Have heard that the food at Sci Fi is not the greatest but we think our kids would love the different atmosphere. Trying to decide if we should try it for lunch or dinner while at MGM. Any meals recommended? What time do they switch to the dinner menu? ::MickeyMo

I recommend lunch as it's the typical burgers and fries and is pretty decent. Plus the price is lower.

I think most places stop seating for lunch around 3pm and then open again around 4pm for dinner but I am not for sure. Dining can tell for sure if you give them a call.

I think your kids would LOVE the atmosphere - it's very very cool

Judging by our photo we love it. But--it's a lunch burger place, not a fine dining dinner experience. The atmoshpere is a must for us. Make sure you make PS or there's a good chance you won't get a car.

We are trying the Sci Fi for the first time on Sunday. Both my DDs ages 11 and 17 are really looking forward to it. This is our 17th trip to the world and we try 1 new resturant each time, most of the other meals are at our favorite places from previous trips.

Sci-Fi is one of my faves. The last two trips I've eaten there. I've enjoyed the ribs and the pasta. I always thought the food was pretty good.

Kids I think will enjoy the set-up, the movie screen and the light-up ice cubes which are perhaps can be appreciated more in this dark room than at other restaurants.

We've been to lunch. The food was good, not spectacular but the atmosphere is the best, very unique. My DH had the ribs & I had the catfish sandwich. Both were good. Next year we're taking our DS-3 & doing the dining plan so we'll be doing dinner & ordering a lot more food ! :rotfl:

I used to really not like this place but DH does so we kept going back...it is great for burgers and shakes and last time I had the chili which was pretty good too...you can't beat it for a cool afternoon getaway!

The burgers and shakes are very good, and you can order a burger for dinner even though it's not on the dinner menu. The grilled barbeque chicken sandwich is good, too.

We've always eaten here at lunch and the mid-day break from the heat in such a cool place is refreshing. However, this trip will be just me and my 4 year old so we're trying it for dinner on our first night. I've heard you can still order burgers for dinner even if they're not on the menu.

Whatever time you get, SciFi is an ADR must. This is a really popular restaurant and every time we've gone we've seen a lot of walk-ins being turned away.

Stay with the burgers, onion rings, fries and milkshake and you should be fine.

Sci-Fi Dine In is one of my favorites resturants at WDW. I'll confirm what others have said--even though the burger isn't on the dinner menu, you can still order one for dinner.

I just adore those cheesy b-movie trailers.

Has anyone used the disney dining plan there? I read somewhere else that they let them get the drink with the light up cubes in it on the plan. Has anyone else tried this. This will be our first time and I have read so much negative stuff. I am determined to go and have a great time anyway!
Oh, and there are 3 of us. If we get a car are we going to have to split up and someone sit in the back seat by them selves? :sad2:

Aimeedyan I love the shih tzu! I have one too.

We had the vacation lunch vouchers last year and had to pay for the light up drink...........which came in a glow in the dark cup which was nice.....so I imagine it would be extra with the dining plan as well. We are planning on it as an extra cost.

Thanks everyone. It sounds like we will just have to go there and experience it for ourselves! It sounds like a cool break from the heat. Now I have to hope we can get PS. :cool1:

We just got back for a 4 day trip to DW. We ate at Sci-Fi twice!. It's a must.
But go for lunch. It's cheaper with basically the same menu.
The onion rings are excellent.
I enjoyed the flat iron steak sandwich very much.
DD always gets a triple decker grilled cheese, even though its not on the menu anymore.

Have they changed the films at all? We haven't been in a couple years. Love the onion rings and the glowing ice!

We've been in the MGM park lots of times on two different trips and have not run into the SCIFI..... When you first walk in the MGM entrance, what is the direction to walk??? :confused3
Thanks alot.

Lunch or dinner - because they don't advertise this on the menus but all the lunch options (sandwiches, etc.) are all available at night as well. I always get a burger any time of day.

Even the not-so-great server (in general) cheerfully told us and allowed us to order whatever we wanted. They also have a lot of options they don't list for additions to salads, etc.

Good luck!

Between November '03 and March '05 they had not changed any of the trailers.

The SCI FI is our absolute FAVORITE PLACE to eat at Dis!!!! It's our only "must eat" place on every trip. The service, atmosphere & food are all great!

It's gets knock about on these boards...ALOT...However it is allways filled to capacity and you must have a AR for this during the summer months.

We like the unpopular Mama Melroses too!!!!!!
