Thank-You Parasol

53ef0287c93aa70a84e05d644f2c56ab_s

Original Instructions

Supplies:
-Excel: To print "Thank you"
-Parasol (Paper Lantern Stores) - Pictured is a 32"
- Acrylic Paint
- Fabric Paint (Puffy Paint)
- Assorted size paint brushes
Directions:
1) Go into Excel and open a text box.
2) Select the font Chopin Script (if you do not already have this font, you'll need to download and install it. ) Font size 600.
3) Type out "Thank you" on separate lines. Print.
4) Arrange the letters and tape together.
...this is where it gets time consuming....
5) If you're using a white parasol you can tape to the back and trace. Skip to step 8.
6) If you're using a colored parasol you'll need to make a stencil buy cutting out the letters (Make sure you leave sections un-cut out so that the letters stay in tact. You can fill in these gaps later when painting. (Think of the letter "O" You can't cut it all out because you'll lose the center.. KWIM?)
7) Tape the stencil to the parasol and trace using a sharpie marker. It can be a think line that you'll make thicker with paint. Remove stencil.

Here are some pics from what she did:

b552e65572d24db7a18aa0758f893eec_s

8) Mix your paint 50/50 and begin painting your parasol. Paint dries pretty fast, you'll realize you'll need a couple coats to hide.

:teacher:My Notes

I do not recommend tracing from the back of the parasol if you are going to do a white parasol as she states in step 5 for this reason, if you do, the words will look very far apart on the parasol, if you want them close to together and to look the same way that mine and hers does trace on the front, it's more time consuming, but it's worth it.

There is a lot of guess work with this, don't be intimidated by it, you are using pencil so you can make some mistakes. When you are tracing on the front the wood lines on the front of the parasol will get in the way and you will have to guess where to trace, just keep at it until you get it the way you like :thumbsup2

The Aisle Runner

photo-88.jpg

The Original Directions

Over the weekend I finally tackled my DIY Monogrammed aisle runner. I documented each step with a picture because it makes it easier for people wanting to do this in the future. I was surprised at how easy this project was, but be prepared, it takes at least 4 hours! I read that before and thought to myself, “no I can do it quickly and it will look great”, WRONG! I did a practice run and that took about 3.5 hours and then my real one took about 5 hours. I purchased a 150ft cloth aisle runner from www.save-on-crafts.com for $35 including shipping. I also purchased a monogram from Nicole at Pink designs for $5.

Here are the steps:

1.Here are all the supplies that I used: Acrylic paint, Tupperware bowl, scissors, hard bristle paint brushs, scissors, tape, push pins, and a pen (use a pencil, Wax Paper - Read Vicki's notes :wizard:)

2. In order to print out my monogram I opened up the image in the program Paint, went into page set up and expanded the image to 3 pages tall and 3 pages wide. After it was printed out I taped it down to my kitchen table.

4. After I centered the aisle runner and got the right placement, I pinned the aisle runner down to the paper so it wouldn’t move while I was tracing and painting.

5. I then stenciled the monogram onto the fabric with a pen, very lightly. I could still see pretty well through the fabric as I was painting so the line didn’t have to be too dark.

6. I began with my lighter gold color for the W, and then worked my way from the right hand side of the aisle runner to the left (since I am left handed and didn’t want my arm in wet paint the whole time)

7. About 4 hours later, I was done! Let it dry for a couple hours and remove the push pins. Roll it back up and store until your wedding day!!

:teacher:My Notes

The author recommends using Paint, but you can use Microsoft Publisher as well. Do 3 feet by 3 feet. The monogram will print out in pieces, this is the difficult part, you will need to use a ruler to make a line across each sheet of paper where the letter stops so you can cut the paper and accurately place the letter pieces next to each other. Be patient you don't want your monogram to be lopsided

I don't know how the author forgot this next part, but you need to this before you start painting, put down wax paper on top of your image and then put the runner on top of the wax paper. If you don't the paper will dry to your runner and when you are trying to separate the two, your runner will most likely rip. Don't forget the wax paper. :flower3:

Use a pencil, not a pen.

