Hi everyone! It has long been a dream of mine to take a vacation to Scottland. I am thinking a tour would be best as I am a single woman and can't find anyone who would like to go with me. I have never been overseas before and have no idea how to start. Does anyone have any tips or recommendations? And how do I start a budget for this? I am more interested in the outdoors and history than shopping if that would make a difference. TIA!

I have not been overseas, either. Gosh, I would love to go, too, but I don't have the money and can't take the time to go, being a SAHM with 2 kids.
Sounds like it would be a beautiful vacation to visit Scotland.
Have you looked into posting on the UK disboards? I would think they can help you somehow. Also, you should look into a travel agent in your area that specializes in overseas, UK packages.
I wouldn't even know how to save for a trip like that. Maybe put away $10-$20/ week in an envelope? Would add up over time.
Best wishes in getting the info you need.

bumping this for ideas. My daughter and her friend are planning a trip to Scottland, England and France for 3 weeks in May/June.

maxiesmom I hope you have a great time on your trip!

Well, I haven't been to Scotland, but I've been to Europe a few times--by myself, too.

I would start with Google and look for tour companies (just type in "Scotland tours"--only one "t" in "Scotland"--and you'll get a big long list of companies to get you started and give you ideas). Buy a good guidebook or two at the bookstore, etc. Tripadvisor.com is a good website for reviews and discussion. Also fodors.com and frommers.com. Look at flight prices from your city to Edinburgh or Glasgow wherever you want to fly into. You can do this pretty cheaply or expensively, it depends. Once you figure out exactly what you want to see, you can budget it based on that.

Don't worry too much about being a single female traveler. There are many ways to be safe, and a lot of it has to do with simple common sense. :goodvibes

I live in Glasgow, Scotland so if you need any further info please pm me.
