Sci - Fi Seating question

As long as you have an ADR, you will get a car. The tables in the back are for walk-ups. If you are concerned, you could mention it when you check-in at the podium, but that is how it was always explained to me. By the way, this is one our all time favs and a must do on every trip.

We've been told the same. Some ADRs do choose the tables.

I think the ambiance is the best Disney has to offer. It immersive theming. But, you do have to think cheesy Sci Fi trailers are fun, not mind the dark, and not mind sitting in those strange cars (they aren't really designed for comfort or chatting).

The food - well, they make milkshakes with alcohol in them, it covers up some sins with the food.

Can you not get burger and fries at Dinner time? We love the burgers, fries and shakes. We have ressies for 5:30 pm. Should I change them?

While burgers are not listed on the dinner menu, I have read on several other threads that you may still order one at dinner time.

We went last year. We were a walk-in and got one of the picnic tables in the back. The chili was YUMMY! I made an ADR for our next trip already. It's a fun place. I love the atmosphere and our waiter was hilarious.

If we're a party of 3, can we all sit together in the car? Or will one of us be alone behind the other two?

My husband and I ate here on a solo trip in '04. It was actually quite humorous because we were seated in the front row of a car and, shortly after we ordered, a group of 3 were seated behind us. They were young college students in their early 20s and one of the guys said "this is like a family road trip-mom and dad in the front and the kids in the back.". My husband and I were 31 at the time and never viewed ourselves as "old" until then! We chatted with our car-mates through lunch and had a great time. We thought it was fun and made lunch ADRs for our upcoming October trip. I believe our 4-year old son is going to love it!

DS son (11 years) would have had a fit! He loves the fries at Sci - Fi and I love the burgers!

I have to agree with Tink1969. We went there in September 2005 for free dining. It was horrible. We had ADRs. We waited 2 hours for our table. When we were finally seated we were placed in a car. At the time we were a family of 4. My DH sat with my DS (age 5) and I sat with my DS (age 2). I couldn't have a conversation my my DH the whole time. The food was horrible. The kids meals were supposed to come out on a frisbee. They came out in a mickey mouse plate like any other counter service restaurant. The kids were sad because they thought they were going to get a frisbee. It was loud and very uncomfortable. We had to take our desserts with us, because if we didn't we would have missed Fantasmic.

However, everybody's experience is different. You may completely love it there. I think if the circumstances were different (not free dining), then we would have had a great time.

Add us to list of loved it ! Even though I didn't like the shrimp pasta or the apple dessert I loved the milkshake ,the onionrings, and the dip. The others loved their steak!We wer a family of 5 and sat in a car . Found it a really cool place both temp wise and atmosphere!!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in WDW - we love the ambience and the vibe. I find the starry night, dark sky feel very relaxing, especially with a glow cube drink! The food is ok, but I go for the atmosphere, which is very unique. We have always enjoyed this restaurant!

I'd never go there or recommend this restaurant with kids that age. At five, neither of my kids could really handle a meal completely unattended - and no way at two. Plus the dark and the monster movies - it all adds up to a disaster. In fact, we are going this Fall with friends and my kids really want to go, but our friends have a seven year old with some minor special needs - and this restaurant was struck from the list - he can't handle the dark and the monster movies and needs more supervision when he eats than can be comfortably and enjoyably provided here.

However, when your kids are ten and seven, as opposed to five and two, they won't care nearly as much about the frisbees, they'll be able to sit in the front seat of the car while you and your husband enjoy the back seat, and it will be a really different experience.

(Mine were six and seven when we went, old enough to handle eating alone, they handle cheap monster movies well, and don't mind that level of dark).

(The two hour wait is horrible, this restaurant often runs late and that is a shame. We like earliest lunch seating here so that we get seated promptly. And the menu is different and better at lunch, when they stick to burgers and ruebens).

I felt I needed to chime in here. I don't know how a child would be completely unattended at this meal. If your child needs direct assistance, why wouldn't someone sit next to them? That is what we did when we first took our boys, then ages 2-1/2 & 4. They had no problems with the movie clips at all.

This year we returned, and our boys are now 6 & 7, now along with our almost 3-year-old daughter. The boys sat in the first seat, DH & DD in the 2nd, and I sat alone in the back. It is no big deal to help out the kids in front of you, should you need to. And, my daughter had no problems with the movie clips either. In fact, she was dancing along to the music they played and loved it!

Only you know how your child is with "scary" things. Heck, I think Snow White ride was scarier!

As you will read in my post, my children were not left unattended because I was sitting with one DS and my DH was sitting with other DS. Also my children are very content in any restaurant. It had nothing to do with the darkness or the loud monster movies. As far as the frisbee meal, at the time Sci-Fi advertized this with the kids meals. They should not advertise something and not have it. I am sure some kids of any age would be disappointed. Please remember your experience may be completely different than mine. And remember your opinion is your opinion. Please do not criticize mine.

There would be only three of us, me, DH and DD6, so I would not want one of us sitting alone behind the others (no fun!) Is the half car you were talking about one that would let you face each other at the table? That would be great!

I have eaten at a "car table" instead of a "car booth" both times I've been to Sci Fi. I liked it a lot better, I could actually talk to the people I was dining with.

Obviously, your kids aren't left unattended. But obviously its hard to enjoy a meal with your husband while you sit in the front seat with one child and he sits in the back with the other. The fact that kids this age CAN'T eat unattended is the problem, not that they must eat unattended. Most of us want to eat with our spouses.

I think the cars also make it difficult to help a child - angle is wrong.

Yes, it may be difficult, if you have young kids, having a conversation with your spouse/sig other. However, when you go to the Sci-Fi you are going for the "entertainment" and the atmosphere so you have to take that into affect. But, everyone has their own likes, dislikes.

Yes, you can get a burger at dinner -- even if it's not on the menu. We went for dinner (usually do lunch) last year and I was worried when I saw they didn't have burgers listed, but I asked and they said it was no problem. No need to change your ressie. Have a great time!

There are probably plenty of families that do fine here (and if you've eaten here before kids and its one of your favorites, you aren't asking me for recommendations anyway), but I try and recommend restaurants I'm pretty sure will be successful for the family. Sci Fi is one I recommend for atmosphere, but not unless any kids involved are older.

Of course this is your opinion. I do not agree with you. And I am not telling people to not go there. This forum is for everybody to share there experiences. Whether good or bad.
