I stalk the website because I’m odd. I have 66 points burning a hole in my pocket. This morning I casually check and a standard studio at the poly pops up for the first weekend in May. I jump on it! Bad news though. I check air and it’s astronomical for my dates. I wanted to finally take dd, 18 for her HS grad trip, just me and her, but not sure I can justify $1600 in air for three nights away. Thoughts? Fiscal responsibility or take advantage of this unicorn reservation?

Do it! This is a once in a lifetime event for your Daughter. I’m sure you both will have an amazing time!

Do it! I once flew to Disneyland after a 12 hour night shift, met my wife there(she was there for work) stayed in the parks until 3AM Eastern time, slept in the airport and flew home at 7 am. No regrets!

Also, book a refundable flight and then stalk for cheaper ones over the next few weeks. Flights usually drop the closer you get to the fly date.

If you can make it work without putting yourself in financial trouble, then go! If you’re responsible 95% of the time, isn’t the point of all that responsibility to be able to be frivolous at least once in a while?

I agree - you should go, unless the expense will mean you can't pay the mortgage or something equally important.

They’re basically paying you to go. Go.

after the past 2 years we have learned life is short and nothing is guaranteed. I’d book it in a heartbeat.
For better or worse, this explains why openings are at a premium and most decent resorts are able to dramatically inflate their pricing in Orlando this year.

Seriously, putting a crimp in my travel budget. Finding myself booking many WDW trips via CRO & offsite for ‘last minute-4 or 5 month out trips’ as availability just isn’t there

:wizard: that the pent up demand does normalize

OP if Airfare is the stumbling block for you, play with the dates and perhaps add on a date via a split trip on either side of trip if airfare is more reasonable.

not sure of what carriers are available in ur market but, consider all that service that rout

I cancelled. I just couldn’t pay $800 for a two hour flight I can usually get for $300-$400. There is a difference in being able to pay for something and it making sense to pay the exorbitant fare. I guess frugality wins out. Heck, I don’t even buy cereal or potato chips at full price. I’m looking at three nights end of May/early June where I can bring all three kids for less money than it would have cost for just dd and me.

No, you definitely should not go or spend that much money. Give me the point and reservations and I will take care of them for you. :D

AWWW, doggone it!

But, I certainly understand feeling you need to be responsible now and hold off on frivolity until a more appropriate time.

Maybe a spa indulgence for you and the DD once you do return to the magic?

Put an alert on google flights. Flights are all over the place right now, with oil prices.

We are heading to a wedding outside Orlando in October the week before Halloween and flights for my family of 5 were around $2000.00 which is normal pricing, so prices might be going back to somewhat normal after this summer. We are heading to WDW in April right after Easter, and the price of our flight has more than doubled since we first booked it.

Sigh. I’m sorry, but I understand. Glad there’s the possibility of May/June instead.

We have a trip booked in mid June and flight prices have gone up nearly $200 per ticket since I first started looking a couple weeks ago. The flight tracking apps I use say they expect prices to go down so I’m holding off on buying. I hope they are right and I don’t end up doing the same as you and canceling our trip over the principle of paying so much for a flight to Orlando. I’d rather go to Paris if I’m going to have to pay $800/ ticket.
