Hi! I'm sitting here trying to decide where to eat on my first ever solo trip and at the Studios it's down to Mamma Melrose or Sci Fi for dinner. I'm not interested in Fantasmic really so that doesn't play a part, but would it be wierd eating at Sci Fi alone? Has anyone done it, how does that work lol!
I've got a hankering for the ribs and an ice cream sundae for dessert :goodvibes! Really, the menu just appeals to me more.
thanks!!

I haven't done it but if I found myself in that situation I definitely would dine solo at Sci-Fi. I know that it gets mixed reviews now, but when I went years ago I loved it. Plus, you are sitting in a drive-in theater - regardless of the food you can't change that. I say go for it - you'll have a blast!!

Hi Kristina, we are in the area 3 months and I will go to the parks by myself quite often if spouse is busy or working her 10hrs/week at Coronado Spring.

I have done Sci Fi alone several times as I do enjoy the old drive-in stuff and the food is pretty good. Also, I usually get seated very quickly.
What they usually do is put me in the back (third) seat of a car that has four folks in it. Before they seat me I will kind of butt in and say I am by myself and would it be OK if I sat back here. 99% of the time folks are more than friendly and say yes. Some will talk with you, some will not, but the back seat is kind of out of sight of the folks in front so it is almost like eating a separate table.
I have also been seated alone at one of the round tables in the back. They never seated me others at one of the tables, just in the 3rd seat of the car.

Good Luck and as PP said go for it you want to do Sci Fi...

Ted

I've travelled to Disney solo many times and would pick whatever menu appeals to you most. Disney is very good to their solo travellers and you'll have a good experience no matter what. I think the Sci Fi is a good option though, because it has the movies to entertain you.

The only place I wouldn't do solo again is Spirit of Aloha. They sat me at a table for 6 by myself and still brought out the portions for 6 people. I would have been much happier if they had asked if I'd like to share a table with another smaller group (as there were plenty there) and not felt so alone/like such a pig with 6 peoples worth of food infront of me and nobody to share it with. Obviously I didn't clear the plates, lol, but it's the only time in all my solo trips that I felt I was missing out on something. Ruined my evening to say the least.

I would choose Sci-Fi. The seats face forward towards a movie screen so you will have entertainment. The food is also very good. Of all the restaurants, this is probably set up the best for a solo traveler.

When they put you in a car as a solo, they will put you in the back (3rd seat) as the PP mentioned. They will call you a "hitchhiker" and claim that the rest of the family seated in rows 1 & 2 picked you up. Of course some of the families will find the humor in this, but some are just plain disgusted at the idea of allowing someone else in the car with them. Some will talk to you, some will not. And what this does to the psyche of the children who, in all other worldly exploits, are taught never to talk to strangers or pick up hitchhikers, is anyone's guess.

No matter how your carpool reacts, just face the screen and watch the movies. You're going for the atmosphere and AC, which on a hot, humid day is worth the price of admission alone.

Thank you everyone, I am going to see if I can book it! At first I thought oh, I'll just get the Quick Service dining plan because, I mean it would be wierd to eat by myself, right? I knew I'd have to do Crystal Palace because I just love that place but other than that? Then when I booked my package I told my TA that I wanted basic dining, thinking that basic was quick and regular was basic. Then I thought, how funny, I should just keep it! Sci Fi I've always enjoyed and so I'm looking forward to it! It's going to be a fun evening!

Grandpa Ted, you know I thought I'd ask to sit in the front of a car but that may be wierd if the rest of it is filled with one party. I didn't think of that, otherwise I've always felt like they are seperate tables. Hmmm. I also thought maybe I'd get a table in back but I think I want a car :). Lucky you that gets to go so often!

Sorry Roxysmum, your experience does sound pretty bad. I wonder what those CM's were thinking? Right now I'm trying to get an Ohana ADR and if I am able to secure a cancelation I hope they don't do something like that to me. Except for the chicken wings, I love those lol!
Thanks again!

Oops! Well if they are disgusted I won't care, but last time I asked to sit up front to avoid the heads in front of me. We did sit behind a gentleman the first time but he had no hair. It's the hair on the heads that gets to me lol! Oh well I'm sure I'll be fine :goodvibes.

They will probably put you in a "back seat" in a car occupied by another party, or in a front seat and then seat another party behind you. And I have to say I would NEVER ask the other party for permission to sit in the seat the restaurant has assigned me. If they didn't like me sitting in the same car, that's really too bad for them.

I had a nice lunch at Sci Fi all by myself, with lots of extra attention from my server. I was seated in the back seat of a car with a family of adults and teens.
