Scream Team at YC/BC--EDITED 1/7/08 POST 1

I am still perfecting where I am going to "meet up" with DH while he is doing the full, but I am hoping some of the time is in the Boardwalk/Beach Club area!! Does anyone have a good guess how long it will take to get from the BeachClub to the finish line if I walk through Epcot?? I would hate to miss him finish his first Full Marathon!!!!

I'll get to the YC/BC about 9:30ish, I'll be doing the red #2 water stop until 9:00, so however long it takes me to get back to the WWoS and then drive to the Yacht Club

Krista - I've been looking at the map because I too will be at WS#2 then I was thinking they'd take us back to WWoS at 9:00, then I would drive to Epcot to be at the finish and I'm worried about roads being closed. Do you think we'd be able to take the bus back and drive to the YC that quickly? Gosh, that would be great. :goodvibes

I think we'll be okay, at least driving to the YC. I'll have to get final directions from Stephen (he can drive property with his eyes closed), but I know WWoS is on Victory Parkway, so we'll make a left to get out of the parking lot. While on Victory, we'll cross Osceola Parkway, we'll be above the marathon course, so that road should be open. We'll take Victory until it dead ends into Buena Vista Parkway. Now I "think* I can make a left on Buena Vista to get into the Epcot Resort area, or I can make a right and get on Epcot Center Drive to get into Epcot. Coming from that direction, the roads should be open as it'll be about 3.5 hours into the marathon and people should be well past the Epcot area, the back of the pack should be getting close to mile 12 or 13. For runners coming back into the Epcot area, the course is coming from AK to MGM and we won't need to take any of those roads.

If anyone needs a ride from the WWoS to Epcot, I'll have 3 spots in my car, 4 if people don't mind squishing in the back seat and I can either drive everyone to the Yacht Club, valet park and those who want to scream team at YC/BC can make our way there and those who want to go to Epcot can walk over. I'll be driving from YC to Epcot once all the Wish people pass mile 24. OR I can drive us to Epcot and park there and then the YC/BC people can walk to the YC. Then we can all walk through Epcot and the finish line after the marathon. Either way, it's going to be a lot of walking! We can talk about it more Friday night at the Pop, I am happy to do whichever.

And if there are any other volunteers at the Pop, you are more than welcome to ride over to the WWoS with me, but the only thing is, I have to be there at 3:00 am, so that might not work for people working later shifts. And Stephen and I aren't coming back to the Pop after the marathon as we are checking into Saratoga Springs, but if you need a ride in the morning, just let me know.

Krista - I kept reading your post and looking at the course map I have on my wall. My head was swiveling back and forth and back and forth! :rotfl: Well, I'll be headed to WWoS at 3:00am also. I WISH there was a way to park at Epcot and walk over to the YC and Scream Team then walk back to the finish line. I can't walk thru Epcot since I only have a one day park pass and I need that on Monday. I'm trying to avoid driving as much as possible since I think the roads might be a bit of a mess. But then again, I really have no idea. Hmmmmmm.....what to do, what to do.....:confused3

Just wanted to put in my Thanks in Advance to our Scream Teamers! I usually completely space out around mile 24, so you might have to scream REALLY LOUD to get my attention! Oh, and if you happen to see a slightly older than middle age man and woman trying to corral two crazy kids while cheering--it's probably my FIL and his GF (they might need some help too;) )

Judy--I know you'll probably want to see Charlie when he crosses the finish line, but if you don't care, you are more than welcome to ride from WWoS to YC and then to Epcot with me.

Krista

Oh, I am PMing right now....

Oh Krista, you sweet thing. I want to be EVERY-WHERE! I want to Scream Team at YC because I did that last year and it was SO MUCH FUN! Right, Karen and John????? :yay: But I really want to be at the finish line for Charlie's first marathon. :cheer2:

Oh geez, what a dilemma!

This is Charlie's first full? I thought he already ran a full!! Definitely go to the finish line then, your husband's first full trumps the Wish team!!

I'm feeling that way too!!

DH thought he'd finish the marathon in 4 hours, now he thinks maybe 5 hours? I am going to scream team at the YC/BC (as we're staying BCV) but I know dh will be at the finish line for my first ever Half -

I decided to wing it and work on the plan at Pop!! (Friday 4pm!)

