Curious if we make a reservation for three people, if one of those people will be sitting alone? Along with myself, party includes husband and 3 year old. Is there enough room for two adults and a child on one seat of the car?

I guess it depends on how big the people are. You could probably do it with a 3 year old - but definitely not 3 adults.

When DD17, her friend and I went in 2012, yes, I sat in the back by myself, but it wasn't that difficult to hold a conversation. You're still fairly close together, in my opinion.

As other have said, it's possible to get two average sized adults plus a small child into one bench, but I think most groups of three end up being split into two rows. In terms of conversation, it depends on the group. The person in the front row, will probably have to turn around, or turn part way to easily talk with the row behind them. This is okay before the food arrives, but after that, it's tough to turn and eat, so I think that's when the person in the solo row tends to be the most "alone".

If you Google "Sci Fi Dine-In Car Table" and look at the images, you can get a sense of the size of the benches.

When it was my DH, my DS who was 14 and me, they put us at one of the tables in the back, the "picnic" area. I think my DS was disappointed not to have a car, but next time I'll try to get my older DS to come so we have an even number and can get a car.

I agree with PP in that it's not as awkward as one might think to be in the row behind your family. The table part of the booth that you'd have to lean over to talk is pretty narrow, so you're in close proximity.

When my mom & stepdad went with me and we had lunch at Sci-Fi, this is how they sat us, too. (Granted, we were a walk-up party, no ADR.) At first I was disappointed not to have a car, but it was nice to be able to all sit together, and we also could see our food better since there's more lighting back there near the entry to the kitchen.

Picnic tables are used primarily for walk-ups. We have eaten there many many times with all different numbers of people. The only time we were put at the picnic tables was our only time we went and did walk-up. That said I would never want to sit three to a row, I rather sit alone than sit that tight.

I think you would be fine with 2 adults and a 3 year old in one seat. When we went, it was 2 adults and a 10 year old, and I sat behind exH and DD. DD would have loved that setup when she was 3, because I wouldn't have gotten on to her for constantly standing up to look at the people behind her. LOL

The picnic tables in the back are usually for walk ups or if someone requests to be seated there or if you had a res perhaps they were extremely busy/running far behind schedule when you went. We're a party of 3 and with a reservation we've always been seated in a car so I don't think it's based on whether you're an odd or even numbered party.

I agree with the others who said the conversing with each other in two different rows is not a problem. Especially if it's two parents with one child. More than likely, the back or front seat would be filled with a party of two who would just be on their own so the conversation between the family would be their own. We've eaten at Sci Fi many times, once with six adults in one car and no one had a problem with talking to each other and the other members of the party. And no, we didn't yell or anything, we just talked in a normal tone.

We are a family of three and have been there several times. Could you sit in one row yes but it would be really really tight. My daughter sat in front of us and loved being by herself, she was 5. They have a coloring page so she did that and watched the movies. I would take both rows and then if you want to sit in one row you have the option rather then if you ask for one row then you're stuck and want more room.
