Would love to try this place on our next trip, but is it really worth a table service credit???

My family loved it! It is truly a different experience especially for people who have never been to a drive in... I say give it a try...

I booked it for lunch with the intention of paying OOP. I can't see using a TS credit on it. Those are reserved for the LeCellier's, Narcoosees, and other such restaurants in the World.

What I am planning to do is for the four of us (3 adults and 1-11 yr old) is to use 2 dining credits for lunch at SciFi and then pay out of pocket for 2 burgers and drinks.

(with tax and tip I figure it will be about $32 - $11+$11+2.20+2.20X15%tip+6.5%tax = $32.07)

This way we get to enjoy the onion rings and articoke dip for appetizers and the cheesecake and cookie monster for dessert but not be overly full.

And then we'll do the same at 50's Prime time diner for dinner (but purchasing 2 chicken dinners instead :goodvibes )

I'm just trying to find the best use for all those credits.

My boys will tell you it was their favorite restaurant and have put it at the top of restaurants to return to next visit. That said, they loved ot for the atmosphere (very great- their eyes were wide the entire time! ) - NOT the food. They ordered off the kids choices and said everything had a weird taste. Ate nothing, finished the milkshakes. We will be going for a mid-day ice cream break and pay OOP. When you go make sure you ask (and wait for) a car- front seats. Its worth the extra wait.

We booked at Sci-fi with our dining package but we plan on paying for this meal out of our pockets since it's not very expensive. Then the other meal credits that are left will be used towards our HDDR. And for anyone thinking that this is cheating the system....NO is't not. I'm paying for my ADULT meals. Just want to clear this up before anything gets said.

We went in June for the first time. DH, myself and DD 6 and we loved it. However, if you get burgers and fries it is realtive inexpensive by Disney standards I think it was a little under $30.00 for the three of us, so you might want to save at least some of your credits.

I love it there we go back every year but I don't think that i would use a TS credit for it. My dh and I usually split the onion rings a burger and get our own milkshakes and are way to full. I don't think anyone could finish an appetizer, lunch and then desert there. the portions are huge.

We loved Sci-Fi! Food was delicious and the atmosphere was great! We used ts credits when we ate there. Our total would've been $90, so it wasn't a wasted credit!!

We're on the dining plan. Leaving in less than 3 weeks. We have an ADR there for a late lunch (like 3:25pm) and we are planning to pay out of pocket. It just isn't that expensive, especially at lunch.

We're doing HDDR also, so using our credits there and paying for this meal and Beaches & Cream out of pocket.

By the way, like others have said, my family LOVES this place. Yummy burgers and shakes and fun atmosphere. Plus, on a hot sunny day, it is so nice to be in the cool, dark atmosphere here :cold:

ENJOY!!! :flower:

The atmosphere's great, the food was really bad for us. Next time we're going to drop in for a milk shake and some fries, only.

Avoid at all costs the prime rib sandwich unless you want a mouthful of cold fat. Ewwww!

We ate at the Sci Fi Diner last week and I'd have to agree that there is too much food for anyone to eat if you don't share the TS credits. The onion rings and Spinach dip were great appetizers and the burgers and chicken sandwich were good too. (Just ate the chicken and toppings as there's so much food). For dessert, you could share too. The apple crisp was good.

Generally, there was too much food at all TS places for us. We Canadians aren't used to the huge portions and would'nt eat an appetizer, entree and dessert after walking in the heat and drinking the required amounts of water to stay hydrated! We shared after we learned day 2, unless we were at the buffets or Ohana's, Hoop dee Doo, character things etc.

***In my opinion, you'll save money regardless of whether you use credits at places like SCI FI diner. We go to Disney for the fun, not just the food. :cool1: We'd do the food plan again, but not agonize over it. ::MickeyMo

for the atmosphere ? maybe. for the food? bleccch no no no. ( unless of course you like waiting 1 hr 45 mins( including table wait with adr in a near empty restaurant at an off time) for a cold burnt hamburger then by all means do so)

Ditto to those who say pay OOP. Just get a sandwich and a shake and don't waste credits. It's a very neat place - just not a place you'd want to order a 3-course meal at.

We are doing this during free dining so we can double up and use the extra credits for the Hoop De Doo.

When my 13 DD and I were at WDW in May, Sci Fi was the only restaurant where we paid OOP and didn't use our Dining Plan credits. And I'm glad we made that decision. The burger was enormous, and we split it (the waitress seemed to almost expect that we would split it). My daughter enjoyed her chocolate shake. I had an iced tea. All together I think the meal was about $17. The food was quite good, and it was plenty for lunch.

But, the service was unbelievably slow - it didn't help when the waitress brought us the wrong bill and we then had to spend about 15 minutes trying to get her attention to let her know. If we had ordered appetizers and dessert as well as the burger, we'd probably still be sitting there! :rotfl2:

I agree. I wouldn't spend the credits there either although this is a must do for us. A nice dark cool place for lunch while the kids quietly watch the flicks hits the spot.

I'd recomend using 1 TS credit and split the onion rings which are huge and some of the best I've ever had. I actually like the kids grilled chicken breast for the DD's. A nice change from chicken fingers. :flower:

We went to the SciFi for lunch. We both had the chicken sandwich. The atmosphere was great. We both loved it. The food was the worst of the vacation. The chicken was dry and tough. I would not use a TS for the meal; use it for something else.
