I have some Friends making a trip next spring staying on Disney property, and would like to give them the most recent info.

Any updates on Scooterbug's product/service. I noticed that they now are cheaper than others, and wondering if anyone has any recent (like in the last 3-4 months) experience.

I have used GOLD for past several years (loved them, but not so much the delivery/pickup). Before that, I always liked the resort delivery options of Scooterbug... but my last experience with them (years ago) was pretty rotten. Wondering if they have cleaned up their act at all.
Scooterbug has an F rating (last I checked) with the Better Business Bureau for a reason. Honestly Gold will meet you on your schedule. We once had to leave DH’s scooter with bell services while eating because of rain issues and the restaurant didn’t have space inside for it, it honestly took more time to pick it up from them than we ever have had to wait for Gold Mobility, which was only once and only because we each miscommunicated with each other our location due to our unfamiliarity of All Star Sports.

I want to clarify my usual choice of renting from Gold vs Scooterbug - because it certainly is NOT that I think Scooterbug is bad - I just think Gold fits my needs better in all but 1 aspect (delivery has to be in-person). The differences between the 2 vendors may or may not matter to people.
Scooterbug's primary benefit is that they deliver direct to the resort and you simply pick your scooter up from Bell Services whenever you arrive. 1.You'll have it right away. 2. Slower machines for new or inexperienced users. 3. Decent battery life.

Gold's benefits are - 1. Much better maintained machines. They look newer and in most instances are newer 2. Faster machines. 3. Really great battery life.4. Accessories such as fans & charging ports included.

I've had great customer service from both vendors.

No, I haven’t, but that dramatic of a jump in a few months makes me begin to question BBB ratings..

You made almost the same comment back in Dec.2021. Leads one to think you just don’t like the company and a long-ago issue has gotten stuck in your mind.

That's funny because Scooterbug had an F- just a couple of months ago, so I have no clue what they did to fix their rating, but it makes me question the BBB ratings.

Actually, I went back then in 2021 and looked again and they did have an F rating for their Orlando location and I tried to post a link to demonstrate that, as I recall the link was prohibited for whatever reason, their other locations and corporate had better ratings, which is what people were seeing back in 2021.

And honestly, NO I do not like scooter bug, they have done me wrong way too many times when I had to use them prior to Gold being around, so yes, there is indeed a bias, I will admit it, but when they cost me an extra $300 because they wouldn’t deliver what they promised, i.e. a working scooter, I do tend to hold a grudge and I do hold a bias as a result. They are one of the few companies that even DH truly wishes would go bankrupt and close down forever. They can’t even keep the in park scooters maintained well enough to prevent injuries, yes before DH had his own scooter, he rented one at Disneyland and got injured because of improper maintenance on the scooter’s motors and braking system. So, there are definitely reasons why there is such a bias and no, they will not overcome that one.

Many of the complaints are battery issues holding a charge. Competitors replace the batteries more often. Scooterbug limits the speed, another source of complaints.

Cosmetic issues suggest the company waits longer then competitors to replace them. That suggests possible reliability issues.

Competitors are more generous with accessories. Fans, captains chair, cell phone holder, drink folder etc.

I don't agree with you. The complaints aren't cosmetic
Your complaint is speed and holding charges, and if you paid attention I did say I had an issue and they took care of that in a timely manor. Now your saying cosmetic and what a surprise what can I get for free. All the companies that rent EVC have had most of the same issues, Scooterbug is probably the one company that is used more in DW because of the convenience which would mean more complaints.

Scooterbug wouldn't be in business if all the scooters had the issues reported on DIS.

I used Scooterbug once. A short stay for the AP preview of Tron

The battery barely lasted the day. The scooter was slow on hills.

Bell service delivery is.a plus. I don't agree with other posters. I give some booking preference to Swan....due to the availability of bell delivery with multiple vendors.

Edited to add Googles rating of Gold is 4.9, scooterbug is 4.5.
Many Golds 1 * reviews are bogus. A complaint about price from a non renter is bogus, JMO.

