OK disers, here's my problem-
I'd like to try the Sci Fi restaurant because it sounds like my kids would have fun, but the reviews on the food for the price you pay aren't that encouraging. On the other hand, there are better reviews for Mama Melrose's food but not for their service.

If you could only pick one of the 2 restaurants, which one would you pick?

TIA!:goodvibes

Personally I love Mama Melrose's food their seafood pasta is amazing! If your kids are younger though I would suggest the Sci Fi cafe the food is decent and the atmosphere is fun but I prefer the 50s Prime Time cafe over the Sci Fi cafe.

Your kids will love Sci FI and probably talk about eating in the cars for a long time after!

Sci-Fi. We go there every time we are at WDW. They have the best milkshakes and burgers!:thumbsup2 The cars you sit in are fun and so are the movie trailers they show. It keeps everyone entertained. The food isn't gourmet but to have the expereince of a drive-in it's wonderful!! Oh yeah, the onion rings are great, as well as the desserts!:)

I don't care for the food at either place. Sci-Fi is the best dining atmosphere. You can go to a restaurant like Mama Melrose at home, but how often do you get to dine under a starry sky in a car?

Sci Fi hands down! The atmosphere is so much better, it's truly like nothing you've ever experienced. Honestly, neither restaurant serves truly great cuisine (I've eaten at both numerous times) - but I enjoy the cheeseburger and the black and blue salad at Sci Fi.

We had terrible food and worse service at Mama Melrose, but the food at the Sci-Fi was just as bad (service was good though.)
If you are worried about getting quality food for your money, why not try the Sci-Fi and just have appetizers and milkshakes? The shakes were delicious, and you still get to have the experience of sitting in the cars watching the movies. This might be a good option on a day where you've had a big buffet breakfast and don't want a full lunch.
My DD talks about sitting in the cars to this day, and we ate there YEARS ago. So for that reason, I'm really glad we did it.

Do you still need to make ADRs if you're not having a full meal?

We've eaten at both and prefer Mama Melrose's. That said I do enjoy the atmosphere at Sci Fi but would only recommend going at lunch. Like a previous poster said the burgers and milkshakes are good. I prefer the lunch menu over dinner.

Sci-Fi for burgers, onion rings and milk shakes. Excellent food and fabulous atmosphere.
Mama Melrose was mediocre Italian food at best.

My kids and DH like Sci-Fi Diner because of the movie clips. The onion rings are good and DH likes the hamburger. DS got the beef and macaroni kids meal and said it was awful.

It's ok and I did have a great sandwich there in Sept. 08 but I'm tired of eating there.

We've never eaten at Mama Melrose because DD doesn't like italian. We are considering trying it in June 09.

I would pick Sci-Fi just for the kid factor. You can't really have a conversation there....but it has an awesome decor.
