OK, might be be taking my mom to WDW next year and even though she a relatively young woman by today's standards, she does not look after herself and will need a scooter or wheelchair.

Concern about a scooter is is is costly and she only needs it for the parks so I do not want to rent one from the outside compnay and have to worry about the buses. Also she doesn't drive her care well so I am not sure she can drive it.

Any advice?

I suggest that you post the same question over on the disABILITIES! board. I think the people there will be able to give you a lot more feedback on scooters.

I rented an EVC from an outside medical company in Orlando (Care Medical Equipment.) for my mother in law. Let me say it was well worth every penny. ($275 for 10 days) She had never been to Disney before and said she could do without it.:rolleyes1 Care Medical delivered the scooter to bell services at our hotel on our arrival day, and picked it up from Bell Services on our departure day.

We stayed at POFQ, so I didn't think that she would need the EVC outside of the parks, but it was cheaper than renting from Disney. My husband would drive the scooter on the bus for her. But other than that she had no trouble with it.

If you are concerned about her being able to operate it, she can go to Walmart and try out their courtesy EVC. They are not the same, but this would give her a feel for driving it. Walmart is a good place to practice because there is always people and stuff to navigate around.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Great advice about Walmart!! Still a little concerned about the bus, typically I already have 2 sleeping pre-schoolers and a stroller.

That's how grandma rolls.

If she is afraid about driving on to the the bus; you are someone else in your party can drive the ECV on the bus

My Mom used a scooter when we went in December and we used the buses. The drivers are very patient. My Mom doesn't use the scooter usually but at WDW it's a must. She had a little difficulty with the buses but everyone was patient and the drivers are used to it.

We also had an 8, 6, and 4 year old with us and a stroller and we never had a problem.

My Mom couldn't do WDW without a scooter and she actually ended up buying one before she went down with my DB and DSIL. She figured it was cheaper to actually buy one than to rent it. She's now been twice with the scooter so it's worked out.

My Mom can't walk long distances so it was great to have it at the resort as well as in the parks. It can be a long walk around the resort. The baskets she had on the scooter also came in handy. :goodvibes
