Sci Fi diner seating uncomfortable for back or neck issue?

I really want to take my kids to Sci Fi. I loved it when I was younger, but even then when I had less physical problems (But still many) I recall being uncomfortable for my meal in the seat. If you have back or neck or bone issues, how do you fare at Sci Fi? And if you ask for a table, I assume it's all the case that you will be sideways to the screen? That seems like it would really be annoying to not be facing it, and for me it would bother my neck so I would not be able to watch while sideways. Yet I really want to take my children. Is there some kind of seating alternative I may be missing? How did it work out for you? Just trying to plan ahead to make it all work out.

What would be ideal is a car with a bench style seat facing the screen and 2 chairs behind the bench style, with a back that is not attached. Do they happen to have any of those?

I don’t know if there would be any way you could arrange the chairs in one of the 6 chair cars to work.

Do you remember what was uncomfortable about the bench seats? Could you bring a portable or inflatable seat cushion?

I am not sure as it was over 20 years ago. It's probably because bench seats are so upright they kill my back, then neck. It could also be that I was trapped in the inner seat, with someone much larger than me next to me (family member) so that added to my discomfort. Also I just find I can't shift my body the way I need to when on a bench vs a stand alone chair. Also if the table is too close to me, that would throw me off (I am average weight, it's not a size issue). And sitting next to the wall of the car on the inside adds to the discomfort and pain.

It's possible I could be somewhat ok if I sat on the outer seat of the bench, so that my arms are not constricted and I can get up if I need to. I would probably have to sit in it to see how I feel but I hate choosing that option and then being uncomfortable and ruining my family's meal. But the tables sideways to the screen just seems less than ideal also. But I have to make a choice, I know my children would love this and I also loved it back then (but I do fully recall being uncomfortable).

If anything we would need one of the cars with a 4 seater table, I see them in the back. My family could turn their heads to watch, I just won't be able to watch at all as I cannot turn my neck sideways to watch something prolonged, etc.

I was thinking the 6 seat even though you have only 4 might allow you to remove a chair on one side and then turn one for part of the time to watch.

I appreciate the thought. I doubt they would give us a table for 6 if we are 4. Either way I would have to turn, which would be so awkward while eating. I so love this place, just wish it was a bit more comfortable because I love everything about it otherwise.

In the back are picnic style tables, and I'm sure another chair could be added facing the wall (the pink chair in the photo below faces the screen). I'm not sure if that would work. Someone would possibly have their back to the screen if they put another chair facing the wall or turn the chair around to see the screen maybe while waiting for food and then turn it back around to eat.

Alternately, I wouldn't count on them not seating you at a table for 6 if you're only 4 if you request that seating arrangement. In that case you would need the table with the chairs on the sides and that does mean you're not facing the screen but you could turn the chair to see the screen as in the first scenario.

Thank you for this, I appreciate the thoughts on helping me plan this out. I guess I could try to ask for 6 and turn our chairs.

I would just sit in that spot between the tables, personally. At checkin tell them what you need with the non-in-car seating. Let them help you. That in-car seating looks irritating, anyway, since you can't really have conversations with more than the people exactly next to you.

I like a nice upright seat so find the benches comfortable. I do however have problems looking up so sitting close to the screen has been difficult. I haven’t asked to be seated further back but might do for next time.

This also is difficult for me. Ugh. Sci Fi probably isn't a good idea for me but I just want my kids to experience it so much.
