Yes you can but its a $1.50 extra charge if I remember right

It is no wonder there is confusion within restaurants, resorts, etc. With everyone's personal experiences shared here (which I believe to be the truth) we have SEVERAL different answers. Yes, but you have to pay. Yes, and it is free. No, if you are on the dining plan. Yes, if you are on the dining plan. Can't Disney figure out how to be consistent!
that it works out how you need it to.Yes you can but its a $1.50 extra charge if I remember right
Basically, they are supposed to charge an up-charge for the substitution but you may get a waiter/waitress that doesn't charge and gives them to you for no additional charge. If that happens, leave a little extra in the tip.

Yes they will substitute, and you don't have to pay for the upcharge if you are on the dining plan. Been there, Done that, have the tshirt to prove it.![]()

. Instead of forking out all of those dollars for the appetizer we sub onion rings for our steak fries for an extra 99 cents each. Even ask for the side sauces too. You get five rings if you substitute, then you ask for a refill of fries after you have chowed down on some rings. The servers are happy to provide the fries refill. So you get ten onion rings for $1.98 and then the fries too. The best of both worlds, just have to wait for your burger to arrive to enjoy the fries.
This reminds me of Red Robin. If you don't know Red Robin, they are mainly on the west coast, but have moved in to other markets in the east. They have the best burgers around, I mean the best. They are also known for their bottomless steak fries.
They sell an onion ring appetizer for 6.99 or 7.99, you get a tower of thirteen wonderful onion rings with BBQ ranch and ranch sauces on the side for dipping.. Instead of forking out all of those dollars for the appetizer we sub onion rings for our steak fries for an extra 99 cents each. Even ask for the side sauces too. Doesn't sound like the SciFi is as good of a deal if they up-charge though. Psst, don't tell anyone what I just mentioned about Red Robin, it is a Dis secret.![]()

Uh, last time I checked, Red Robin doesn't have 60,000 employees at any one location, the third-largest bus system in the state, and nighttime fireworks spectaculars. Yeah, that's what you're paying for when you stay at the Grand Floridian for $450, or pay $32 a day to park-hop, get the onion ring appetizer at Sci-Fi for $6.99 or sub it for $1.50. I can't help but laugh whenever people compare the outside world to Disney World. It's not apples and oranges, folks. It's apples and orchards.![]()
