We are heading to WDW soon and my 3 kids all want to eat at the Sci-Fi Restaraunt. I have read so much on it where people say the food is terrible. Can it really be that bad? I hate to waste a bunch of money on a bad meal, but the kids are the most excited about eating here than anywhere else. Has anyone eaten there that actually liked it? Let me know- thanks!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

I ate there only once, don't even remember the food it was that long ago. But I find it is an ideal place to go for a midafternoon snack. It's dark and cool in there. And they serve great milkshakes.

We ate lunch there last Dec and thought the food was OK if somewhat expensive. We had burgers, fries, salad, onion rings. Our food was as good or better than what you'd get at chain family restaurants such as Fridays, etc. I think the complaints have generally been related to the dinner menu.

I don't think any full-service restaurant at WDW consistently serves "bad" food. They may have bad nights, or some menu items that aren't as good, or fail to meet expectations of some diners.

As you may have noticed, you will find plenty of complaints here about nearly any WDW restaurant if you read enough reviews. Just remember that bad experiences are far more likely to be posted than good ones, and some people are very difficult to please. I suggest you try Sci-Fi for yourself. No, it's not THAT bad!

Thanks for the encouragement. Glad to hear it meets Fridays quality. We go there occasionally. We were planning on getting burgers anyway and that seems to be the best thing to order according to what I have read. I didnt think that a place could be that bad. I think I need to stay off the restaraunt site since there are such vast differences in what people say are good or bad and just decide for ourselves. We will go to Sci-Fi and hope for the best!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

We've eaten there twice for lunch, and haven't been disappointed. We've just ordered the burgers, fries, and milkshakes. I don't think you can go wrong with that. Most of the complaints I've read have been when something other than burgers was ordered. We like to go there, enjoy the cool darkness, and the seating is fun (in cars). If you don't mind paying $10 for a burger and fries, you'll love it! :D

We ate there once. The food was OK. Not good, not bad, just OK. The service was OK. Not good, not bad, just OK. The atmosphere was OK. Not good, not bad, just OK.

Because there are so many places that are GREAT, we haven't been back. It wasn't good. But it wasn't bad. It was just simply OK.

We love the Sci-fi! It's become almost a tradition for us, only missed once out of 5 times to Disney. We always have the kids involved in the planning, right down to our meals. My youngest was 3 when he chose the Sci-fi, and he still asks to eat there (he will be 13 in 2 days!). The food is just fine- we usually stick to salad and burgers, and of course the milkshakes. We are bringing some friends who have never been- I'm certain they will love it! Only 1 month to go! :D

My first meal there was chicken nachos and they were just okay. They don;t have that dish anymore. I have since gone and I think the hamburger is one of the best on Disney Property. Desserts have been good to. I have heard the milkshakes are great but have yet to try one. It is a fun place.

We ate at SciFi on our February trip. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and fries. It was actually quite good, just very overpriced. My sister had a special order salad (she has dietary restrictions) and said it was excellent. But again, pretty overpriced. I look at part of the cost as being for the atmosphere and entertainment value. It was fun to go and we're glad we did. :D

blessedby3, definetly give it a try, but just don't expect too much.
On our first visit ever to Disney, it also was the number one place that we wanted to try...the atmosphere just looked so cool! It just so happens that it fit into our schedule that we went there for lunch, not dinner. We all got cheeseburgers, fries, shakes and sodas. The shakes are very good....the burgers and fries greasy and good!
I think where a lot of the bad reviews come into play is when people get dinners....anything more complicated than a burger or sandwich. If you stick with good old fast-food style lunch, I think everyone will have a good time. And the atmosphere really is unique.
(By the way, we're going back for lunch on our upcoming trip this September. We've been "blessed by a third" since the last time we visited!)
Have fun!!!

We love Sci fi....We go every trip and have never had a bad meal. Keep in mind though, It is really hard to screw up a hot dog and fries and grilled cheese and fries. all my crew DD16, Ds8, DS2 and DS2, all love it. You go for the atmosphere its a fun place. I also will say I get one of my fave meals at Sci Fi. I get a Tomato salad a plate of sliced tomatoes drizzled with Balsamic dressing, Delicious very light after walking in the heat. I am not a big eater so it may not fill you. It is more than enough for me. Try it for lunch and stick to the basics. we go in May and I am getting my salad....

We (DH & I) ate there twice and it was always good. The burgers were great as were the milkshakes!!!!

He's a burger man so that's what he had - with a shake. I had a salad and it was fine. We like the atmosphere - brought back memories of teenage dating (we did many drive in movies in the good ole days ;) )

It's a fun place and your kids will like it. I think you can just get desserts too, but I don't remember them (I was on Weight Watchers so I blocked that out).

WE WENT TO SCI-FI LAST MAY FOR LUNCH. WE HAD THE BURGER & FRIES & MILKSHAKES..MILKSHAKES ARE "VERY" GOOD. ITS A GREAT PLACE TO GO & GET OUT OF THE SUN FOR A BIT & RELAX & DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT.

We've been to the Sci-Fi twice. Each time we enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was just okay.

I've got to agree with Ducklite, just OK. The food, service, even atmosphere was just OK. The best thing we had were the onion rings. I'm glad we tried it once, but with how inflated the prices are here I doubt we'll be returning.

we really enjoyed it, we all had burgers and they were very good and huge. The kids had a lot fun, and I really enjoyed just sitting with my husband and having the kids in front of us.....

DH and I ate at Sci-Fi earlier this month because we were really curious about it. We enjoyed it. We ordered hamburgers...just to be safe! DH said it's the best burger he's had at WDW. We really enjoyed watching all of the silly movie clips...some are really funny! I'd eat at Sci Fi again for a burger.

we weren't too sure about trying sci-fi either, after reading some of the reviews. but, i take the kids to the drive-in all the time, dh works afternoons, and we love it-so decided to try it on this last trip in february.

we had late lunch, just burgers and fries, and absolutely loved it!!! our food was fine, just as good as we'd gotten anywhere else, and the atmosphere was awesome!!! prices were a little high, but it's disney-we expect that!

give it a try-it's now a tradition for us and we'll be going back in november for a 'rerun'!

HI,
My DM, and 2 DS ate there for lunch last year. All four of us enjoyed the atmosphere and our meals. If I recall correctly I ate the grilled tuna, my DM and one DS ate the grilled steak sandwich and the other DS ate a monster cheeseburger. All servings were huge and the milkshakes were great!!
While the food is expensive aren't all the sit down restaurants expensive? We thought is was worth the cost.
Have a great trip! We will be there in mid April!
