Sci fi food - is it good?

I had the ribs earlier this month. They were very good. Also - I had this chocolate cake with peanut butter icing inside. It was served warm. I loved it.

We just ate there on December 9th.

The food is okay.....not the best, but definitely okay. I had the steak, and it was fine. My hubby had the wedge salad w/steak, and he really liked it. My MIL and BIL both had the ribs, and they said they were good. And our little boys (9 and 5) both had hamburgers and fries with milkshakes. They ate it up.

But like others have said, it's the atmosphere that's great here!

Our boys were totally occupied and quiet for the entire meal (which is a miracle itself), and therefore us adults could really enjoy our meals. I wish all restaurants played movies on a giant screen!

IMHO, the food is REALLY overpriced for what it is, and the movie loop is only about 25 minutes long. You don't actually get to see anything except the same 5 retro trailers over and over and over...

Save your table service credit and use it at World Showcase. Now THAT'S atmosphere!

We are going for the first time next month. My kids 5 and 3 I think will love it and My DH who is a milk shake lover will i'm sure like it. I'll post a review upon our return.

I ordered a chicken sandwich. The chicken was tasty but the rest of the meal was horrible. The atmosphere was fun but I will be skipping it in the future.

Princess Fontaine and I have eaten there many, many times and have enjoyed it every single time. I say give it a shot and make your own mind up.

That was what I had!! OMG it was so good! I could not finish the whole thing though.

We don't go here for the food - we get a fairly serviceable burger and a malt....but the kids at their current ages would rather eat here than have a character meal (where the food is also lousy). This is the restaurant at the top of their "where would you like to eat" list.

They then put up with two hours worth of Artist's Point or California Grill for Mom and Dad.....its a trade.

(I'm gluten free and very limited in what I can have at the SciFi - and their GF selections have been universally lousy - but they put Kaluha in their malts......)

We always enjoy it. I book a lunch there every trip
and have never had a problem. We always get sandwiches and burgers.
The kids love it too! Try it and see, if you don't like it, you never have to go back.

I guess we've been lucky. First time we ate there was August (2007), and we enjoyed the escape from the heat. It was quite chilly! We really felt like we were getting away from the heat and humidity. Our meals were delicious as well - DH had the tofu dish and declared it super! I had a sandwich that I could have shared with someone. Kids had nice kids' meals.

This past trip (December 2008) the kids and I had late lunch/early dinner there at 4:00. We were on the dining plan this time, which was nice. I got a steak, and it was cooked to perfection, and substituted onion rings for the side. It was a good meal, and way too much food! I was going to have fruit for dessert, but honestly couldn't eat another bite! My son had a burger, daughter I think had a burger as well. We all enjoyed it so much!

Funny, I had two other steaks this trip, one at Chefs de France that was sent back, inedible, and never did eat dinner that night. Other was room service from the Boardwalk Inn, and really did suck, but I was hungry so I ate it.

We have been pleasantly surprised with the Sci Fi twice now. I don't really feel the need to eat there again, only because the atmosphere is so cool, but we've done it now. But our food was good there!

I know people repeatedly say that you should eat at sci fi for the atmosphere and the milkshakes. But what about the food. I still haven't tried to make a lunch reservation there because the menu doesn't look that great to me. What can you tell me about the food?

This is one of many Disney restaurants focused on the theme-atmosphere. Food is secondary here along with providing consistency in food-service from one visit to the next. We have had good and poor experiences here...we visit it more for the kids than anything else. We normally stay with the basics - burger and shakes and sometimes they are both served cold.

I love the atmosphere but the food is so so to me. Stick to the basic burgers. I had ribs there once and they were pretty good. I enjoy the atmosphere much more than the food now so I won't go to Sci Fi unless i am with kids who requested to go or have never been. Much rather go elsewhere.

If you like eating an over-priced hamburger in the DARK!! well, I guess it's okay!
We've done it a couple times.... won't be going back. last year they stuck us in chairs by the kitchen door.... and I don't think the table was really a table..... it was more like a TV tray... maybe part of the "atmosphere"!!?? barely enough room for our plates.

