I was looking at pictures of sci - fi on allearsnet and noticed that not everyone is seated in a "car". How likely is a party of five to be seated in the bench style car seats. The only reason we are eating there next trip is for the ambience and I wouldn't want to sit at a picnic table or regular table.

Well, first....the ambience? Uhuh....zero!
It's freezing inside, you can't see what you are eating, which might be a good thing because the food is awful and the movies are just plain stupid.
If you have kids, they won't enjoy it. If you are an adult, you won't enjoy it.
My opinion, I know....but that is how I feel. Not to mention the family in the car in front of us who were making the same comments!
You've been warned!!!!!

Thanks for the warning. I figure we get so much food on the dining plan for 12 nights that we will risk the bad meal because the kids want to eat here.

I think the ambience of the Sci Fi is fun. My husband likes the movies and so did my 7 year old niece. The food is okay - maybe even good depending on what you get. As for the car. Our first trip we were originally seated in a bench seat car but it was a bit snug for our liking, so we were moved to the picnic tables. They were okay, but not my favorite seat. So the next trip I requested a "half car" table which is a regular table with a car front and a car back. I thought this was more fun than the picnic table.

When we were there it appeared that ADR guests got the cars and others got the picnic tables, at least that's what I remember being told. Regardless, just show up a bit early and ask for what you want. Its just a request, but it can't hurt

When you arrive for your ADR, mention that you want to sit in a traditional car rather than a picnic table car. I'm sure your request can be met.

We really like Sci-Fi. We have gone 3 times. Now, we don't go for the food. We always go for lunch and get burgers which are good.

On our last trip we were a party of 5 and we were seated in a 3-row bench seat car. My boys (ages 6 & 7) sat up front, my daughter (age 2) & husband sat in the 2nd row, and I sat alone in the back. It was a bit difficult at first communicating with the kids about what they wanted to order but then everyone just sits back and enjoys the movie clips.

All my kids LOVED it! My daughter was even dancing to the corny music they had playing.

And, it was not freezing as another poster said. It was definitely cool because the a/c was on and the heat outside was 90+ degrees outside. In fact, every restaurant we went to were cool inside.

We enjoyed it !

The kids thought it was fun, a little hoky but quite fun ! I remembered those silly movies from when I was little... OMG:rotfl:

The 1st time we sat in a traditional car.. but it is kind of hard to communicate with everyone in your party.

The 2nd time we sat in the 1/2 car.. with the table & chairs, just like the other poster said. That was much nicer, cause you can talk to everyone there with you.

As far as the food, we didn't think it was bad. We ate everything.. and the sundaes are nice too.

Have fun !

We really enjoyed this place. The food was good and we all had a great time. Us , my parents and 4 kids. I would just ask at check-in which type of table you would like.

My whole family liked the Sci Fi.

We are a family of 5 and got seated in a car without requesting it last August during free dining, but I would request it at check in if your family really wants to sit in one. We thought the food was good too.

I have to agree that this place was a fun place for lunch. Burgers/shakes were good & our party of 8 (ages 10, 12, 12, 14, 33, 37, 48, & 57) all enjoyed the whole atmosphere. We weren't freezing, but it was nice to have a/c in the middle of a hot day! The movies really aren't bad and actually are pretty amusing! My mom even remembered some of them from when she was a kid! :rotfl:

Hi we were a party of five at Sci-fi in Jan. We had ADRs and when we checked in the hostess said would you like a table if one comes up before a car. We said no we would wait for a car. We waited only 5 minutes and were seated in the car. My twins sat up front, me and DD sat behind them and my sister in the back. I have to say my kids loved the experience. My DD12 kept saying,"Mom this is sooooo cool. My twins got drinks with the light up ice cubes and loved sitting up front. The shakes were yummy and burgers were great. The kids thought the movies were fun and our waiter told my twins they had a speeding ticket and gave them the bill. They thought he was so funny.

Our family of 5 ate at the SciFi for lunch in 12/05 after our youngest son spotted it and spontaneously suggested that we eat there. We had no expectations or bias. The service was good. Most in our group had Rueben sandwiches which were generous in portion. Cost was a little above average for the food but perhaps not for the overall experience. We would recommend it.

There would be only three of us, me, DH and DD6, so I would not want one of us sitting alone behind the others (no fun!) Is the half car you were talking about one that would let you face each other at the table? That would be great!

As long as you have an ADR, you will get a car. The tables in the back are for walk-ups. If you are concerned, you could mention it when you check-in at the podium, but that is how it was always explained to me. By the way, this is one our all time favs and a must do on every trip.

We asked for and got a table when I went with my DH and DS on the dining plan with ADR's in December...DH said he'd rather have a table as it is easier to talk with three than in the cute cars, so DS wouldn't be isolated (he was 17 so there was no worry of him being too young to sit alone, just that we wanted to easily include him in the conversation). And the table has a car trunk on one end and front on the other so it isn't just a table, it still has some character!

We love the place too...love the cheesy movie trailers and the food has been good everytime for us. Service is a bit slow though.

Those stupid movies are sici-fi, the food has always been good for us. We go 3X a year and sci-fi is always on our priority seating list. Yes it's chilly in there. But the cars food and movies are great. The milkshakes are incredible. And my kids love this place and have for years. The only one that likes it more is Dad. Sounds like a bad experience but this place deffinetly deserves a second try. Service is a bit slow.

When I made my ADR a few days ago for Sci Fi in Sept. I was told that there was a car for 4 available at 1:50. So, I'm assuming when they make ADRs they know what size cars, (or tables) are scheduled to be open.

We are planning on having a snack there using one of our Adult TS Credits and 1 Kids TS credit (if she's hungry then) and ordering a few more beverages (maybe another dessert!) just so we can enjoy the uniqueness of the restaurant. :wizard: My DM and I ate there (dessert only) about 9 years ago and my DD7 and DSis, who will be with us this trip, have never even set foot inside. I'm looking forward to the looks on their faces and I'm not going to tell them much about it.

Should be a blast (and I'm not just talking about the a/c!:rotfl2: )
