

And B won the same little dinosaur Megan won. So, our Orange-y has a twin. :rotfl2:

Very cute outfits

And.

I am an AK fan, actually. I like it FAR better than the Studios. Yes, it is a lot of walking, but we always take it slower and easier there - must be all the vegetation. and narrow paths. and such.

Lovely update! Keep it coming!

Lovin it Steph!!! I love AK too! Although, I have never seen the bird show....
Lydia was about 1/8" too short for Mt. Everest last year. If I had only brought her sandals in instead of the Crocs.... So she is looking forward to it this year. Although I think it will scare the bajeebers out of her!

Well it's is OFFICIAL...Megan and Teddy are a match made in Heaven!! He too is more psyched about EE than any six year old should be! I'll bet our little dare devils would have a BLAST together!

My favorite thing EVER is when silly husbands think that just b/c they *decide* something should be that it WILL be... The actual brains of the operation KNOW better. (that would be US!) That is why we pack the stroller AnYWAY! What would these men do without us? They'd always be hungry, the kids would always be mismatched and there would be a lot more meltdowns at Disneyworld! That's what!

Oh my goodness YES all y'all were SO lucky that y'all didn't get stuck between a group of French Foreign Exchange Students! Oh my WORD. We pert near died!

Love the AK outfits! Megan is too darling for words and WOOHOO for big brother and his design! Very creative!!!

can't wait to hear more!!!:goodvibes

loving your TR steph! The kiddies are so cute in their customs. I may have to CASE that tree shirt for Russell

What a great trip report. I just sat down and read the whole thing...your kids are adorable, and love your customs! I have never done a trip report before, and I am thinking I might try after our trip in June. It has been so much fun reading the trip reports.

Well, this is a fairly recent development. We used to spend our time at MK exclusively in Fantasyland because all of the other rides were just too scary too. Somehow this year, something clicked and now she is a daredevil!

I just got all caught up - I love your TR - especially all the outfits you made!!! I am impressed! Can't wait for the next update!

Thank you! It's been fun writing it too.

OK!

Basically, it is an appliquéd tree (hand drawn by me so it's not the best looking) and he picked out these buttons I sewed on. I was thinking about the tree and he came up with the animals. I was worried that people wouldn't get it, but he gets a lot of attention from cms while we are there. I think regular tourists don't get it as much, but that's fine.

I know! We end up trekking back and forth from the Dino land and the Safari and miss out of camp minnie and mickey completely. Then when we are trying to leave it is a complete log jam around the tree! We always leave thinking we missed so much, but no one wants to put in another day there.

Awww, I don't know if Megan's dino has a name. I'll have to ask her.

Very cute outfits

Lovely update! Keep it coming!

We do like it better than the studios. Actually, my husband is always lobbying to give up our day at the studios for another at AK but I veto that idea. I would feel our vacation is incomplete if we didn't try to go to all four!

Lovin it Steph!!! I love AK too! Although, I have never seen the bird show....

Oh, you must go to the bird show (Flights of Wonder). It's one of my favorites and a cool spot to park your feet when you are tired of walking.

I bet Lydia can ride it this year! (crossing fingers)

Well it's is OFFICIAL...Megan and Teddy are a match made in Heaven!! He too is more psyched about EE than any six year old should be! I'll bet our little dare devils would have a BLAST together!

I told you they were a match made in heaven! Anytime she heard screaming she wanted to know what was going on, we were laughing so hard that week.

I knew I should have fought harder on the stroller thing, but she was excited about walking too. She snookered me too!

Laughing about being mismatched. One time they were in his care while I was at a conference. When I got home they were both in hats. Don't even attempt to brush their hair! :rotfl:

loving your TR steph! The kiddies are so cute in their customs. I may have to CASE that tree shirt for Russell

Thanks, it was easy to do too.

What a great trip report. I just sat down and read the whole thing...your kids are adorable, and love your customs! I have never done a trip report before, and I am thinking I might try after our trip in June. It has been so much fun reading the trip reports.

Jenny

Thank you, yes you should try it. I am having a lot of fun doing it and looking at the pictures makes me so happy reminding me of the fun we had.

UPDATE: Character Dinner and Roasting Marshmallows!

After the pool and cleaning up we were off to the Swan for a character meal. We have been to some good ones and bad ones, so we try to hit a new one each trip. Of course, some people think they are a waste of money (*cough* Tom * cough*) but where else can you sit down for a meal and have characters come to you? Now that the kids are older, we do less of them but they are still fun.

Anyway, we wanted to try the Swan because it was close to the Beach Club and different. On the way, Jacob and Megan were still having their argument about Mt. Everest.

