Scrapbook Package

Hi,

Can any recent cruisers confirm that a DCL scrapbook package can be purchased on the ship? I am curious what is included. I have compiled a fair amount of stickers, Disney paper and dye cuts from other sources, so I am wondering what else might be included and unique.

It seemed to be that there was nothing unique at all to the ship. In fact, I saw the same package at DTD the day after our cruise. The "scrapbook" they offered (I was on the 11/23 Magic) was really just a photo album, not a scrapbook. I did not bother to buy it, instead I picked up every little bit of potential memory stuff I could get my hands on, including menus, napkins, drink stirrers, you name it. Of course, I am still over a year behind with my books but when it's time, I'll have everything I need.

I started scrapbooking after our Land and Sea trip last year. It was so great to have the pictures in a book instead of just sitting in the Target envelopes in a drawer. I am now officially obsessed with that activity, although don't have nearly enough time to make much headway with my pictures.

In the srapbook that they sell on the ship there are some DCL stickers as well as some DCL cutouts . They were clearing out the 2002 one's on our Dec. cruise so it was a deal! Now I just need to find the time to put it together!!! It will be my first attmept at one.

The biggest problem I seem to have is the lack of "photos" to put in it. I have over 300 digital ones, but the printed ones I have are the one's DD (who's 9) took on her camera. My best shots are the digital ones, so I think I will have to have some of them printed off. I think the scrapbooking will be wonderful for capturing all those little bits and pieces like your tickets for the Character breakfast that would normally go into the an envelope never to be seen again!

SuAnne - I do most of my scrapbooking with digital pictures. If you get yourself a program called Microsoft Picture It! (you might already have it because it came with one of our camers) it is very easy to create pages. There are album pages that already have mats etc as part of them. I just customize them a little. The two cruise scrapbooks I've done were 8 1/2 x 11 pages. i did one for our 2002 trips on the larger (not quite 12x12 pages and used the 8 1/2 x 11 print outs and then borders etc.

You don't have to go to all the trouble of printing them out and then cutting them etc.

Give it a try! I'm falling in love with scrapbooking!

We just returned from the 1/16/03 Wonder and they did have a Scrapbook (8 1/2 x 11) for sale which included:

1 title sheet
4 diecut cards
1 sticker sheet
10 scrapbook pages
10 page proctector pocket pages (scrapbook sheets slide down into them)
12 assorted color sheets

the book it comes into has Mickey on the cover dressed as a Captain and a picture and a cruise ship with the words Disney Cruise Line 03 - Photo Memories. It also has two pockets on the inside to store other items. It is just a starter kit, so the other items that you have will be great for it. The cost was $25.00 (i felt well worth the cost).

Thanks Mary for the tip about Microsoft Picture It! sounds perfect. I don't think I have it, but I'd better double check the software that came with my camera as I am using a different program on my PC, but that sound like just what I need. Oh oh I can see this turning into something here!!!

We just returned from the 1/16/03 Wonder and they did have a Scrapbook (8 1/2 x 11) for sale which included:

SuAnne - another way to get your digital pix printed is to use Ofoto (a Kodak company linked to amazon.com). I upload the pix I want printed to their site and for 49 cents each, they print them on photo quality paper and mail them to me. I do not have a good enough printer to print them myself. It is very easy to use. They will even allow you to make on-line albums to share...we do this frequently so that my folks in FL can see the pix and decide for themselves which ones to order.

I'll throw in my 2 cents. I would send your digitals to Wal-Mart. com or dotphoto.com. They are the cheapest out there. Wal-Mart is .29 cents, dotphoto.com is much cheaper if you buy a package. As low as .18 cents each if you buy 550 prints for $99.00. You don't need to use them all at once. They just deduct the number of prints you send and all you pay is shipping until you have used all 550 prints. Wal-Mart is about the easiest as you can pick them up at your local store and you dont have to pay shipping. The advantage to doing this is that they are printed with a photo process, so you wont have the same running or color transfer that you get from printing on an ink jet printer.

For what its worth...I used a digital camera on our last trip to WDW. I have a photo-quality printer. So I bought a scrapbook (sounds similar to the one from the cruise). When I got back, I used the scrapbooking materials for some stuff. But most of my pictures notes etc. I printed. My software lets me pick out 8 1/2 x 11 pages with different layouts, some with text, some without, big pictures all kinds of stuff.

Anyway, I used the oversized "photo album" and filled it with regular page protectors. I then used a Kodak photo paper that can be printed on both sides. So, print on both sides, slide it in the photo protector and you have an awesome album. The scrapbook is great because it is big enough to hold everything. I can't wait to get mine on the ship.

I'll second the Ofoto recommendation. I have used Wal-mart.com and while they are cheaper, I found the quality to be much lower. We run a broadband connection so I upload high res photos to Ofoto -- plus they run 10 - 15% off sales and/or free shipping all the time....

I've been scrapping a couple of years, Disney is all I've had time to scrap, I use Creative Memories and since I am obsessed with my albums lasting longer than I ever will, feel it is worth the investment to get the higher quality prints.

I have an inkjet I use to print draft pictures on, problem is if you don't use it enough the cartridges get clogged long before you run out of ink.

Whatever you decide - enjoy your new hobby! It's a great thing to do with a buddy too.
