Scott Joseph gave Narcoosee's a good review!

Thanks for posting the review. That tuna and shrimp dish looks amazing, simple but perfect execution. I might have to get that instead of the lobster in a few days!

Scott must be losing it--
Narcoossee's is at the bottom of my Signature restaurant list.

I'd put Narcoossee's above Flying Fish, Le Cellier's new dinner, and Brown Derby, and I've eaten at all of them several times. It's just an opinion difference.

He does acknowlege it's been bad in the past. I would go the other way, I haven't been there in almost 2 years, and it was good last time we went. Maybe it went downhill and now is back!

Hey thanks, was a great read, and helped ease my mind since this is one of the places my family is going too!
But that seared tuna really looks like sashimi from his picture. Not a huge fan. lol

I just managed an ADR for October with DSis. I think we'll like it. Thanks for the post!

psac:
We ate there in May (with another couple who were the ones who wanted to go) and trust me--it's not back.

Donald: True enough--an opinion difference. And his is read by a much wider audience than mine!!

Haha I understand. And I know that my opinions are in the minority regarding Narcoossee's and Flying Fish. Sometimes I convince myself that I'm crazy for not seeing what everybody else does in Flying Fish, yet every time it's the same thing. :confused3

I think this restaurant has improved but it is still near the bottom signature wise (along with Yachtsman). The tuna was very good last time we were there...avoid the rubber lobster at all costs!

Grrr...got really excited there for a time when I was reading the review and then read the posts following. You all are kill-joys :goodvibes I keep going back and forth wanting to book Citricos (which we love) and Narcoossee's, which we have yet to try. One of my goals is to try new restaurants each time we visit WDW, and Narcoossee's is the only signature in the MK resort area we haven't done yet. I'm really torn...don't want to regret not trying it, dont want to regret trying it.
When we stayed at the GF, our room was so close to Narcoossee's you could almost touch it and each night sitting on our patio had our mouths watering from the smell of the kitchen so close by! That memory keeps drawing me in.

N.B. that Mr. Joseph (and I do trust his Orlando-area reviews, in the main) didn't review Narcoosee's on his own stick or his own dime. This was a special press event:

The appetizer was a sampler of three that are offered individually (the grouping was a special serving for the media dinner I attended).

In other words, the kitchen staff went all out to impress this group. Any WDW restaurant manager without his or her head in a fog knows Scott Joseph on sight.

I think you should try it. If you go there once and don't like it, you never have to bother again. Or, you could really like it. I personally like it more than Flying Fish (which people rave about here, especially compared to Narcoossee's), and I think most of the menu is really good (I would stay away from the surf and turf).

Having been to Narcoossee's countless times, it has had it's ups and downs. I think my experiences have partially been lucky, and maybe even a bit biased, but I've always held Narc's in higher esteem than many here on the DIS.

Scott Joseph's reviews may be more well-read, but I trust Uncle R's opinions more!

I won't go back there. We dined there with the same 3 adults in the party twice in the past three years and both times were lackluster. The food was good, but the service sucked both times. Way too long of waits between courses; the first time the server did not enter my appetizer and it came out 10 minutes later than the other two-then she denied it; never filled up empty water glasses or soda and drinks. Blah forget it-the place is busy because of the view every night!

To be fair, we have not been back to California Grill either after several poor services and hour and a half waits to be seated.

I'm just the opposite, I place it near the top of my Signature restaurant list. :goodvibes

Ahhhh, I knew sooner or later it would happen; we share the same opinion when it comes to a WDW restaurant. I agree with you. :rotfl:

What BGK points out (and I missed that entirely:)) may have more than just a bit to do with the grand review---

And to point out that I don't think Narcoosee's is a "BAD" restaurant--it just isn't that good when compared to the other Signatures.

Definitely a matter of opinion.....
We had our 25th wedding anniversary dinner there back in November and all of us LOVED the food, atmosphere and service was great! 3 of us had the surf & turf and our lobsters were just fine - and coming from New England - we know good lobster! Now, I'm sure this restaurant (like any other) can have some "not-so good" nights from bad service to some not-so good entrees - it happens. But based on our experience...we would definitely dine here again! :)