I have to dig through all our hockey gear to see where my cow bells ended up!! hmmmm wonder if they sell them in Africa at EPCOT?

time to google!!

Just wanted to bump this up so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle!!!

Krista

I can't tell you how happy I am to know that you all will be there to keep me going to the end. Thank you in advance! (I'm not sure I'll be in a state of mind to be thanking you on Sunday:rolleyes: )

Hey everyone!! So I might be able to stay and scream team for full with you guys at BC  I am even trying to weasle (sp?) my way into helping at the water stop you guys are going to be at.

Krista I was thinking of driving over to finish when we are done there also, so if there is room left maybe I will just hop in with you.

Also all the volunteer spots look to be full but if anyone knows anyone who cant' make it or does not want to do it now, PLEASSSSSEEEEE let me know. :confused3

I wanted to help more than anything since I can't run, but we just couldn't stay another night. Well one of the WONDERFUL people on this team offered me a place to stay Saturday night, so I can stay and scream team which means now I could help too.:yay:

I did put myself on waitlist through WWOS and I emailed and will call today, but I just wanted to put that out there since people's plans change and things come up.

I think I'm putting my Scream Team at the YC/BC Sunday. It's DH, DD8, DS21mo, my mom and maybe one of her friends. There's a chance at least some in my group (minus my incredibly rambunctious DS) will go to MK to watch, but I'm thinking at the very least they can stroll out of their hotel and see everyone. I've already warned them odds are high I'll be limping and/or crying by that point...

Hard candy question- what's the best kind? My DD and I bought some Jolly Ranchers, but now I'm worried that their rectangular shape may cause you know, choking (especially by mile 24 or whatever that is). Not that I'm over-thinking everything in a panic...

Angie--I will definitely have a spot in my car for you!!!

Krista

I forgot to mention too that since we will be driving and have room, I will bring my cooler and buy a couple of cases of gatorade, what flavor do you think is the safest, original?

angie

Jen--Good point! Don't want to kill the Wish team!! I was thinking about buying the Brach's candy that they sell by the pound at the grocery store--you know the cinnamon disks, peppermint disks, etc. But maybe that's not a good idea with people trying to suck on candy and run/walk at the same time. People had pretzels had the Flying Pig, that was a good way to get the salt levels back up, so maybe I'll just bring bags of pretzels. Plus we can bribe the kids with those!! I'll get some salt tablets too, it looks like it's going to be another hot marathon this year.

Angie--THANK YOU for bringing Gatorade!!!! You are awesome! I would think original would the best or maybe orange, something everyone's used to. I'll give you some money on Friday to help with the expense.

Krista

:woohoo: :cheer2:

I was going to be with dh at the start - monorail over and back, hit the YC/BC run to see dh at the finish??? maybe not.... but either way, I thought we'd still be back to the yc/bc before the finish!

Can you tell - I want to do it all!! :)

I think I'll have a better idea Friday, no, Sunday!! (after I run the Half, I may just sit down and scream at yc/bc and dh can manage w/o me!! :rotfl: )

Question- say I hope to finish the full in about 5+ hours or so. Do you think I should stick around the finish to watch my fellow WISHers or should I try to limp on back to the YC/BC and cheer from there? As a runner, can you even see much at the finish as far as cheering? My family will stay at the YC/BC location, so I may have some weird guilt about lingering too long at the finish (ridiculous to feel guilty, I know.)

Of course it depends on how I feel at the time, but just wondered if anyone with experience has strong feelings one way or the other.

I like the pretzel idea! Maybe I'll bring some smaller, less chokable candies, like Skittles and jellybeans... :woohoo:

Here's a couple of pictures of some of us Scream Teaming at the YC last January... I try to be obvious, dressing in lime green with a big ole' sign...:lmao:

Hello, fellow screamers!!
I'm willing to carry/hold whatever for whomever. My job this weekend is to SUPPORT the WISH team! I will probably miss the fast people after TTC, as I will be there for the last WISHers to pass each spot. I'll have sliced oranges and some of those MickeyD salt packets, wipes, sport beans, a couple of protein bars... If it's going to be hot..I'll bring a small cooler to get ICE (at Poly and YC/BC)!! I learned from Mel last year.. See ya'll on SATURDAY and SUNDAY!! :goodvibes Anne
