I can't find anything specific on this on faa website. Does anyone know if scissors are allowed. I have a 3 1/2 year old who loves to cut and could be kept very busy with these. TIA, Julie

She should be okay as long as she doesn't run with them. ;)

On our last trip to DW in December. I knew my carryon had at least one pair of kids type scissors in them. (ended up having two pairs; one of each bag) Those bags went through fine and they weren't even the blunt kind.

Now my 12yo DD gets her school backpack pulled for extra screening. We asked what was wrong with the bag so we could give them whatever they wanted and speed things up. They couldn't tell us and my daughter didn't remember having anything weird in the bag. Well here there is a small pocket on the inside of the bag (WAYY DOWN) that had her school scissors in it. She has a pair that were a little longer than the ones I had (they weren't even full size or hair scissor sized). But apparently they didn't want them on the plane in carryon. Since they were a cheap pair ($2-3) We just let them keep the scissors.

Strange standards.....

My DD got pulled for extra bag check on the way back from MCO too.... They just looked at everything (Took her brand new, still in box with reciept, because we bought it like 5 minutes prior to getting in line, SWATCH watch apart and everything.)

Next trip we're not letting her carry any bags through since she appears to look dangerous or something. Gotta watch those 12yo's.

Your story reminded me of when my older two were toddlers. We always brought a character backpack like Barbie or Winnie the Pooh and were constantly getting stopped for extra screening on these backpacks. Finally we asked a screener what triggered it and were told that is was because these bags had no visible identification tags. Of course we promptly put name tags on them, but we always joked that there must be some specific threat regarding character backpacks!!

But apparently they didn't want them on the plane in carryon. Since they were a cheap pair ($2-3) We just let them keep the scissors.

Did you have any other choice? I'm assuming that you had already checked your luggage.

Yes everything that could be checked was checked.... (the security line was long so it wasn't like we had just left the counter either.)

I didn't have an empty bag to check (my carryon had important papers/medicines, my purse was definately staying with me, DD had her books to work on homework, and DH had spare sets of clothes/toilitries in his)
