We are going to MGM the first week of August and can't decide between 50's Prime Time or Sci-Fi. We have eaten at 50's before and thought it was pretty good but we are taking friends that have never eaten at either. We thought that with 4 kids Sci-Fi would be better to keep them occupied. Do they serve more then just hambugers? Chicken finger or anything?

I too have eaten at 50's PT but never Sci-fi. I really enjoyed 50's PT as well. I have hear mixed reviews about 50's PT some love it, some hate it. But honestly I have never heard anyone say they loved Sci-fi. I have heard the theming is nice but the food is yucky. We are going to eat at 50's PT again in September even though we have been there before. If it were me I wouldn't do Sci-fi, that's just me. ;)

I've been to both and will be returning to 50's PTC this trip. On the other hand I'm not sure I'll ever go back to Sci-Fi. I can get better food at most of the counter service places for a significantly lower price tag.

Thanks for your advice. Maybe I'll just play it safe and go with 50's Prime Time! Especially bringing friends that count on us for a good time! It was good last April.

Thanks again!

Did Sci-Fi last year for dinner and it was wonderful and my kids loved it. Going again this year.

Although I've read several complaints about it on these boards, I've been to the Sci-Fi Diner several times over the years, and the food has always been good to great. Maybe I'm just ordering the "wrong" things. :D
Back in September, I had the Blackened Catfish Sandwich, which was great, and my wife had a Reuben that she just raved about.

As with most restaurants at WDW, I think the best suggestion is to try it for yourself.

If you want to carry on a conversation with your friends at dinner, however, 50's Prime Time is probably the better option. At Sci-Fi, you would all be facing the same direction, which can make it hard to talk.

at Sci fi in the middle they do have tables so you face each other but the cars face the same direction. But it is noisy in Sci- Fi because of the movies playing.

We eat at Sci-Fi every time we visit Disney - it is definitely one of my favorite restaurants (the BBQ chicken sandwich is so yummy!).

Thank everyone! Maybe we will give Sci-Fi a try. We have a 5 yr.old and a 19 month old; our friends have a 6 year old and an 18 month old so maybe the movies and cars will keep them distracted so we can enjoy a meal without them getting bored and fussy! Does anyone know if they have good kid's meals like mac n' cheese, chicken fingers or hotdogs? Thanks for the input!

We went to both 50's PTC and Sci-Fi on our trip last year, I simply loved the 50's PTC! Food was good and the interaction was hilarious, the face of my 9 yr old daughter was priceless when Uncle Bob asked her why she never wrote him..:rotfl:

Sci-Fi was OK, the food was average but for us it was the experience in whole...the setting made everything great
Though if we go back this year, we won't order the lit up drinks haha, they're too pricey.

Overall both good, but for me 50's was "IT", totally funny "eat your beans or there won't be any dessert for you", my husband stoped "Uncle Bob" to tell him my daughter was chewing with her mouth open...haha Bob told him to mind his own business 'cause HE didn't see it..

It's a fun experience, well they actually both are!!

I had a hard time making this choice, just last week. We went for dinner and I had only seen the lunch menu. If you think lunch is expensive, you should see dinner...

Of course part of the sticker shock was that this was our first Disney meal of the trip and we hadn't adapted to the high prices yet! Our waiter kindly offered to let me order the cheeseburger from the lunch menu. This was the best tasting flame broiled burger I had the whole week. It was incredible. Also the oreo milkshakes are really, really good.

I personally like both but find sci fi to be more of a walk down memory lane for me with drive in movie theme, maybe stop in for snack or lunch but not dinnertime meal.
50's is great for lots of laughes and a good homestyle meal.

I'd say vist 50's and save sci fi for a dessert or snack place.

Sci-Fi... especially for lunch since it's cool and dark. Kids will LOVE it.

last trip we went to both places for lunch. the time we had at prime time was a blast. the waiter we had was tremendous. our table and the table nexct to us were laughing and having a great time all thru the meal. i had to stand in the corner because my son didnt finish his vegetables. the end of a pickle was the culprit. the food wasnt the greatest but not bad. but we had a great time. sci-fi was also a great time. great to see all of the old sci fi clips. my DS's couldnt believe i knew most of the movies. the food was good and the milkshakes were to die for. prices really arent to out of whack i felt. after all look at the local friendly's. almost 8 dollars for a burger so i feel prices arent really so crazy at WDW. good time at both but this trip we will be going only to sci- fi because the time we had at prime time the first time really cannot be duplicated
