I am a first time, and very anxious scooter user (due to PAD), visiting Disneyworld on 3/26. I am renting from Walker's.
What do you do if it rains on you and your rental scooter while at WDW? Of course, you seek shelter, but if it keeps raining and you must leave the park, will the scooter keep running if wet? How difficult is it to get the scooter onto the bus? I've read about backing onto the bus lift as opposed to going forward. I've also read about the gap you must conquer to get on the ferry or the monorail. It all sounds indimidating to me!! Please someone tell me it isn't all that difficult!!!!!! Or give me advice! thank you.

I don't know if they still do it, but I know Walker used to provide a clear shower cap in a plastic bag to put over the control module in case it rains. Basically the ECVs are weatherproof, but there are a lot of electronics inside the control module. Driving through puddles is not a problem; just don't try to ford a stream.

Often in the rain I will wear a poncho. the ront will go over the handlebars and the back will drape over the seatback. This works to keep me (and the ECV) both pretty dry.

Most of the buses have ramps now and you can go on forward. The ferry boats (MK/TTC) do not have any gaps. The friendshios (Epcot/Epcot Resorts/MGM) and the monorails have special plates that will be put down as ramps over the gaps.

Ity is not difficult at all; the drivers are trained and will help.

If you haven't already checked it out, you may want to check out the disABILITIES FAQs thread near the top of the board.

Thanks so much for your info. I feel much better now about my trip and first time scooter use at the parks.
