I have a Scottish Fold cat named Logan and my sister has one called
Finley.

In Scotland the slang for dog is dug. Dug would be a cool name or how about Nessie.

The dogs in my street are called Shelly, Megan, Holly, Lucy, Lara, Sam, Rocco, Blue, Cadbury, Ben. Whatever happened to dog names like Rover? :D

Dugan (Our dog is a Shetland Sheepdog, and we wanted a scottish name to reflect the breed's Scot origin. The Shetland Islands are located off the coast of Scotland.)

Duncan (I suppose this name could be either under tv/movies, origin, or breed. "Duncan" is the main Scottish character who plays the "Higlander" in a well known tv series of the same name. We thought the name would be appropriate for our West "Highland" Terrier.)

How about Shamus? When he pee pees in the house you can say shame on you Shamus! :rotfl:

By the way it's hay-mish not ham-ish. Just FYI.

Yes, but still spelled Hamish so not to confuse anyone. Also, there's Seamus (Harry's Gryfindor dorm mate from Harry Potter).

Fergie

Skye (as in Isle of...)

Ewan (not like McGregor. I don't like him. ;) )

Scot

We have a cousin named Seamus and a nephew named Aidan, so those are out. My nephew just named his dog Doug, so Dug or Douglas are out too.

I tend to like 2 syllable names for a dog, I think it's easy to call them.
kat3668, you are either an encyclopedia of Scottish knowledge or you did some research. Wow!

I could just call him Scotty, I guess. My son still like Howie. Surprising, since he's a mad Harry Potter fan. I thought for sure he would want Harry...

I'm so happy you took the time to look for(and find) a good breeder!
You definitely want a strong sounding name. Names that have a "sh" or "S"
sound in it,get the dog's attention. I can't wait to see pictures!!

My male Scottish Terrier is Mac N. Tosh (Macintosh).

We have a female West Highland White Terrier named Suzy. My husband is lobbying hard for Suzy to have a little brother so I, too, am trying to think of male Scottish names. If we end up with another dog, I think it will be either Archie or Angus. (although I kinda like the idea of Wesley the Westie!).
I also like Dougal and Finnigan (but Finnigan might be Irish, I'm not sure).

To the poster who has a Scottish fold, I have one too! Mine is a pure white male named Lexus. Two pure white, Scottish descendant pets. Anyone sensing a theme, here ;) .

So far my DH likes Fergus, Logan (although we live in Boston & that's the name of the airport  ), Duncan, Wallace, ...still discussing. Hadn't thought of Mulligan, that's kind of cute. We're not golfers but golfing is Scottish!

I still like Whisky but I think I may get outvoted!

Any other suggestions, I keep reviewing my list and getting new favorites> This is harder than naming my kids! :lmao:

We also call him Mully for short.

(And BTW, we are having sooo much trouble naming our upcoming baby, but the dogs had their names picked out before we even picked THEM out!! :teeth: )

Neesom : ) We have the cutest little scottie that comes to our clinic withhis sister names Fallon

Och aye the noo! good luck with your new baby! :thumbsup2

How about Glenfiddich, Glenmorangie, Chevis Regal (Chevvy) - all Scottish Whiskeys. Andrew after St Andrew, Nessie after our Loch Ness monster or our famous wee doggie Greyfriar or Bobby the pup who stayed at his masters grave after he died!

Let us know what you decide to call the wee beauty.

Wow, I got a bona fide Scot to respond to my thread!

My son is Andrew, we have lots of Roberts and Bobbys in the family, so that's a nay. The whiskey names are tempting (in more ways than one :teeth:) but they seem awfully long to call a dog "Glenfidditch!" My DS3 still says "pixty dust", I can't picture her wrapping her tongue around those whiskey names!

Nessie sounds like a girl name (it's a boy dog).

I really do love all the great suggestions. I didn't think I would have these many to choose from (you guys sure love a challenge, don'tcha?!)

Thanks, I will let you know what we decide (Fido, probably!)

Keep 'em coming if there is further inspiration!

My much missed canine companion was named DIGBY - I found it in a baby name book, and it said it was a Scottish name. I miss my Digby very much, but you are welcome to use Digby if you like....

Given that someone mentioned that dogs respond better to names beginning with 'sh' or 's', how about a true Scot's name of 'Shuggie' . It's a fond/nickname made from the proper name 'Hugh'. Then you could call him 'Shuggie the dug'.
Having said that, the name 'Shooie' ( Sh-hughie) is also a nickname and leads to the joke ( it may lose something in translation)
What do you call a man with big feet and no dog?
Big shooie dug-less ( Big Hughie Douglas)

I'll sneak off now.
