We (myself, DH & DD 2yo) have an ADR for Mama Melrose on our HS day, but i am wondering if my husband & daughter would get a bigger kick out of Sci-Fi. I have been to both and while I did not enjoy the food at Sci Fi years ago the atmosphere is cool. Has anyone eaten there with a toddler before? Will the three of us be able to fit in 1 row of the car? Was your toddler scared?

Thanks!

I took my daughter when she was 3 and she still talks about Sci-Fi (she is 9 now). My kids really enjoyed the atmosphere. I'm going again in November. I think the food is better at Mama Melrose but I enjoy the experience at Sci-Fi more.

Totally different experiences. We were at Sci Fi in April and the food was very good. We just ahd the burgers, but they were done well. Not the typical cold, flavorless disney burger.
We also ate t Moma Melrose. The food quality there is definitely higher than Sci Fi.

I think quality wise they are both on par, just two different experiences is how we view it. SCI-FI, the burgers, (gone is my Reuben) fried pickles, onion rings etc. And Mama Melrose, sit down, diner food, pot roast and fried chicken! And as far as pricing, I think it’s inline with the food and experience they provide. I’m not a milkshake, nor peanut butter person so that does doesn’t sway me towards MM. We enjoy both, every few trips!

I think you might be thinking of 50s Prime Time. Mama Melrose is the Italian restaurant.

To answer your question about fitting three people in one row, you can, but it’s a tight fit. My aunt, me, and my 10year old daughter shared a row. I have a stocky build, but my aunt is tiny and my DD was a typically sized 10year old girl. I didn’t feel squished, but we definitely didn’t have a lot of elbow room while eating.

I disagree with some of my fellow posters I think the food at Sci Fi is a lot better than Mama's. Mama Melrose is sort of a Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde restaurant. You might get very good food or you might get very bad food. We eat at Sci Fi every trip and for us it has been consistently good.

Our family prefers sci fi over MM for the food and fun atmosphere. Our girls loved sitting in the car and the movies. Our girls were older when we were there but being scared crossed my mind; they were 7ish maybe, it's been a while since the first time. Just know that the movie reels that play are old black and white clips from sci fi so they are very cheesy, not horror films, think of creature from the black lagoon type flicks. If anything, maybe the dim lighting might be more scary feeling but I will say we saw tons of toddlers and all looked like they were having a good time.

IMO, Sci Fi is a much more unique dining experience. Something you can only do at Disney. I think all 3 of you will fit in one row, so that would be my choice. We always opt for Sci Fi over Mama Melrose. We like the food better even though its basic fare, but also because there is so much Italian food to be found around WDW.

And you’re exactly right, I was in the middle of making my own ADR’s, multi tasking failure!

For many trips we only ate dinner at Sci Fi or 50's, this past May we tried MM and we were like "why did we wait sooo long?" It was really good. I loved the bread service, flat breads, salads and my DH and DS had full entrees they enjoyed. A quiet, respite on a hot day. That said I really like the atmosphere at Sci Fi and always order the turkey sand with cucumber salad. However... when my DS was a pre schooler he got spooked by the campy movie clips of the lagoon monster etc... It was odd, we really didn't expect that to happen but we had a fast meal and took turns taking him outside while the others ate. We have since been back and he loved it and laughs that he was once scared. Just a thought.

PS. Not a fan of 50's, food was good both times we ate there but had bad table locations and non-interactive servers. Nothing like watching everyone else have fun when you are shoved in a corner with a dud!
