If I don't want to pay $16 for a burger can we still go there just to check it out and have desert? also do I really need reservations? IS it much more than a steak-n-shake or windsteads? i mean I have I love lucy reruns on tv everyday and I turn away from them everyday... Do tell is it a cool atmosphere?

The milkshakes are great! They even have alcoholic ones!

Anyways, YES, make a reservation (ADR). You still may have to wait a bit.

The "show" lasts about 45 minutes and is a mash up of old Sci Fi clips and trailers of B movies. It's cool inside too!

Yes, you do need reservations. We booked at 180 days out and have had problems getting this reservation for lunch during the summer. We love the food and the atmosphere. Definitely worth checking out.

YES - YES - YES - get an ADR - very unique place -well worth the time to hang out - two could share a burger or ruben (my fav:) )....sittiing in the cars, in the dark, cool, air condititoning, great break from the park day or night) one of our must dos......

Sci Fi is a very unique experience and I highly recommend it at least once. You can just get a milkshake but you could, like a PP suggested, split the burger or get an appetizer. I always view the prices at Sci Fi to be fine since you do get the show on the screen and the atmosphere of the place.

And yes, you definitely need a reservation.

ok so i'll go but why do so many people make reservations for something with such bad reviews? several say it's dark so you can't see what your eating.. now that doesn't sound right to me... so can i make a reservation... go have a milkshake..then leave and later eat somewhere with better reviews? maybe skip the low review food that way but catch the atmosphere...

I suppose if you make a reservation, you can choose to eat whatever you'd like. Be it a burger and fries or just a milkshake. With that said, I think you'll find you may love a place with all those "bad" reviews. Sci Fi is my husband's favorite place to eat in all of WDW. Mostly because of atmosphere, but the food certainly is not bad. Last time I had an absolutely delicious turkey sandwich with sweet potato fries. :flower3:

We never miss Sci Fi. I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews. It's a burger and shakes place. Just don't go expecting steaks or fancy food. It's fun!!! We always make a reservation for around 3 if we are at HS in the daytime. It's a great place to cool off. As for it being dark, it has to be. You eat by the "dashboard" lights of your car. It feels like you are really outside at the drive in. The waiters and waitresses make it fun. Last time my son got a Sci Fi driver's license. We also love the glow in the dark cups with the sci fi logo. Ask about them if don't see them on the menu. We use them all the time at home. Definitely make a reservation. As we were waiting for our table last time, DD and I counted ELEVEN people that walked in asking for a table in about 10 minutes time.

Just noticed that you are from KC. We are also from Missouri. And also headed back to Disney at the same time as you! Have fun!

I've seen bad reviews for just about every restaurant in WDW. Sci-Fi was great for us. The food was good and the experience was even better. We are going back again in June.

:thumbsup2

Every restaurant and resort will have people that won't like them and will give bad reviews...in fact you are going to read more of the bad reviews than good ones. With that said, the first time we ate at Sci-Fi DH and I did not care for the meals that we got, we liked the atmosphere but not the food, well when we went in January the girls really wanted to go back so I made another ADR. This time we all had the cheeseburgers and milkshakes and we all LOVED them. When making ADRs for our next trip in August, the first thing DH said was that we are definitely going back :goodvibes .

I just ate there two weeks ago and the food and service were really good. The atmosphere is very neat, unique. We were there on a hot day and really appreciated cooling off and surprisingly it was quiet inside. I think people watch the clips and chat more softly than normal. It is like an attraction with food sort of.

I agree you could easily each get a milkshake and share something. I had the turkey sand on multigrain bread with avacado mayo, it was huge. DH had a mushroom burger, also big. We both got the cucumber salad and liked it (felt too hot to eat fries). We didn't do shakes, I had ice tea and DH had a vanilla coke that was yummy.

I saw in front of us a pasta dish and a steak, hmmm... maybe the negative reviews come from trying to order the more dinner like entrees. Stick with burgers and sandwiches.

All restaurants at WDW get bad reviews, even the holy grails like Le Cellier.

In your example some people like to see their food. Some don't like sea food so all of the places that pretty much only server seafood are on the bottom of their list.

I saw a survey here of the good and bad and and some places were on both.

As for the ADR, if you want a seat during a busy time you need ad ADR.

When paying out of pocket...Sci-fi (at lunch time) is a great option. we all enjoyed our meal...I mean, how hard is it to screw up a sandwich? Dh had a burger and it wasn't the best burger but he didn't regret it either. The one thing I have learned...our first trip, we picked places that WE wanted to eat at by looking at the menus and had such wonderful experiences. Then we got caught up in all the reviews and the "must eat at" restaurants - that's where the disappointment sets in - someone raves that a certain restaurant has the best steak they've ever eaten and now no one can get a reservation and when you do...you're flying high until, it's not quite all that you were expecting, in quality or $. Lesson learned? We will not make ADR's based on reviews ever again but instead, by looking at the menus. My kids enjoyed Sci-fi and that is $ well spent!

Yes you still need an ADR. You certainly can just order shakes (which are great) or dessert. As pp's have indicated, you may still have to wait so I recommend trying to go at an 'off' time so your ADR wait will hopefully not be too bad.

It's a fun dark place to be entertained by really bad B movie clips!:rotfl2:

Ok, why do you need an ADR if so many people say it's not a great place??? Because many, many more people love it there!!! I have seen people able to just walkup and be seated...but it was after a lengthy wait.
I am one of those who had a less than stellar first experience there. My burger was badly overdone, my dd's hot dog tasted odd (according to her), it was dark, and there were two women in front of us who kept swishing their hair in my area. But, my dd also started getting sick about an hour later...and it had nothing whatsoever to do with the food. She had a bug....super high temp, aches, and headache for the next two days!!!! That more than likely colored our entire perspective on the restaurant.

I've been back about 4 times now and had good experiences each time. I just wouldn't bother just having a milkshake in order to 'get the atmosphere'...I would just eat there. You could eat lunch prior to that, and then just have dessert at Sci-Fi. But you should still make an ADR.

Is all of the seating in cars? Or should I ask for that when I check in? I wouldn't want a "normal" table here, right???

My kids were bored out of their minds. The movies are black and white and outdated to the new generation. The food was okay IMHO.
The milkshakes were good and the service was good too.

We won't go back. They would be better off running a disney movie. That would be just as cool.

You can sit in a car or at a table, but why would you want to sit at a table?LOL:confused3
For us this restaurant is tradition, we always go for lunch, get the burgers and the onion rings and come out happy and much cooler!!

We are the same as you its our first full day tradition. DH says it would not be the same if we did not go there for lunch.

Food always been good and the service both fast and friendly.

I have had the burgers several times and I have also had the pasta with chicken rather than shirmp and both were huge portions and lovely. DH again burgers and he had the steak which was cooked to his liking and more than large enough.

We love the adult milkshakes and we also order cherry cokes as they make them properly as opposed to the pre made.

We love the clips and just the fun idea of eating in the cars. But we are fans of the 50's style cars and the movies are funny.

On a side note we watched the blob in full the other night and both of us said it was not the same as seeing the clip in the Sci Fi :rotfl2:

I love the concept of this restaurant, but is it weird to be eating a meal together and looking at the backs of your companions' heads?

Or is it just that it's not a regular social sharing-a-meal-together type of atmosphere - more of a movie with food?