1. With regard to BBB scooter vendor ratings: People tend to report NEGATIVE things at a much higher rate than positives - especially to the BBB. If an experience with their scooter is perfect - it's not likely that gets reported anyplace with the frequency that negatives are. That's to be expected. What's key however, is keeping in mind that simply because people have bad experiences with Company ECV that everyone will have a bad experience. It is also extremely proportional to the amount of machines rented by any given company. The more units rented, the higher the chance for an issue.
2. Posting on public forums is meant to share experiences with others regarding their own experiences. As a reader, we should always keep in mind that one person's negative experience does not in any way mean everyone will have a negative experience. Obviously the same is true for positive experiences.
3. My personal preference for scooter rental is Gold mobility because the scooters are generally reliable, go faster, have a fan and USB port, have very comfortable seats and good customer service when there are issues. A major negative for me is having to do meet and greet to obtain and return the unit. When that is important (late flight or somewhere I want to be before I can arrange a pick up - I will without hesitation rent from Scooterbug. My preference is not a reason for others to rent from Gold. Providing the reasons why I choose Gold is much more helpful (IMO)

Well, I’ll say again that my mom’s first experience renting a scooter was with Scooterbug in Orlando while at Disney over 10 years ago and she wishes they serviced other places we go. She has NEVER had an issue with anything—uses them at both Disney and Universal.
I laugh at the people and the complaints or desire for “cosmetic” stuff. Those are the same people bent on booking expensive airport transfer services because of the “luxury” vehicles. 🙄 as long as it gets the job done efficiently, I don’t care if the paint is scratched, there’s a mark on the “leather” or it’s faded.

Also, I find it funny that I did NOT add a link to my post but once I submitted I saw it was blue. Clicked and it took me to a different scooter company. Thanks DIS for using MY posts to farm you some kickbacks.

I don't have an issue with cosmetic issues BUT beat up scooters suggest they have been rented for an extended period of time. Those scooters are more likely to have battery issues. I'd have no big issue if the.battery was replaced in the last 6 months.

Not just scooters and not just DIS. Annoying when your post looks a recommendation for a site you may not be familiar with. Might not even like

Their current BBB rating is A+. A few years ago Scooterbug, Orlando, had multiple BBB listings. The F rating was for an old location.

Moderators, rightly, didn't want to figure out which was accurate.

I've had good experiences with Gold. My experience with Scooterbug was OK.

Bellhop delivery is great. I've used Golds bell services delivery at the Swan and valet at Universal resorts.

Have rented from Scooterbug many times - I visit about 3-4 times per year. Have never had any sort of problem at all. ECVs were not "beat up" but were in good shape. Scooterbug has been great responding to several last minute resort change requests. Super fast email response. Just returned from a last minute (1 day advance) trip. First, Scooterbug was able to accommodate my last minute rental request. The ECV was waiting at the resort as always. This time, for the first time, I had a slight equipment issue. I noticed that my charging cord had a slightly bent ground-prong on the plug. Sorry, don't know the technical name for it. I was able to plug it in, but because that prong was slightly bent, I had to finesse it a bit. I phoned Scooterbug, who answered the phone immediately. They promised to deliver a new cord and told me that I would be notified when it had arrived. Precisely 17 minutes later I received a text message advising that new cord had been left at bell services (accompanied by a photo of the cord lying on the bell services desk). 17 minutes? Awesome service. I'll continue to use Scooterbug.

Current Scooterbug and Gold Mobility on Better Business Bureau pulled around 2pm on 8/27/2024. I look at BBB periodically and don't recall ever seeing an F rating for Scooterbug

Some of the complaints for Scooterbug were from locations other than Florida . All of the recent complaints were satisfactorily settled. (One was refunded 1 cent less than what they were charged, so reported they were not given a "full refund")

Thanks for the update, Sue. I used them originally due to the convenience, but did have some issues... they did respond pretty quickly, but it left a bad taste. I may try them eventually again. Can't beat pick up and delivery!