Buy your runner from Micheal's or Hobby Lobby. They both give out 40 - 50% of coupons like they are water, lol; therefore you will get your runner at 1/2 the price. If you are not subscribed to Michael's email list and don't get coupons pm me I will give you a coupon! or go to Joann Fabrics, walk in and get a free mailer, walk out and go to Michael's they take competitors coupons!!!:rotfl: I would hate to see someone spend $30 when they could spend $15. The runners in both stores are in their wedding aisles usually at the bottom, I bought the one with a flower pattern :cutie:

Most Important, have fun!:dancer: There are so many designs you can use for this!

The Centerpieces

IMG_0052.jpg

These are the directions I gave Jenifer aka lilsqueakrr :)

For One Centerpiece You Need:

1 - 2" or 1" Styrofoam Ball (Depending on the how big your want your arrangement)

2 - 3 Bunches of your Favorite Flower or a Mixture of Flowers from Hobby Lobby or another craft store (When I say bunches I mean each bunch has about 12 or more flowers)

1 Package of Emblishments for bouquets (I used purple flower rhinestones from Michael's you can find them in the bridal aisle)

1 Hot Glue Gun (Low or High Heat)

Glue sticks

Wire Cutters you can use to cut the stems

Glass Jar of your choosing

Aqua Gems Liquid Marbles from Joann Fabrics (They come dehydrated or hydrated, they are down the aisle with glass balls used for flower arrangements)

1 Bright Spots Submersible Light from Joann Fabrics

Black feather trim from Hobby Lobby

Instructions

Take your flowers and cut them with the wire cutters to about 2 inches long. You need to start by making an equator line around your ball with the flowers. You put hot glue on your flowers and stick them into the foam. Add more hot glue around the edge to secure your flower to the ball. Keep doing this with your flowers until you have completely covered half of the ball with the arrangement that you want. (The bottom half of the ball will be hidden once you put it on your glass jar.) Add the embellishments by hot gluing them were you want them to the flowers themselves. Next we add the feather trim. Unwrap the trim and peel off just enough of the sticky tape on the back of the trim that you need to work with so you don't have a big sticky mess of extra. Turn you arrangement so the flowers are facing the floor and you see the stems. Put one dot of hot glue on the edge of the plastic part holding the petals together. Place the first corner of your trim sticky side down on the hot glue. Do the same to the flower next to the one you glued and the next and the next until the whole bottom part of the arrangement is covered with the feather trim. Cut the extra with scissors and glue the cut edge down on top of the original edge of trim that you glued first. Your flower ball should now be completed.

Hydrate the Aqua Gem gel balls. Once hydrated add them to the glass jar. Turn on your Bright Spots light and put it light part down into the top of the gel balls. Don't place it down to far just enough for the light to be hidden.

Place the flower arrangement on top of your jar and your centerpiece is done!

You can also add ribbon around the jar to dress it up or a rhinestone buckle and place it on a round mirror from a craft store.

Brooch Bouquet

Read My Notes at the bottom of the tutorial before you begin, I edited the directions a lot because some of them I didn't follow, if you want original directions please click "The Original Instructions." This tutorial is in two parts, my notes are in part 2 :)

The Original Instructions

Supplies:

50-85 brooches, large earrings or necklaces (I used 55 pieces. ½ were jewelry pieces from my grandmother and great-grandmother and the other ½ I purchased on clearance at Michael’s) (I used about 50 for mine)

2 yards 5 inch wide Midori taffeta ribbon in gold (I used purple, use your favorite color:thumbsup2)

Scissors

Wire cutters

Needle nose pliers

Hot glue gun with glue

22-gauge green florist wire

Light green corsage tape

Bonus Stuff I used

Pearl Corsage Pins
Black feather Trim from Hobby Lobby down the boa aisle
Rhinestone wristlet from Gordmans, you can find these at any jewelry accessory store
Exacto Knife

2 stems of inexpensive artificial hydrangea-light green (I used purple, one of my wedding colors :) )

Step One: Wire and taping
2a.jpg

Attach wire to your jewelry pieces. Since each brooch will be different you will need to alter your wiring technique for each piece. For heavier pieces you will want to use a couple of pieces of wire. The wired brooch should not droop when you hold it between two fingers otherwise it will not hold up in the finished bouquet.
3a.jpg

Twirl the corsage tape down the wire pulling as you go. The tape sticks best when gently pulled and is overlapping itself. This will take some practice. Be patient and take your time
4.jpg