Jacob: It is called Mount Everest.

Megan: That's what I said, Mountain Ever-rest.

Jacob (louder): No, Everest!

Megan (louder still): That's what I said!

I am really no help in these arguments. Being the oldest, I completely understand Jacob's frustration and motivation. He is right, and being right is very important to an eight year old. And he wants me to see that he is right and she is wrong. Confirmation of that fact would be helpful.

On the other hand, Megan is cute. Cuteness tends to outweigh being right with me, and that's why we have a five year old tyrant. I know it's not right but how much longer is she going to be this cute? Time is fleeting: she used to beg me to read the story of "Sleeping Booty and Prince Pull Up" and now she can read a whole story about them herself and pronounce everything mostly the way it is supposed to be pronounced. :sad1:

So I am paralyzed between being right and being cute, but fortunately Jacob is already smarter than me and had figured a way out of the argument. He asks if he can push the stroller. Knock yourself out, kid.

He pushes and turns into Tourguide Jake, giving Megan a play by play commentary:

Jacob: On your right you will notice the beautiful Yacht Club, which is next to our hotel, but is not our hotel because it is gray and not blue.

Jacob: On your left, you will see your mommy, walking next to you.

And so it continued all the way to the Swan. Tom was straggling on the phone so he missed all the cuteness and rightness.

Finally, we made it to the Swan, where the food was ok but the characters fun!

We had to wait forever for Goofy! I don't know what the deal was there.

It was Italian-themed, with made to order pasta. It was good, but not out of this world. And we had to wait forever for the characters (all two of them) even though the restaurant was not crowded. We probably won't be back.

Then we went back to the Beach Club. Jacob was still in Tourguide mode, so it was a pleasant walk back. At the Beach Club they were roasting marshmallows, so we joined in. We had to pay an exorbitant amount for the marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers but it was so much fun (so what if they had one bite of the smore and declared it yucky?).

Soon it was bedtime and they were starting a movie on the beach so we made a quick retreat. There was no way cranky and spanky would last a whole movie so we had an early bedtime. Plus we all smelled like smoke so a bath was needed before bed.

Up next: The Barber Shop and Fantasmic!

Love your trip report! Sounds like you you had a great time other than the BC pool. I'm a worrier too when it comes to my kids so I fell your pain. I thought my kids would love SAB but now I don't think I would be able to stand it :) . Love the clothes you made your kids for the trip. I usually have to buy off ebay since I can't sew more than a button :lmao: . My DD loves the Marie dress.

Poor Jacob... It's so tough knowing your right and your sibling doesn't believe you, but I love his distraction method. It sounds like it was really cute! The Marie dress is to stinking cute... love it!

And thanks for the close up of Jacob's shirt from Animal Kingdom! he did a great job! :goodvibes Sorry I didn't see it earlier, but I really appreciate you putting it up!

Yes, I'm on my Disney vacation and I'm reading your TR! I needed my Megan and Jacob fix. I just fell in love with your kids when we met you last week. :lovestruc They're the cutest, sweetest kids! Jacob is hilarious and kept us all entertained. I hope Megan didn't mind having both of her hands held (one by Tessa, one by Lydia) all day! It was so great spending the day with you. You're pretty great, too!

Cranky and Spanky! :rotfl2:

WE just go with scourge and pestilence, ourselves....:rolleyes1

I'm glad your meal went well!! Megan looks so cute in her Marie dress!!

Tour-Guide-Jake. :rotfl2:

Love LOVE LOVE that chapter!!! Sooo darling!!!

It's a kick in the pants how your Jacob and my Sally are SO concerned with rightness and are rather annoyed when confirmation of said rightness is not immediately given by any grown up in the vicinity!!

Teddy too gets away with MURDER b/c he is so darn cute...lately the smart mouth responses and snarky tone are outweighing the cuteness.

The roasting marshmallows looked fun!!! I don't know if I'd have been able to party with the money for the snacks though b/c Sally and Teddy won't touch s'mores either! They LOVE to roast marshmallows for their daddy and me, but wouldn't dare to eat something that had been "licked by fire!":confused3

I LOVE Megan's Marie dress!! LOVE IT!! The Beach Club looks fun. I've always wanted to stay there! I didn't know it was so close to the Swan!! I have always wanted to check that place out too!!

I am just living vicariously through y'all with every chapter!!!!

can't wait for more!!!:goodvibes

It is my favorite park, outfit-wise

This statement made me laugh!

I completely understand having a favorite park "outfit-wise."

I'm really enjoying reading about your family's experiences.