We have eaten there twice (3 adults, 2 kids) and all of us have liked it. We have had Shrimp pasta, smoked turkey sandwich, Angus burger and ribs to name a few. Nothing to complain there. We were on the dining plan once and also like the appetizers and desserts.

My expectation of this place was to enjoy the atmophere and food would be ok, but they surprised me with good food.

We went there, not looking for gourmet food, but looking for edible food. We found neither.

We heeded all the warnings and stuck to simple food. The burgers were perhaps the grossest we have ever had in both of our lives. The ones at Cosmic Ray's and Pecos Bills were like filet mignon compared to these and that's not saying too much. The onion rings were tasteless and soggy. The milkshake basically tasted like chocolate milk. My dessert was some chocolate, peanut butter cake thing that I'm pretty sure was pre-packaged and perhaps out of a box like Little Debbie's (except not as good). The only edible item that we ate all of was the BLT soup. I felt ill afterward, having only had a few bites of each course.

I'm not exaggerating here. We ate at a lot of restaurants at WDW as we received free dining and every other one was fine. This one was simply disasterous. Add that to the absolute lousy service (Our server could have been audio-animatronic for all we know.) and we will not be returning here.

If you want to visit a drive-in, simply find a drive-in and go to it. There are still a few kicking around. While the atmosphere was undeniably neat, it is really not worth what you have to go through to see it.

We used to love Sci-Fi, but after this last trip we will not be going back. I think I must have had the same server as the previous poster.

On the rare occasion we saw her (twice to be exact), she was rude. I am not just talking bad day rude, I mean she was flat out mean! What made it upsetting was I had really talked this place up to my parents. It was their first trip, my Dads birthday etc...We had an 8:30 dinner ressie and we were the last ones to leave (around 10:30...not kidding!).

We got our food around 9:45 ice cold after asking another server when we would get our food. We didn't complain. Our drinks were never re-filled and by the end of the "meal" we were sharing the one drink left on the table. When our waitress finally did re-appear it was without apology that she handed us our check. When I told her we never got our drinks re-filled, nor did she come to take our dessert order, she looked at me and said "so what do you want a to go cup?" I said no I want our dessert to go and she said "We are closed now" As we were leaving another server brought us a couple of boxed up desserts and apologized. I guess she witnessed the whole thing. She said "our server had a bad day".

We still left a tip, didn't file a formal complaint etc...but we will not be going back because of her.

I'll go with everyone else on this and say to stick with the burgers, onion rings and shakes. I ordered the ribs last summer and I've never sent any food back at Disney except that. I asked for a burger instead and it was no problem. The ribs were just not to my liking and I have had my share of ribs. DD12 did not like her shrimp pasta entree very much. She picked the shrimp out and that was it. The milkshakes and onion rings were excellent though. And maybe b/c she's a pre-teen, but after a few minutes of the reels, she wasn't that fascinated anymore with the whole movie thing. I liked it for the nostalgia, but I think we'll try somewhere else next time. Hollywood Studios seems to be more limited on their TS restaurants however.

I didn't read through all the responses but everyone is going to have their own opinion. We went in April and although I did really enjoy the experience the food for me was less desirable. I had the Reuben sandwich and it wasn't bad but I was no where near as good as the one I can make at home. The onion rings were great. DH enjoyed what he had, although I can't remember what it was.

We'll probably go again if someone wants to but I'll get a burger the next time.

You probably just need to go and form your own opinion. No matter what people have said we have to decide for ourselves. People have raved about Chef Mickey's for dinner and we just didn't like it at all. I'll never do it again. Other places people don't like, we've really enjoyed. To each his own.

Well if you're looking for food that isn't over priced in WDW you're going to be looking for a long time!!! Plus it's not eating in the dark...you're supposed to be outside at night!!! How do you think it should be in there?
