SciFi Dine In - Is it really that bad??!!

I have to say that I disagree about it being okay if you don't have "fine dining expectations". We went in expecting fast food quality and it was worse than your average Burger King, in our opinions. I ordered onion rings, hamburger, fries, milkshake, and nothing was very good, not even the milkshake. The dessert I had was just nasty. We loved the atmosphere but that's not enough to ever get us back in the door again.

Sorry you had such a bad experience. We were told by many people how horrible it was and how disappointed they were at the food. Many of those we spoke to thought that it would be finer dining in relation to the cost. I guess we hit it on a good day.

I love the place, and will go again. But they brought me a cold burger....next time I'll send it back.... (it was cooked, but had gotten cold before they broght it out...I just ate it because I was so hungry) pirate:

My wife liked her ruben, nice sandwhich

i enjoyed sci fi , i didn't go with high expectations
i loved the atmosphere, the cars and the food was good, it wasn't great but i would definately return again and may when we leave in the week ahead...
it's a fun dining experience give it a try.popcorn::

We have eated there a few times and really enjoyed it there.

IMHO cold food is never acceptable. Totally understand about not wanting to deal with it though (for many reasons)

It always amazes me when a place has such a wide variety of reviews. ANd this place always has a diverse oinion from best burger ever to it was the most horrible place we ate. No clue why, but would love to know why

My son and I ate there in March, and the food was good. My son had a burger, and I had a reuben sandwich.

We went for lunch and were happy we did. The experience of sitting in a car watching trailers as if we were really at a drive-in was great. I ordered some type of chicken sandwich and they accidentally brought me the wrong kind - it was some type of barbecue chicken sandwich. It looked so good that I wanted to keep it and it WAS good. The milkshakes were so yummy, we would definitely do lunch there again.

We ate there last Sunday and had a good meal. We went for lunch and were the front of the car and the waiter was GREAT!! He introduced us to our "hitchhikers" and gave us tickets, etc. haha We both had a burger, I had fries and a shake and DH had the cucumer salad thing and a soda. He had the onion rings for the appetizer and I had the artichoke dip and it was VERY yummy!! I had the hot fudge sundae for dessert and it was delicious! It's not a gourmet meal there, but the atmosphere makes up for the food!! I thought our food was very good. :thumbsup2

We liked Sci-Fi and still sing the song Laaaambert the sheepish lion.... from the cartoons that were showing.

OMG!!! I looooved that cartoon when I was a kid! I have not seen it in YEARS!!! When did you go? Is it still playing there?

We have ADRs for Sci-Fi next THURSDAY!!! :woohoo: WOOHOO! We leave for WDW in 5 days! My mom, brother and sis-in-law have been to Sci-Fi and suggested we try it for our trip.

I never thought that the food was that bad. The themeing is really cool! I do like the food at Primetime better, but Sci-Fi is worth going to for the experience!:thumbsup2

We were just there for dinner on Sunday and we loved our dinners. My DH and I both had the reuben and it was great! My DM had the chicken sandwich with the cucumber/melon salad instead of fries and really enjoyed it. And the strawberry shake was awesome!

I also love Lambert, but it wasn't playing when we were there on 9/30.

Wonder if we had the same waiter (Scott), he was funny and did the same thing with the tickets and hitch hikers. We ate there on Saturday.

It's been years since we ate there prior to this trip. It wasn't bad. I had the tomato basil soup which was excellent actually. The chicken caesar salad would have been better if the chicken was not so dry. This was also the case with DH's chicken sandwich. It was also kinda dry. I had dressing to balance it out though. I didn't expect it to be great since we ate here years ago and it was just so-so. DH enjoyed is strawberry shake though and dd was pretty happy with her pizza. But I agree, it's a fun "change" and beats most of the counter service food.

I thought that Sci Fi Drive In had better food than 50's PTC. I liked the dining experience better at 50's PTC, but the food was better (IMO) at Sci Fi.

We're going to Sci Fi again this next trip.

We go strictly for the atmosphere.

It can be a lot of fun, especially if you get the right server.

Okay everyone, I am leaving in appx. 3 weeks for my first trip with my son, who is 4. :goodvibes I made reservations for us at Sci Fi for our MGM day, but after reading all of the bad reviews I am wondering if I should switch to either Prime Time or somewhere outside of MGM. I know that my son will get a real kick out of sitting and eating in one of the cars (and watching the trailers!), but I don't want to eat there if the food is as bad as some people are saying. I mean, I don't expect a gourmet meal, but for a table service meal I do expect the food to be edible. I know that you are going to get bad reviews some of the time, but it just seems like Sci Fi gets a great deal of them!:scared1:

So tell me....how bad is Sci Fi? Anyone have any good meals there lately???

We've had great meals there but we've only done lunch. The milkshakes are great as are the onion rings. We're pretty simple people for lunch though, my husband did try the ribs, he didn't care for them but only because it didn't like the sauce (it was coca-cola based) but he did say they were tender and not salty.

I thought the Sci Fi food was fine, but didn't think much of the cars and sci fi movies playing. Could have been done a lot better. I thought the food and service was just fine though. If your child would like dining in the cars....then this is a great option.

We have eaten there 3 times, lunch is definitely better! My DS & DH love the cars. Our waiter the first time was really helpful. We were on the DDP but were too full for dessert. He offered to put shakes in to go cups so we could take them with. We do that everytime now....

We've only had the burgers & they are very good. Never tried anything else. It may be too much for your son but even if he gets filled up with only part of it, it'd be better than chancing something that isn't as good.

The onion rings are good too.

It's the wide variety of people who inhabit these boards. There are large portions of this country where you can no longer find much other than chain restaurants. For example, if the only pizza you've ever eaten is Pizza Hut or Papa John's you probably have no idea what a good pizza actually tastes like. If your reference point for a restaurant steak is Applebee's you may not be that choosy. I'm going to guess there's no pit out back of the Sci-Fi where the ribs have been smoked all day but I wonder how many of their patrons get real BBQ at home or know what it's supposed to taste like?

I am amazed at the number of people who seem to go to the Sci-Fi for burgers. I feel like when I'm at WDW, every other day I'm having a burger at a CS place when we're trying to have a quick lunch. I think a burger would be the last thing I'd order at a TS place and if the burger is the highlight of the menu then I'd rather eat somewhere else, or once again grab a CS burger and save some time.
