My db had hip replacement surgery and it looks like he will not be able to walk our usual distances at DLR and may not be able to get in and out of some rides.

I am looking into rental options--I see there are some hotels that have scooters to rent. What is available at GCH and how does it work? Thanks so much--a lot to figure out here.

The only company allowed to drop off at any of the on-site Disney hotels is Scooterbug. You set the time that you want to it to be ready for you at Bell Services and what time you will return it to Bell Services. It is very easy! Enjoy!

I have done quite a bit of research into this as I too need a scooter. Scooterbug is the only company that can deliver to Disney hotels but they are expensive. I am going to need a scooter for 9 days so I found a company that the longer you hire the cheaper it gets. This is One Stop Mobility who are located in the Camelot Inn Hotel lobby on Harbour Boulevard and just across the street from the main Disney concourse. They get very good reviews. We have an arrival non park day so I am just going to stroll slowly through Downtown Disney and pick up my scooter then drive it back to the hotel (staying at Disneyland Hotel Villas). The last time we were there (stayed at Howard Johnson) I hired from Select Mobility Scooter Rental who are located in the foyer of the Best Western Plus Park Place Inn directly across from the traffic lights for the main Disney concourse. The scooter was clean and I never had any trouble with it at all, it had excellent battery life and lasted a full day in the parks. I would hire from them again this time but they are more expensive that One Stop and I am trying to save a few pennies here and there. Hope this helps.

I REALLY like Select Scooter located in the BWPPI lobby.
I have rented from them too many time to keep count.
I like that their scooters are newer and so well maintained. Battery life in the parks all day and into the night is so important. Never had an issue and I'm sure if I did they'd promptly take care of it.

I see Deckerts has closed down. Anyone know if they are operating under a new name? I really liked the service and the scooters that didn’t have a speed control preset.

For your next trip try Select Scooter in the BWPPI lobby.
Their scooters have a speed control knob. You can dial the speed you want to go.
I will use the slow setting for in the park. For empty walkways outside the park I dial it up to a faster speed.

Thank you, yes I don’t want to be a speed demon just keep up with walkers.

I'm following up here as my db's Dr. says he can do some walking at DLR but not the usual steps so he is renting a scooter.

Are there any places I can go to read about how to manage a scooter ie where to park it and what is the right protocol? Or can you give me information/suggestions? He can walk...just not very far.

Where do we park for rides? And what will we do for our RDZ F! reservation? Any and all information welcome. Thank you!

For space mtn, jungle cruise, and Indy, when my husband had an ECV, we went through the exit. Each ride can be different and all the CMs were wonderful about explaining where he needed to go and what to do, etc. At DCA, all the queues are ECV and wheelchair friendly. And he just stayed on the ECV until instructed to park it. Again, everyone was fantastic about explaining what he needed to do. We asked for a location return time (or had a lightning lane) at the attractions.

You can also email guest services ahead of time and they can walk you through what to expect. We were there last year and I’m not sure if everything is the same. When I emailed about it, someone actually called me and walked me through it. Here is a link to the location return time that we used since we did not need DAS, but he needed more time to load or unload. https://disneyland.disney.go.com/guest-services/accessing-attractions/

At space mtn they will ask if he needs extra time to load. My husband had ACL surgery and for sure needs extra time on space. It’s hard for him to bend and get into the car quick enough since that ride loads so fast. You get to load in the car off the tracks and then they move the train over to the main track. It’s pretty neat!

You will find a sea of scooters along with the strollers in many place.
The scooters all look pretty much the same. So finding yours can be a challenge. Especially if for some reason a CM moves it, which can happen.

I have learned to bring an identifying item to tie on to the handlebar of the scooter.
I have a 1 inch wide by 12 inch long lime green ribbon I got from the fabric store.

Before I began using the ribbon I went into one of the Disney stores and got a small bag that I could tie on the handle bar.

I'm taking a specific red Christmas tinsel with me to decorate my rental ECV this time. Not only will it get me into the holiday spirit but hopefully it will help me identify my scooter.

Thank you both for the suggestions for identifying the scooter--I wouldn't have thought of that and I'll definitely bring something--and @crystal1313 I really appreciate the detailed response--super helpful.

I love how some people have their scooters and strollers, even walkers, all decorated with lights for Christmas...looks so festive!

Select Scooter is the best and will meet you to drop off and pick up. Scooterbug stinks and I hate that they are the only ones that can leave a scooter at a Disney hotel.

No problem! We had never needed to use an ECV before and had no idea what to expect. But it really was a good experience for us. The location return time was so helpful. That in combination with lightning lanes really helped and limited the amount of time my husband needed to stand or walk. Some rides he would choose to walk. For instance, we didn’t do the location return time for big thunder. I’m not sure why, as he had to walk up the stairs in the queue. And because he couldn’t bend his knee very much, he needed to sit alone in his row on the ride. My husband was a bit stubborn about the fact that he needed an ECV during this trip. Lol. But he was glad to have one as he was exhausted. We visited about a month and a half after his surgery.

Hopefully you have enough time to email Disney too! I was shocked they called me, was not expecting that at all!

Have a fun trip!

Can you say what makes them stink. They are a lot more convenient for us given our arrival timing so knowing the specifics will help make our decision. Thank you

Sure. Last April I used them in Disneyland and the scooter wasn't fully charged when I picked it up. It was old and slow. Recently I used them in WDW and same thing, the scooter was old, the key wasn't working and I had to call them and get a new key before I could even use the scooter, it was slow and didn't hold a charge well at all. I am done with Scooterbug. I will just meet whoever I use from now on (at a Disney Hotel). Luckily when staying off site, Select can just leave it!

I understand the convenience of Scooterbug for GCH. I hope it works for you. However, you might want to have the contact info of other places in case you are not satisfied.

As mentioned Select Scooter is right across the street from Disneyland.
Here is a map showing it's only a few minutes from GCH.

Enjoy your time in the parks!!
