We ate there for the first time in July and loved it! Answers will probably be mixed on this one though so be prepared. It seems to be either a love it or hate it place. I think your 3 yr old will really like the theme of the resturant, you sit in cars like at a drive-in and there's a large movie screen in front of you showing old black and white sci-fi flicks (none too scary for kids). The waiters are very friendly and the food, we thought, was very good. My dd ordered a shake instead of her drink and the waiter brought her a bottled water also and told her to hang onto it and refill it in the parks. We were too full for deserts so we ordered shakes to go in place of them. We will definitley go back. Enjoy!!
ate here for the first time last year with DD (16yo) and enjoyed it. the sammiches were good and the ambience very enjoyable. totally agree with the PP, this is one of those love it or hate it joints. we didn't go in expecting haute cuisine or even higher end fast food; it IS WDW park food.
Sci-Fi is a must do on each of our trips, sometimes more than once. Our kids (4 & 8) love it and have since they were toddlers. The food is good (DH loves their chili and burger and I love their Italian Grilled Chicken Sandwich and their Smoked Turkey sandwich), the service has always been good and the atmosphere is great.
We've eaten here tons of times and it's always been the same. Mediocre food, good milkshakes, great and unique atmosphere that makes up for the mediocre food.

Usually for us we visit a 2TS restaurant on the dining plan during our stay and then when we are in DHS we usually pay oop at Sci-Fi since we can't stand any of the CS restaurants in this park (especially ABC).
We really enjoy SCI-FI - the food and theme. We like sitting in the cars, but like your car, everyone will face frontwards. If you do not like this, ask for a table so that all can sit in chairs.
Personally, my DH and I always make an ADR at Sci-Fi. We just enjoy the atmosphere ... we've never had a bad meal there either. We have had some great servers too, which makes it all that much more fun. Enjoy!
I love the Sci-Fi. Hubby and I have only been once but it was a great experience. Our server was attentive and the ambience was quite fun. I know a lot of people find the food not that great, but we got the ... I think they're called black and bleu salads? They were wedge salads with beef tenderloin and they were, frankly, the best thing we ate on our last trip. Absolutely fabulous.
IMHO, the atmosphere is worth checking out... once. The food and menu are really lacking which is why my girlfriend and I wont be returning. We are glad we tried it, however, it was a let down.
We loved it. The kids didn't love the atmosphere as much as I thought they would though. I thought the food was awesome, the shakes were great and the desserts were super yummy.

I totally agree. My sister and I ate there. We loved the atmosphere and milkshakes, but did not care for the food at all. We liked the food at 50's primetime much more. Glad we did it, but will not make a ressie there again.
We go every visit, going twice this year at the request of my ds12 & my dh. Had a fantastic server last year & really enjoy the atmosphere. As for the food, we are burgers & fries people & there really good. Also, the chocolate milkshake are wonderful.
