Scrapbooking Group - Matting Photo's

Hello Scrappers!

When matting photo's with one, two or even three layers, do you cut a complete mat?

The reason I ask is because I was reading a magazine the other evening, and it was suggested there that if you are a bit tight on card/paper - if you cut the mat, then say at about 1/2" in, cut out the centre - this would give you further offcuts of the card/paper.

I then got thinking - maybe everyone does it this way anyway and I've been wasting a lot of card/paper????

To be honest, I hadn't even thought of cutting out the centres of the mats but I suppose it is a way of economising?

What do you do - what is your thoughts on this?

I will only cut the middle out if I am short of that paper and am trying to eek as much use of it as possible - or if it's a very large mat.

I quite like to mat the entire page, but that would be a lot of paper wasted, so if I do that, then I would cut out the center of that piece.

It's also supposed to help reduce the bulk in your album - particularly if you tend to use double or triple mats.

I'm afraid I'm of the Shirley Conran school of scrapbooking - "lifes too short to cut the middle out of the mat". However, like Bev I'd probably do it if I was short of the paper I was using.

I read it as 'mating photos' and suddenly your scrapbooking took on a whole different meaning!!

Janice, no Shirley Conran has nothing to do with scrapbooking but she wrote the book "Superwoman" in the seventies and her most famous quote is "life is too short to stuff a mushroom". Must be showing my age