The wired and taped brooch should be sturdy. The tape finishes the wire, holding multiple wires together and adding some strength
5.jpg

Step Two: Assemble the brooch bouquet
6.jpg

Hold the hydrangeas in your left hand. Insert your wired and taped jewelry pieces one at a time. The hydrangea acts as a spacer and it fills in any gaps between the jewelry pieces so you cannot see the wires. The hydrangea will be completely covered when you are done with your bouquet. Rotate the bouquet as you insert the brooches while maintaining a pleasing domed shape
7.jpg

After you have added all the wired brooches and have the bouquet in a shape you like, gather all the wire ends tightly together and wrap with the corsage tape to form the handle of the bouquet.

Thanks for the shout out...I love to make monograms and printables!

You did a great job posting all of your DIY projects...you have inspired lots of DISBrides!

One quick question on your centerpiece...you mentioned that you used flowers, but did you use a feather boa or individidual feathers around the bottom of your flowers? I hope I didn't miss reading that step.

No your right I did forget that part :rotfl: I used the same feather trim that I used for the bouquet. I will update on how to do this thanks for letting me know :thumbsup2

Love the step-by-steps, Vicki, thanks!!!

I keep looking at your brooch bouquet and am trying to think if I should make one for SOMETHING?! Perhaps my photoshoot? :lmao: They're just so pretty and unique.

Thanks it was really fun to make though by the end I wanted rip my hair out lol! Why not make one just because :) they make great heirlooms. I used brooches from my grandmother mom and aunt as well as scott's mom and grandmother. They really connect the families in a special way. I am hoping one day if I have a daughter she might incorporate it her wedding someday:thumbsup2

I don't have the groom top hat ears, because Scott refuses to wear them, so I am on my own, lol he is wearing the buttons though and we ordered him a Disney Groom shirt from zazzle :thumbsup2

I also got the rest of my bridal shower outfit in and my hair flower for the wedding. The shower theme is tea party so I think I did pretty good :)

My DF kind of rolled his eyes when I told him I wanted him to wear them. He asked if he had to wear them the whole trip, and I told him just the day after we get married (or our first day back in the parks after the wedding).

Nope you aren't the only one, we should start a club and revolt! :rotfl: We shall make them participate!!! Thanks for the compliment :thumbsup2

I agree! I bought Just Married buttons as a compromise. :goodvibes

Oh Brian refuses to NOT wear them :rotfl2:

And I don't know how I didn't see it before, but I just saw your flower and its BEAUTIFUL. I LOVE it!!!

DF is not the biggest Disney fan, in fact I'm surprised he agreed to a Disneyland wedding (His response when I brought it up: "Well, I'm sure I won't HATE it.")

So I figured I should be grateful for what I have and not push it! :lmao: I'm gonna bring up the shirt idea though. I think it's just the ears he has an issue with.

Maybe when he sees me in my bride ears he'll feel left out and want his own :rolleyes1

Yay, so exciting when you get packages and new things! Do you know if they still carry the wedding ears in Disney? We were just planning on buying them when we get there in DTD. I don't really care about the headband/hat or the tuxedo/top hate, I just want them and want to make sure we can just get them when we get there!

They still carry wedding ears I do believe, just not the sequins Bride headband and the Top Hat ears. They have an ear cape with a crown and veil on it for the Bride and the tuxedo cape ears for the groom. So unless you have a preference you could just wait until you get there :)

Just an FYI they actually still have the headband sequin bride ears. I purchased them when I was down there in December. =]

and I think my DF is the only one who actually can't wait to wear his tuxedo ears! lol. He's a nut.. he doesn't like the top hat ones for some reason? I actually prefer them. But oh well..

I wanna say they are just phasing out the top hat- but I could see them doing that to the bridal headband ears as some point since they have the new matching styles!

I was so paranoid that they top hat wouldn't fit DF, it fits, just doesn't look extremely comfortable... haha I told him he will have to make them fit, and he will wear them!! LOL... those cost me too much money to NOT wear them! :)

But I am not controlling at all... :rolleyes1

I checked at the online store and they don't carry the sequins headband ears just the other ones I guess they might still have them in the parks, but they could be phasing them out just like the Top Hats I am not sure, they should have some kind of hat for the bride and groom for you. You just went in December??? Where's your trip report girl??? :goodvibes
