Hi, I'm new to the Universal Boards. We are going to Universal the first week in November. I have RA and I have difficulity walking and I tire easily. Does anyone know how much scooter rental is? Is it easy to get around at HP? We won't be going late. Thanks

I saw several scooters from several rentals. Best is to ask on the disability board. They are more familiar with the places to rent from, and cost. You will not be alone. I have seen scooters, wheelchairs, knee scooters, and strollers. I hope you have a great time.

Universal is fine with mobility issues. Most of the time, you go through the line and either transfer or stay on. They have elevators where needed.

At Universal Studios and IOA you can rent one. The rental is at the park gates and it is a good walk from City Walk to the park entrances. Electric Mobility Vehicle rental is $ 50 and $ 70 for one with a Surry Top.

We are going to be there during Thanksgiving week. My mom just had a bilateral knee replacement last week. While she is doing awesome, she would feel better renting a scooter just in case she needs to sit and not walk. I called Guest Services the other day and rented one for each day we are there with no issues. It's $50 per day and you have to pick it up by 11:30am. You decide where you want to get it (i.e. Universal or Islands) and I just gave them my mom's name. It was almost too easy.

For both of you that have family members needing the scooters - I can't stress enough what Patch'sD said - you need to also consider how long the walk is to get IN TO the parks. If you are staying on property, you either walk into Citiwalk (a long walk) or you take the boat and go from Citiwalk in to the Park (another long walk). If you are coming in from off property, you can use the moving sidewalks until you get to Citiwalk, but it's a hike from there until either of the Park entrances.

Now I know that folks will come back and say - Hey...the walk is not that bad. And that may be totally true for someone with no mobility issues, but speaking as someone with feet problems (PF) and 2 arthritic knees, I can certainly tell you that the walk in to the park can be tough. However the walk at the end of the day is even tougher.

You may want to consider renting from an off site company. There's several that are reputable (we're fans of Walker, but that's personal opinion). And - usually the off property rentals can save a couple of bucks. Your family member would also have the benefit of having the scooter at the hotel.

Just something to consider.

Dream Finder the one question I have is how would I get the scooter to the park? I'll be with my daughter and her family and there is no way we can take a scooter with us

You could also send an advance team member into the park and get the scooter and bring it out to them. My wife needed one and she used it until the Valet parking exit and then I brought it back.

We are in the same boat. We are staying off site and there is no way a Scooter would fit into my car. Luckily my mom will be 7 weeks post op and should be okay to make the walk from the car through City Walk to the parks. I've done the walk before and it is okay. If not I will have her sit and I will go and get the Scooter and bring it over to her :)

Walker Mobility had the best service and prices 1-800-SCOOTER

There are a few wheelchairs at the security checkpoint that you can use to get to the gate.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I may have my daughter go ahead and get the scooter for me if there are no wheel chairs available

I don't think the park scooters are allowed in Citywalk, so she wouldn't be able to bring it out of the park area.

Oh Ok. Well I will just do the best that I can. I should be fine. I will take my time and stop when I need to

Rent an offsite scooter and have it delivered to your hotel. You can either ride it along one of the paths to and from the parks, or take the ferry. Plus you'll save about $20 :-)

As an FYI for anyone unfamiliar with using scooters, you can rent scooters that break down into three parts and will easily fit in the trunk of a car. We've done it when staying offsite.

I agree. The scooters break down into smaller sections to fit in a car trunk and the rental place will show you how to do it. I would call and talk with one. They will be able to give you dimensions.

I have personally rented from Walker (LOVE Walker) while staying on property at Universal. My sister took the boat or walked the path with me from the hotel to the park. I "scooted" along the beautifully landscaped path. It takes about 10 minutes and wham-bam - you are in Citiwalk (depending on which hotel you are staying at).
Actually - this is how I discovered that I needed to bring gloves in February - it was COLD in the mornings for my hands on the tiller.

If you are staying off property, several of the vendors have models that break down in to several manageable parts which will fit in your vehicle.
After doing this for a while, we can break down the scooter in under 2 minutes and put it together in about 5 minutes. As Pridemom says - you can call and talk to the various vendors. Several will also have videos on their website to show you how it all works.
