Hi. just wondering how all of yous prepare to scrapbook away from home. I am going to my second weekend retreat and want some helpful hints. The one last year seamed that I was running out of ideas by Sunday morning.
I just love these retreats- Friday night to Sunday afternoon, all meals, snacks, prizes, demonstrations, new friends and this year we get to sleep in cabins.Last year it was at a Circle Square Ranch:banana::cool1::yay::woohoo:

I'm going to my first the end of this month. I can't wait. I have so much to get caught up on. I'm probably going to bring EVERYTHING. I'm one of those kind of people who freak with out all their stuff. I might leave some things in the car but atleast they will be there. As far as prep, I'm mostly trying to get a few pages done here and there, just to get in a little bit of a groove. I need to go through pictures and get them printed. Right now I have 3 months worth of pictures on hand and I hope to get at least one more month printed. If I actually get through all of that I will be impressed! I'm hoping to go to another weekend at the end of the winter. Maybe by then I will be somewhat caught up. NOT! :lmao:

I kit my items- if you look at the techniques sticky (at the top) there is a link to a thread in which I took pictures and showed step by step how I kit. I know that makes a big difference. if you don't have time to kit then you want to choose just 1 or 2 themes that you have a lot of stuff to scrap and bring what you need for those themes (you are less likely to get as much done this way though).

Rebecca

I do what Rebecca suggests above! I make little kits of what I want to do: pictures, coordinating paper, embellishments all into a large baggie. I also bring what I need surrounding a theme or two that I'd like to work on: for example, I might bring all my Disney stuff from my last trip along with my Disney papers, embellishments, coordinating papers (I am a big user of black, white, yellow, red, with others thrown in like Donald Blue, Goofy Orange, etc).

Another theme I work with at crops or retreats is working on my calendar title pages for the year - that gives me 12 layouts to work on!

It helps me stay on track,
Rhonda :)

I always bring waaaaaaaaay too much with me and feel like I don't get much done. I should take more prep time and kit like you guys do and I'll feel much more accomplished!

For SDV this year I followed Rebecca's tips and kitted one album but not the other two. Guess which album I finished, yup the kitted one. I made progress in the others, but having exactly what I needed to finish one whole album made a huge difference. For the other two, I brought only what I thought I'd need for them and that helped me to not bring too much stuff, but not having it kitted and having to choose paper and embellishments while at the crop ate up a lot of my time on those albums. I don't mind that so much at home, but I wanted to get a lot done while I was away.

We are supposed to scrap at weekend crops? Boy, I knew I forgot something! :lmao: I think I spend as much time gabbing as I do scrapping. That is the fun of it.

Each year when I go to SDV, I prepare for a project of making small albums to give as school gifts. My goal is to get 10-12 done. I pack just what I need to get that project done, plus any little projects that I haven't finished, ie the Mickey album from CK Hartford, and want to get done.

It really is helpful to prepare in advance for what you would like to work on. :)
