Is MGM's Sci-Fi Drive-In Theatre a "fun" place to dine? I'm looking for somewhere tasty and unique that my 8 year old will appreciate.

Sci-Fi is my daughter's favorite-she's 12, but we've been going for years. The food is good, I can recommend the burgers and milk shakes. The kids love sitting in the old cars and the hokey movies. It's a fun,fun place!

My 5yr old DS loved the theming of this restaurant. He thought it was :cool1: !! We went in at dinner time and ordered cheeseburgers and fries.

This is definitely a fun place for an 8yo!!! :thumbsup2 It is a unique experience that you can only find in Disney. I wasn't as impressed with the food as I was with the atmosphere although the artichoke spinach dip was very good. It is a place that everyone should try at least once. :)

We eat at the Sci Fi at least every trip. My kids were 11 and 17 when we first ate here and they think it is really cool. We do prefer the lunch menu over the dinner menu. The cars are fun and the movie clips are something everyone gets a kick out of. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

I would agree with everyone else - fun place for kids (big and little!). Stick with the basics for food - burgers, fries, shakes. Also, if you want a car, make sure to have an ADR. We did not have ADRs in January, but were able to get a "flying saucer" (round table in the back). My daughter (6 years old), still liked it, but asked if we could get a car the next time. So- I am planning for January 07 already! :)

We've eaten there multiple times and we never get tired of this restaurant. We usually get the simple fair, sandwiches, bbq chicken sandwich, burgers, but in Dec. we branched out and tried their ribs. They were VERY good. I've never had a bad experience. The atmosphere will be so much fun for your 8yr old. Get the glow cubes for him/her. They're a hoot.

We surprised our DS9 with lunch there last year. (I had told him it was booked the whole time we were planning. It was the one place he really wanted to eat.)

I think the food is actually pretty good--and sitting in the cars to eat is really fun for everybody! We still have our glow in the dark plastic cup--

PS--Its nice and cool in there during warmer months!

We really enjoyed SciFi and I've always been a 50s PT fan, but we wanted try something new. I thought the burgers and fries were good, and we thought it was very relaxing - its dark and cool and the movies playing on the big screen keep most people from being loud - most talk in a whisper-like tone so it was a very nice break from the August crowds at MGM.

Just echoing what's already been said - we love the Sci-Fi! It's my DH's absolute favorite (and my Dad's, too, come to think of it! Must be a man thing! lol!) We've never had anything bad there, although we stick to the basics - burgers, fries, salads, etc. The only problem I have with Sci-Fi is that I always want to just collapse for a good long nap when we leave! After being in the air-conditioned dark for around an hour (nevermind stuffing my face, too!), the last thing I feel like doing when we leave is touring the park! It's a GREAT place to relax and wind-down a little bit....

Very good for an 8 yo. Great atmosphere, the cars are alot of fun! The movie that plays is very corny but funny to watch, and food is just good, "normal" American food (Cheeseburgers, Ribs, ect). We already booked this for lunch in August. Definetly do it and have fun! :thumbsup2

My family really enjoyed Sci Fi. We did this as our first TS on the day that we arrived and we thought it was a great place to start off our vacation. We had a party of 8 and everyone had something different. I don't recall everything (it was last Dec) but I do remember that my ds's 9 and 11 sat in the front of the car and loved the theming. Great place for kids and again I would echo others, stick with the basics and go for the fun. You won't regret it. In Sept when we go again this will be our first TS again...ahhhh a Disney tradition is born!

Perfect for a 8 yr old!! My kids love it there and it is the first place they ask about going to as soon as we arrive!

We wouldn't make a trip to mgm without having advanced dining reservations for the sci fi!!! It is one of our favorite spots to eat and the atmosphere is awesome. Make sure you order the burgers, onions rings and chocolate shakes. The best you will ever eat!!! My kids were so surprised to have their meals on a glow in the dark frisbee that they got to take home, and of course the glow in the dark sci fi cups with the colored flashing ice cube, in the color of their choice! Since it is a little dark in there the cups look cool!

We really liked it. I think its a cool place for any age. I dont know if an 8 year old would know some of the cartoons/short clips that play on the movie screen cause as a 30 year old I didnt but all in all it has some good burgers, great shakes, yummy onion rings and the atmosphere is great... Sitting in a car eating food... I thought it was very cool! :)

We did it on our last trip even though we read such negative stuff about it. We loved it     :lovestruc big thumbs up for it :thumbsup2

It is likely that an 8 year old boy will enjoy it. The film does loop in about 35 minutes or so, but with the attention span of an 8 year old, they'll probably enjoy it just as much the second time through.

He/she will really enjoy it. We did it twice our last trip and..don´t forget onion rings...

Venga,salu2.

Do you need to book in advance or is this walk in?

Thank you
